Gso-7/7

When are these 7/7s going to ship?

Don't you have to finish the GSO-4.7, GSO-4.7 Cru Forge V, GSO-2.7, GSO-4.1 before you start the GSO 7/7? As far as I know, the GSO-2.7 and GSO-4.1 haven't even started shipping yet, and the GSO-4.7 continues to drag on and on. However, in your e-mail about the 7/7 you state that there is a "Limited Amount Available Now!" You then go on to say these 7/7s will ship at some point in the future, after "a few months to get the preorders and these presale orders finished, sharpened, and shipped."

I get that this is a “presale.” However, to me, "Available Now!" means, well, NOW. To me, “a few months” means that these will ship before the end of 2016, but I cannot imagine a scenario where even that will happen.

Having shipping dates "delayed" due to unforeseen events is one thing, and forgivable. However, the way S!K is representing the availability of the 7/7s is at best VERY confusing, and at worst deceptive. Given all the confusion and disappointment surrounding shipping dates, S!K should have learned their lesson. Unfortunately, it appears that they have not.

This is exactly what I was thinking when I saw the presale. I can't imagine these ship out in the next "couple" months. Has anyone heard what has delayed the 4.7 so many months?
I think it would be a good move for Survive to give a realistic explanation of the current production and wait times. My fear is a mass group asking for refunds which, depending on Survives cash flow situation, could be a problem.

I was tempted to pick up a Gso 7/7 but I'm still waiting on my 4.7,6 and 12. While I don't mind waiting, I need to see some of those models in hand before I make any further purchases. Hope that I'm wrong but I'd be surprised to see the 7's roll out in 2016.

Deja Vu... I asked about this a month ago..

Ellie's Response...

So from here response it sounded like the 7/7 "may" START rolling out in late fall~winter... but then as you know the 4.7 has "been rolling out" for almost a year.. so I just assume now that you would be looking well into next year to get the 7/7. I do notice a trend that the sales pitch before the sale seems to be quite a bit more optimistic on timing then later down the road. But the pre-order will come before the presale which is good. I just would take the "a few months" on the presale quote with a grain of salt.... kind of like I do when my 400lb uncle tells me he just want's a small "taste"

I think you're right about making assumptions about "a few months". I've found it's best to plan for S!K preorder or presales much like Busse orders, place them and forget about them till they show up. I'm much more jumped up for my S!K 10 and 12 than I am for a couple Busse OP2Weeks orders. The recent mentioning of a new person getting trained to help Guy in the shop is very heartening, just like the addition of Ms. Jordyn in the customer service end of things. I don't envy whoever has to step into Guy's shoes though.

Excellent point. My feelings as well.

I hate to admit it, but the thought I first had when I saw the pre-sale announcement was from the cynic in me, and it said, "Hmmm… must be needing a little infusion of cash, and these are close enough that they might do the trick."

It's bad when you've waited so long, and read through so many delays, that the first thought when a pre-sale goes up isn't excitement, but suspicion. And having a feeling of guilt because you talked a friend into ordering the "In Stock" CruV 4.7 because they'll "ship out next month," when actually, if they're in stock, shouldn't they be shipping out within a couple of weeks? Or… like most places, a couple of days?

I think I'm going to have to quit coming over to this forum. And maybe even unsubscribe from the newsletter. Just email me when you ship out my knives. Even though I'm overjoyed with my CruV 4.7, this thread highlights that I haven't gotten my 3V 4.7, still, from that pre-sale in, I believe, Dec 2015. Nor my 4.1 pre-order from before that. But here's a thread to whip us into a frenzy over impending 7/7 releases, because now they're on pre-sale.

Here's a question: what exactly is the difference between a pre-order and a pre-sale? Pre-orders are just to get the capital to order a batch of knives? Then, once the batch is ordered and the pre-orders are closed, a window opens briefly to add "presales" for firsts? Then when the stock comes and the state of dis-repair of the blanks becomes apparent, they open orders for seconds? Then as those are cleaned and fixed and shipped, and it becomes apparent there are more seconds cleaned and fixed than orders, NOW the in stock and ready to ship seconds and UB's are put up for immediate shipping (I think those are the only ones I've ever seen go out in less than 4 weeks). Then the dedicated work at getting pre-order firsts, and pre-sale firsts, out the door?

I'm starting to feel really bad that I talked Randy into ordering that CruV 4.7, as I'm betting he is going to be waiting longer than I thought.

Saw the 7/7 email and thought about it for a split second, but decided to pass. Already have close to $1k worth of S!K ordered and paid for and haven't seen one yet.

Dissatisfaction may be triggered by differing interpretations of "few." One or two? Four to six? Ten to twelve?

I'm reminded of one of the brilliant split-screen scenes in Annie Hall:

Two therapists ask their respective clients, "How often do you have sex?"

"Constantly," says the woman, "about three times a week."

"Hardly ever," says the man, "about three times a week."

You guys need to cut S!K some slack. Don't you know, it takes a long time to sharpen a knife.

Keep the discussion civil and on topic. Trolling a manufacture's forum with snarky comments meant to stir the pot will not fly.

In all honesty,
The 7/7 "presale" doesn't strike me as Odd or unfair and something I expect to see a lot more of. As some people decide they can't wait for a Year+ wait and cancel, that now frees up X amount of orders that the steel was already purchased for and been cut. So The 7/7 "presales" are probably just those refunded prepurchases that have been freed up and SK! is just putting them back on the market... And because they put them at the back of the line (after the preorders).. it seems logical and reasonable to me. Now, the lead-time optimism that's a different discussion I will leave for others.

So I've been following the Survive drama across many different posts as I have been thinking about jumping in, but here's my concern. I put a lot of stock in buying from companies that shows care for their customers. I have seen Ellie's well written responses and I believe they are honest and heartfelt. That being said I followed her link to the presale page and found this:

Currently available for presale!* The blades are in our workshop starting to get finished.* Materials are still being finished up, so it will take a few months for these to be delivered.* Be sure to keep an eye on ourProduction Schedule*page and sign up for ourNewsletter*to know when Preorders and Presale orders are shipping out.

Okay, now this is suggesting a few months. Few is around 5. As behind as they seem to be they are saying months. Now if I was not here in the forums and saw this I would take it as this is a product that will ship soon. We know that is not the case. They know also. Why not be more forthcoming and realistic with their marketing? I understand why so many are frustrated, and it gives me pause in my consideration of their product.

Do you have proof? This seems like quite a conclusion to jump to. I know you're a fan of asking for refunds, but that doesn't make the presale a result of cancelled orders. You remember there were presales for other models, right?

I think you're pretty much right on. From what I've seen the intent is there and that is good enough for some people. Looking at the facts:

Blades are in the shop
Blades will need to be sharpened and finished
There's still a wait on some materials
Several models need to go out ahead of the 7/7's

If you missed out on the starter campaign and don't want to mess around with Monday sales AND are patient and trust SURVIVE! with your money, then this sale is for you.

If you need a new knife for this year's hunting season or would rather wait to see how things turn out with other knife models that are in the shop, then this probably isn't for you.

This post doesn't really state a staring point for the "few months". Are we talking a few months from now? A few months after materials are finished and in the shop? A few months after materials are finished and all the 4.7's, 4.1's and 2.7's have been shipped? There is a huge timing difference in each of the possible scenarios.

I want nothing but the best for this company. I just think it's fair for people to have at least some sort of reasonable estimate for shipping. The default referral to the production page is fine; however, in this case it ambiguous and doesn't make the grade.

Sorry, but it doesn't state that there are several models that need to go out ahead of the 7/7's.

I'd guess that one. Think worst case scenario then add a bit.

To some, I am losing credibility because I'm nearly as optimistic as the SURVIVE! team is, but customers really need to know what they're signing up for.

I worded my post sloppily..
I meant to and should have said, I think it's perfectly logical and reasonable to believe SOME of the presales could be canceled preorders.
