Hello, Guardians,
I’ve taken great pleasure in reading the posts on this forum for quite a while now and so I’d like to apply for membership.
I understand I have to add a pic of my lambfoot and seek approval of its authenticity.
Well, I’ve tried, believe me, and I really don’t want this to keep me on the other side of the fence, but when I click on the picture icon, the insert image function is asking for the image’s URL.
The photos I have are saved on my phone, so how can I enter a URL?
Please could one of you veteran forum members kindly take me under your wing and explain how I can upload the pics of my knife?
I believe it belonged to my Great Grandfather. My Dad recognised it as having belonged to his Grandfather. It has R. Groves as the maker stamped into the tang, so it’s definitely a ‘Sheffielder’, but I can only find reference to Groves being makers of saws - albeit highly respected saws.
The scales appear to be of buffalo horn and, after what is probably a hundred years, there is zero blade-play and the back spring snaps it back into the handle like an alligator.
I’m so proud to have found this at the bottom of my own Grandfather’s tool box, soaked in grease and dust, but thank Heavens it was - that grease has acted like embalming fluid on the blade and spring and kept it fresh for another century...
I really look forward to an avuncular reply re: my pics problem. Many thanks.

I have had trouble posting from my phone as well, but received the following instructions from flatblackcapo flatblackcapo several months ago. It has worked for me, and is usually how I post my pictures.

Good luck, and Welcome!

From flatblackcapo flatblackcapo :

"I don't use my phone for much more than a phone and taking pics so posting from a pc is easier for me. This is my method, using the Firefox browser.
Find the pic wanted on Flickr in the photostream, click on that
it takes you to the page with just that pic. In the lower right hand corner there is a arrow with a line under it, click that and choose " View all sizes"
Choose the size you want to post and right click on the pic, select "view image info"
A window will pop up and the text needed should already be highlighted.
right click that highlighted line and copy.
Go back to the forum and click on the little mountain in the square next to the smiley face.
Paste the text into the pop up window and click insert.
You should see your pic in your post now. If you don't see it, something went wrong.
I hope I explained it so it is understandable. Writing is not my forte.
hit me up if you have any questions."

Edit: you can download the Flickr app for free and transfer your phone photos to the photostream on Flickr. Then put the ones you want to post in the "public" album. Not sure if that is necessary, but is what I do. You can access these from any computer by going to Flickr and signing in.

Goooood Morning Guardians! Hope everyone is off to a great week! I’m starting the week with my Ironwood Bigun! :D

A lovely start to the week Ron :)

Thanks, Jack. It only took about 19 shots to get both the Lambsfoot and Riley in frame. ;):D

Dave, a vacuum is of no use on my dust bunnies, I would have to use the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. ;):D

LOL! Yes, I tend to take as many pics as I can, and hope that one of them is right :D

That is one bad bunny! :D

Welcome to Bladeforums @Rockley Lad, to The Porch, and to the Guardians thread, it's good to have you here :) Guardianship is almost within your grasp ;) If you set up a free account with a photo hosting site such as Imgur, you can upload your photos, and it will give you the code to add to your post (without you having to use the 'insert image' icon. If you have problems, there are a whole load of posts on the subject in the Technical sub-forum. Good luck, and I hope we can get to see a photo of your grandfather's Lambsfoot soon

According to the great Sheffield historian Ralph Eadon Leader, Groves was perhaps the oldest saw manufacturer in the town, apparently established in 1770. The good Sir Geoffrey of Tweedale tells us that the founder was Richard Groves, who passed away on the 2nd May 1832, aged 87. The firm was located on Snow Lane, and later at Beehive Works on Snow Lane and Allen Street (I may have a photo of the factory). In the early nineteenth century, Richard's sons Thomas and William ran the firm. As well as manufacturing saws, Groves advertised as a steel converter and refiner. They were a firm of some size, with the local press reporting that nearly a hundred workers and apprentices attended William's funeral, when he died in 1847, aged 66. His son, also William, was the next partner, but there then followed a difficult period, with several changes of management, and bankruptcy in 1879. William died in 1890, aged 80. The company name was then acquired by Moses Eadon, and continued to be listed as a saw, tool, and file manufacturer in Saville Street East. It was registered as a limited company in 1902, with a capital of £1,000, but wound up in 1911. After the mid 1920's, the name Richard Groves & Sons Ltd appeared once again in directories, but now as a manufacturer of cutlery, electro-plate, spoons, forks, scissors, butchers requisites, and pocket cutlery. The address was now Egerton Works in Egerton Street (again, I may have a photo). The trade mark was the word 'USE' and a chamber stick device, which had first been registered in 1789 by file manufacturer Thomas Vickers, and later re-registered by William Groves in 1841. In the 1960's, the Groves name was owned by Charles Havenhand, who later sold it to Herbert Houseley for £250.

Nice work Vince (and Kevin), and since you've now added a first name to your sig line, it's nice to be able to publicly address you by it my friend :)
