Nice enough little place, with a rather odd item in the middle of the main street, known by locals as 'The Potted-Meat Stick'!
Interesting, even out of focus as background. Was it a clock tower, did it have a plaque, or is it just for head scratching?

It was originally a drinking fountain, erected in 1862, by Baron Frances Amphlett of Somerset, (in the south of England), in memory of his deceased mother-in-law. What the poor people of Baildon did to deserve having it planted in the middle of their town remains to be seen. It has been moved more than once, and was even 'lost' for twenty years, being found in pieces in another part of the district. A shame it wasn't left there, it's a eyesore!

I'm just glad it wasn't exported! There are a few parts of the past that should be let go (although I realize that once something is declared historical on your side, it is treated as if it was sacred).

It could be a plot by southern aristocracy to humiliate a humble northern town! These sort of memorials usually end up transported to an obscure corner of a municipal park or something. 'The Potted-Meat Stick', which doesn't seem to be regarded particularly fondly in Baildon, would probably be better broken up for paving stones! o_O :D

Thanks you guys! :D Maybe I got just a little carried away on that one! ;)

Not at all Ron! Spectacular! l) :D

Another pic from my travels today :)

Excellent mug shot!

Where did you find the mug?

Thanks! :D I was passing a shop in Leeds when I saw a young woman putting them in the window. I didn't really need another mug, but it gave me a good laugh, and I thought it might make folk here laugh too - particularly Donn! :D On the inside, it says, "Is it a whippet, is it a flat-cap..."! :D

I reckon "thy sen" should be "thissen" though! :D

Edit - Available on the bay too ;)

I have to do something different with the lights this year. The new windows don't leave room for the standard wreathes under the blinds.
Winter starts Tuesday night here. Just a couple more highs in the 40s.
