Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks Buddy! :) Hope your day is going well so far Jack! :)

Not too bad thanks Ron, the sun is shining, and I went for a walk, and called in at a small independent ale shop on the way home. Been sat out in the garden chatting with my neighbour over the wall, and I've just had a piece of apple pie and a cup of tea, so not a bad day my friend :D ;)

Sounds great Jack! Pam's working in the office today. I left out at 6am this morning to pick up some bolts and a new drill bit at Home Depot. It's going to be another beautiful day here. The highs are going to be in the upper 80's and the humadity is also creeping back up! I'm just enjoying a leisurely morning on the forum with my friends. Sitting here enjoying a nice cup of French Roast and a couple of beautiful knives! :)

Another morning and on the way to Wound Care again today:eek: but I'm not carrying a Lambfoot with me. However, I've assigned this "Lil-un" with Pere David Stag and upswept handle desk duty.

You haven't seen The Mummy vs. the Aztec Zombie.

LOL! No I've not but I'll make it my new lockdown mission to do so. :D

I'm glad you finally got your Lapplander David :)

Both Fancy and Functional... Great picture.:thumbsup:

There's nothing wrong with change David! Especially when it is that nice! ;) Great looking Laplander! :)

Thanks chaps. It looks like a proper piece of quality kit.

My new normal for good. :D

Your MM Barlow looks great. I'll be getting my MM Sheffield Barlow back from being reconstructed soon. Pictures look good. It's been a long and arduous road with this thing and I will share with all once it's back with me.

Was that the one with huge gaps and a near right angle blade?

Another one to put on the list I guess.
I regard the movie "She" as the worst movie worth watching. :D

The one with Ursula Andress?

Fortunately, I'm less sensitive than most. I heard the upstairs footsteps only once,

Ahh that's a shame. I worked in a haunted pub for a couple of years and sensitivity, or lack thereof, seemed to be no obstacle for anyone watching and listening to those shenanigans.

Nice pic Dylan :)

Thank you, Jack. A fine pic of your Hartshead this morning - interesting comic too, I like it.

Fantastic picture, Dylan. :cool::thumbsup:

Good Morning Guardians
I have a fun lunch meeting today with two friends from work.
We are having coffee and sammiches in the park... Social distancing of course.

Thank you, John. Nice job on the tooling with that slip. Tooling isn't something that I have a lot of experience with - need to practice more.

Dylan, I gave two thumbs up for the photo and that beautiful Ebony Lambsfoot!!!:thumbsup::cool:

Good morning Guardians! Hope y'all are safe and well! :) This morning I'm hanging out with "Stan"! ;) A 2019 Jack Black Guardians SFO in Ironwood! Y'all have a great Tuesday!

Thank you so much, Ron. I love how you have captured the beautiful grain in that Ironwood.

I think I will join you in carrying a bit of Ironwood today - switch it up a little. This time, I'll show off the pile side - markedly different, yet striking.

How’s the slab thickness when viewed from above?
Many thanks Chin. Your posts are always a joy.

The following images are a fair representation of my Pére David. The handles are a departure from what I’m used to. The oddness is part of it’s attraction to me. I love the way this knife feels in my grip. As I examine the knife more closely, I notice its’ flaws, but I find it’s overall look and feel more than compensate for any single issue.

Thanks for the report my friend
I’m with you on blade centering. No blade rubs, so no worries. Action is quite good. The Pho and apple pie goes nicely with your Hartshead.

That's nice Harvey.
Thank you David, very nice post.

Good Afternoon Guardians.

Year round GT. There's a culture in the UK, started in the Victorian era of Robins appearing on Christmas cards and being a symbol of Christmas.

Cheers GT. That's a good shot of LamBarJack there.

Aye Jack, I bought my twin-blade with bexoid cos it was the only twin-blade one available in the shop, otherwise I'd have chosen different covers.
...
Last time I looked, all of the Shadow radio shows are on Youtube.

