Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Good morning Guardians! I have a couple more comparison photos this morning. My 2017 Guardians with Horn and my 2018 Guardians with Ebony. Both of these variations have the same style fluted bolsters. I am very fond of these bolsters because I think they have the look that was common on many of our older Sheffield examples. :)

Originally I planned to use saw cut bone because I'm a big fan of it on the vintage USA barlows, but I decided against it because I wanted to use something that Sheffield cutlers were using around the time this knife was made. I don't have any knives in Osage, I hear it's a tough cover and changes color with time and use. Thanks for the suggestion dc50:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Your very welcome, I don't have any Knives with the Orange either. Every time someone posts a pic with an Osage Orange handle ,I'm drawn to it.

Please don't underestimate what a PITA it is to deal with Sheffield cutlers. It was a massive relief just to get hold of this year's knives
One would think they would make every effort to be helpful as customer satisfaction and word of mouth are highly important to maintaining a niche market. I would wager a good proportion of their export sales are to people that have at some point viewed this thread. If anything Wright's should recognize that they are getting a huge boost in free advertising (heck, you are paying them!) both at home and abroad, especially with items that should generate additional interest by giving a venue to demonstrate their best efforts.

Getting Wright's to do the bolsters was an absolute nightmare this year! o_O I'll not go into all the details, but my original specifications were for a hollow/fluted bolster (like last year's) on a red/white horn knife, and a rat-tail bolster on a jet-black ebony knife. Instead, and after a great deal of messing about, we ended up with a hollow bolster on an ebony knife, and a threaded bolster on a horn knife. Please don't underestimate what a PITA it is to deal with Sheffield cutlers. It was a massive relief just to get hold of this year's knives

Jack, we are lucky to have you and there is not a drop of sarcasm in that statement.

Nice comparison shots of nice knives, Ron!

I like the way the stag is fitted - and nice photo, Steve!

Nice stripey wood, JP! Are the model, emblem and book a tribute to a car of yours?:)

Thanks again Jack, hope mine shows up in another week or so.

I hope so my friend :)

Hells bells Jack,sounds like a nightmare.Could turn a mortal man to drink:rolleyes:

Definitely! :D I needed the drink to be able to sleep! :D

While I've not actually seen saw-cut bone on Lambsfoot knives, Sheffield cutlers definitely used it on Barlows. Just about everything has scaled a Lambsfoot at so,me point I think ;)

Wow! What superb pics Ron! :) How have you kept that horn looking so glossy? I don't think I've even put anything on mine!  :D

I have a nice wee FB made and gifted to me by our friend Duane @sitflyer with Osage Orange handles, great-looking wood, but have never seen Osage used on a Sheffield knife

I'm afraid they have no interest in the internet whatsoever, they don't even run their own website :(

We may be lucky to have gotten our knives before Wright's are done in by their own quaintness. Hoping not, of course.

I hope they go on for many years, but I wish they'd adopt some modern business practices :(

Great-looking knife Steve :)

That's some nice stripey ebony JP :)

Thanks a lot my friend, you are all very kind to me :)

BTW my statement wasn't meant in any way as a response to your previous post! :D

Thanks for the compliment on the photos Jack! :) I believe a lot of the shiny areas in these photos is actually caused by shadowing and natural light. The only thing I use on my knives is highly refined mineral oil. I normally don’t specifically oil the handles on my knives. Just a good wipe down and rubbing with a cotton or micro fiber cloth which usually has some oil residue on it. However, since I have had some issues with warpage and shrinking on my horn handled Lambsfoot knives, as we have discussed before, I do try to keep a light film of oil rubbed into the horn for added protection.

Perhaps if you explain to them it is like a big Exhibition Hall from the 1850's, show them some engravings of the Crystal Palace, lend them a copy of Sheffield Exhibition Knives and follow up by saying something like "its like that, except its bigger on the inside than on the outside." Of course I know you have already tried all of this to no avail. I feel for you bro.

I agree, the person who sent her has good taste! :D

It wasn't me was it?!

Your photos look great Ron :) Good stuff, I should take a bit more care of mine really

Thanks my friend! :D  Between Wright's and Stan Shaw, it's hard not to feel like a time-traveller in Sheffield sometimes! ;)

Well, I happened to check the tracking # that Jack sent me and it says that delivery was attempted 10 days ago!!!

It is rather fortunate that I thought to check it as they were preparing to send it back in a few days. Hopefully I can swing by Post Office and pick it up this afternoon.

Yikes! I checked it myself and was rather alarmed, don't want to have to ship that one twice! Hope you get it OK Dylan

Thanks, Jack. I am a bit peeved that there wasn't a notice to be found saying that they had attempted delivery, I could have picked it up all this time. :(

Regardless, here is a pretty picture to serve as a placeholder. Another one of Lake Claggett.
