Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks Jack! Since I retired I take a lot of my photos on my back deck. It is facing East so if I get out there before the sun rises above the mountains I can usually get very decent lighting. I now take almost all of my photos with my iPhone. Then I message them to my iPad where I have a larger screen for these old eyes to examine the photos. I also have a nifty app that I downloaded on my iPad that I can use to edit the photos. The main thing I always do is change the size. Most cell phone photos are huge as we all know. I size my photos to no larger than 1000 pixels in either direction. This usually results in a photo that is between 300kb - 500kb instead of 3mb - 5mb. :)

That sounds like a good system Ron :) My house faces south, but the lighting for photography is rarely good, and I have hardly ever taken knife pics in my front or back gardens, partly because you're likely to get a visit from a SWAT team the way things are over here! I haven't used my iPad in ages, I tend to take pics on my wee Canon (a Powershot SX620HS), usually in auto, then upload the pics to my PC and edit them there. Considering the amount of pics I take, I keep thinking I should visit the photography sub-forum and educate myself some, but I never seem to make the time :D In the past, I've had around 350 photos published in magazines, and what have you, but I think standards were lower then, and I've always been pretty clueless! :D Knife photography presents plenty of challenges, but at least with a single blade you're less likely to cut yourself! ;) :D

Not here yet Jack,I will let you know asap. As you and I discussed before, those 2 Lambsfoots I had ordered from a dealer in Sheffield still haven't showed up. The Dealer doesn't have tracking # for them.
Its past 2 months now. I'm afraid I will have to write them off as a loss. :(

I hope they get to you soon  I think I know the site you mean, I have only dealt with them once  That is shocking service, have they not offered any proof that they were sent at all?! o_O Is there no recourse via PP? You might want to contact Wright's and tell them about your experience

I mentioned that I may try Going through PayPal, he replied they are a real hassle, and that he will deal with it.
So far he blames Customs and Canada Post,or theft, the thing is I have had no problems receiving packages from Hennie Hanes.
HH is efficient and fast, if they would have had the Ebony and Buffalo Horn I would have ordered from them.

Man this is disappointing so far all I have is that one warped rosewood Lambsfoot. How am I supposed to be a full fledge Guardian
with that ha ha! :p

Doesn't sound like he's doing a very good job  I reckon I've shipped well over a hundred parcels across the pond (and elsewhere) the past few years. Not a single one has gone missing. Nor have I had anything go missing coming to me either. So it's hard not be suspicious o_O You don't live in the Bermuda Triangle do you?! ;)

You might want to consider posting about your experiences here, so others are forewarned - https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/feedback-the-good-the-bad-the-ugly.699/ Really sorry you've had such a rotten experience my friend

Did he not get a Royal Mail tracking number? It should still work with Canada Post. Did he charge for more than standard shipping? It sounds like PayPal might at least get your money back. You have been very patient.

No he didn't get a tracking number,he told me after, it would have made the shipment cost much higher. I think for each knife I paid around $16.00 shipping Canadian. The two knives were shipped 4 days apart A Wright's Ebony and the second a Bulls Horn.
One knife was paid with PayPal the other with World Pay not sure who Worlpay is,it was through an invoice he sent me.

Tracking and insurance would have added another $10 Canadian, maybe less

Terrible situation my friend :( Bad as it is though, we should try and get back to talking about knives rather than the buying process

Jack, that's a good looking one, the way it sounds these could be hit or miss.

Thanks pal, I think the other four were probably better :) They're Sambar rather than the Pere David stag which Wright's generally use, and made a bit nicer than usual I think ;)

I'm starting to wonder  Bermuda Triangle  Yes I have purchased many many knives from the USA and even Finland and Italy never a problem. Oh well as My Dad would say live and learn.

He should have had tracking for that much cash for each knife. Make a claim with Paypal.

Speaking of knives, and just to get a bit of balance with the newest of the Guardian Lamb foot knives, what is the oldest example of the pattern that the Guardians have discovered?

Er....Greg has indexed the history posts, but so far we've not been able to date it any earlier than the late 19th century. Here's a couple from the TEW 1897 catalogue (I think we might have examples from a little earlier):

Edit - @herder has got us back to 1890 - https://www.bladeforums.com/attachments/bf-sheffield-makin-lf-cat-1890-3-jpg.729300/ - with this Thomas Makin & Son Lambsfoot

I really think these knives capture the working spirit of the pattern quite well. Simple yet elegant in execution.

Thank you sir :)