Cheers GT, tasted great. :D

Todays carry doing nothing.

Thanks for the info on robins, and The Shadow on YouTube. Thanks for the compliment on my LamBarJack pic. :)
I kind of like the economy look of the bexoid covers! Same goes for Harvey's example in the quote that follows.
I wish I looked as good doing nothing as your horn lambsfoot does! :):thumbsup:

...
Jack Black Jack Black - I’m in and would like to nominate JJ - @JJ Cahill - Based on his comments relating to a fine appreciation for Sheffield cutlery, and his level of consistent participation, indicates one who just needs a nudge. A Lamb Foot in the hand nudge.

Thank You GT. Sorry for the loss of the fellow you use to know.

JJ is a good nomination, Harvey; I'll second that! ;):cool:
Thanks for the shot of the Brookes and Crookes tang stamp. :)
I appreciate your remark about the long-ago war casualty.

I have a more beat-up one in the basement, which is older than I can remember. This one is heavier gauge aluminum. I got it at an estate sale and Mom insisted on buying it from me.
gIrBneL.jpg

I saw a bigger one in the heavier stock today at a newly reopened antique mall. Maybe I should get it.
9hKngGj.jpg

You guys have convinced me. I'll go and buy that big one. Unless someone more quaint and curious than I has beaten me to it.
I took looked more carefully at our 9" and 11" diameter colanders, and am starting to appreciate the subtle differences in the hole patterns of these utensils! ;) I like your second photo a lot, Jer, and am surprised how small that colander is!

We have 3 of those metal colanders, the oldest one was my grandmother’s. She passed away in 1973 and I am sure she had hers a long time before that.
All 3 of our colanders are from the Mirro Aluminum Co. They started making colanders around 1909 I believe.
I can't find any manufacturer markings on either of our aluminum colanders. What sizes do you have, Les? I've seen lots of aluminum pots/pans from Mirro over the years.

I’m cleaning out the house where I grew up. This colander is pretty old.
U4HaFGI.jpg
Aha! So a 6-pointed star is not a mandatory pattern for the holes in an aluminum colander. Nice example, Dave!:cool::thumbsup:

...
We called those "strainers" and I thought that pattern was just for kosher kitchens. :p

One day, my mother asked me to hand her the colander, and I just looked at her blankly, "The what?" "Quit playing! The colander!" Finally, I saw what she was pointing at, "Oh, the strainer? Okay." I swear, I'd never heard her call it anything else, and here she was annoyed with me for not knowing the proper word.

I've always had one in the kitchen, although I never remember buying one... o_O
Interesting story, Rachel.:cool::thumbsup: I'm almost sure we always called them "strainers" when I was a lad, but I have no recollection of when I started using the term "colander" for a holey aluminum bowl. What did you call the wire-mesh "basket" with a long handle? I still call those strainers.

Nany thanks Gary, and thanks for all your contributions here :) You always seem full of beans my friend :)

A pleasure :) I hope they return to putting deposits on glass bottles here at some point, it seems such an easy and obvious way to encourage recycling. I have rather a large pile of bottles in my kitchen, with little excuse as I only have to carry them a couple of streets  Maybe today ;)

Nice colourful photo GT :)
...
Join the crowd, Jack! I'm frequently accused of being full of one substance or another!:D
The governor of my state announced yesterday that grocery stores may start accepting bottle/can returns (with limitations TBA) starting 15 June.:thumbsup:
Thanks for the color commentary! ;)

Interesting lineup indeed. Now Neil Diamond is someone I would have loved to see live. I have an old live album of his (Hot August Night) that is pretty "rocky n rolly" for a pop singer. I would blow the dust off it to play it but my old Thorens turntable is FUBAR'ed as well as the AKG cartridge has needed a new stylus for the last 30 years.
My wife has that album; I think it's a very strange photo on the cover. Here it is with my Schrade 19OT Lamb Shark:

Good Morning Guardians
I finally got the call I've been waiting for last night...
I've mentioned a few times how I've been extra busy at work, this is because my school is closing for good and they have laid off all 12 teachers (including me). I was part of a committee to "re-imagine" the school with only 3 teachers left on staff. We've put in a lot of hours trying to figure out how to make it work, knowing that not all the teachers on the committee would be re-hired. Last night I got the call from HR that I will be re-hired for our new school... It's time to celebrate!!! Still a ton of extra work ahead of me as we forge the new program, but I'm happy to get to stay at the school I've been at for 15+ years. Sorry for the long and personal post, I'm just very excited. :)

Thank you, Jack. :)
Yes, it was very stressful. My wife is a high-up administrator for another district and she told me there will be hiring freezes all across the state due to restricted budgets caused by the work shut-down recently. Not a good time for teachers looking for work.
Congrats on getting the good news, John!:cool::thumbsup: Great celebratory knife!!:thumbsup::cool:
I fear that this will be a hard time for everyone looking for jobs, and the economic implications will stick around for quite a while. :(

Good morning Guardians, it's TEW Thursday around here today  Or maybe it's Thompson Thursday :D

That's a stunner, Rob! :thumbsup::eek::thumbsup:

Thanks Gary.
That delicious stuff on that sandwich is Liverwurst. It is one of those odd foods that my grandmother got me to like.
I have always been an adventurous eater. Part of that came from being broke and eating what was around and cheap. :)

49941576963_27ecaf40a3_h.jpg
Thanks for the ingredient info, FBC. :) I ate a lot of liverwurst (I think we called it liver sausage) sandwiches when I was a kid, but haven't had one in a long time. I almost bought a "tube" for lunch sandwiches during our vacation last August, but opted for summer sausage instead.

Heart-stopping WCLF, and timely title page!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks for sharing your lamb origin story, GT!

I'm so glad you've enjoyed them. I've had fun with them and always appreciate seeing other folks' contributions to the theme. @Prester John has been particularly good at noticing when the momentum has fallen off and it needs a nudge. :)
You're welcome, Greg; it's been interesting to read people's replies. :)
Vince is very good about keeping the "I carry a lambsfoot" feature alive and well!:cool::thumbsup:

...
I'd never heard either of those terms before, GT!

It's a homemade brioche bun with lettuce, hamburger patty, cheddar cheese, and BBQ sauce, topped with a slice of onion that had been battered and fried
along with the onion rings. It was kinda hard to get my mouth around. Does that qualify?
...
I hadn't heard them either, Greg, but they came up in recent posts by Barrett and David, quoted below:
Jack, one of my favorite places I had a bacon sandwich in England was this little farm shop/cafe outside Bath that we visited several times with my brother and his family. They called it a “door step” sandwich (I’m not sure if that’s a common term there, or if it denotes something specific?), and it came with lots of bacon and the option to add a fried egg (I opted in ) on thick-sliced, crusty bread. ...
...
We've a saying round where I live in England when insulting people who are...intellectually challenged.
"Thick as a Wigan butty" (a butty being what we call a sandwich).
Wigan buttys are regionally renowned as being a bit...generous. :D So basically what everyone calls a 'door step' sandwich.
...

I’m also carrying my Rosewood Big'un today! I just took this photo of it sporting a fresh chili dog patina! :D

49945395516_a09621abb6_o_d.jpg
Ron, maybe I like that knife so much because it enjoys chili dogs! ;):cool:

JohnDF JohnDF - No need to apologize about being personal John. That's what we'er here for in this thread. Not only to admire each other's knives but to support each other and I can tell you the support of you guys and gals during my latest and ongoing adventure has been uplifting. Good luck in the upcoming school year. Watch out for "Spitballs":)
Well-said, ED! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

No need to panic when you have an outstanding stag, triple-rattail knife like that one, Harvey!:thumbsup::cool:
Hey, wait a minute! Is there some kind of trick photography involved, or is that knife VERY small? Shorter than a car key??

My Lambsfoot this week is my Man Jack:
