Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

So, in an effort to avoid consuming all the weird stuff the folks at the water treatment plant decide to "fortify" my tap water with, and to avoid buying water in plastic bottles (maybe even worse?), I distill and run it through a carbon filter before drinking it.

The stuff in the dish is some of what remains after distilling. After enough build up, the residue flakes off and gets rinsed out before refilling. What is it? Probably mostly calcium carbonate and iron oxide - as for the rest, your guess is as good as mine. All I know is I'm not eager to drink it. I like my H²O to be, well, H²O - no more, no less.

We just collect rainwater and have that hooked up to our cold water taps through the house 🙂

I'd prefer that, but I imagine it would take some doing to get set up!! The countertop distillation unit was affordable and field expedient but can't remove any compounds more volatile than water (no vapor trap), hence the carbon filter step.

Interestingly; Florida has no restrictions on harvesting rainwater and, in fact, encourages the practice but a few states do have prohibitions and regulations in place which boggles the mind. 😮

Mine was set up when we moved in but it’s pretty straight forward. My grandmother just had a tank collecting rainwater off the roof with a tap off it directly. She’d go out and take a jug each morning.

I’d heard you needed a licence in some US states to collect rainwater, sounds like a candidate for civil disobedience.

Your stag senator looks great 👍

I hope you get a good night's rest, we'll hold down the fort 👍
Thanks a lot Steve :)
Thanks Jack
Hope your week goes well.
I bet Jack has Friday on his mind 😀
I sure do mate, and thanks for the tunes! :D

Arty pic Mitch

Evening guardians, had a busy day today. Took young Elliot down to Melbourne (3 1/2 hrs) for his circumcision. It’s getting more controversial in Aus for some reason and no local doctors will perform it. Anyway, I had the GL-24 in the pocket for the journey.

I didn’t actually take a photo today, but here’s one from when he was born. It’s really grown on me, someday I’ll have to find another Albers lamb.

Hope you all have a great day.

I get my water straight from the ground.

I worked for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for many years. One day when heading out to the field I realized I had forgotten something: boots, hat, whatever. Since my house was on the way we stopped to pick it up. A hydrogeologist that worked in the unit I supervised saw my wellhead. The following conversation ensued:

Brian: "You have well water?"
Me: Yes.
Brian: "Ever have it tested?"
Me: "No. Why would I do that?"
Brian: "There might be something bad in it."
Me: "But I like my well water. If I found out it had something bad in it, I wouldn't like it anymore."

Shaking his head he gave me a look like one does with an exceptionally dumb dog. He never was quite sure what to make of me :p

Very interesting Will, and a great pic too :)

Good evening Guardians, I hope everyone is doing OK. Sorry for rushing a bit. It's 8.45pm here, and it seems like midnight. I finally got back home 2-3 hours ago, but haven't even had time to make a cup of tea yet. So busy I've even had to cancel a orks trip to Manchester tomorrow. I might be working until the early hours, but the good news is I can get up at 7am, instead of 5am. Don't think I'll be getting to the market this week  Had my trusty GL-24 today, and tomorrow I'm going back to L'Ariete! Hope you have a good day Guardians

Great stag....filtered H2O for me.
Our water company adds too many chemicals.
Water test looks like a lab report from Chernobyl!

Cool story Mike :D I had a pal, years ago, lived in a small cottage, with an ancient hand-pump in the kitchen. The council tested the water one time, told him it was unfit for human consumption. Yet, he lived well into his 80's, maybe longer, and looked decades younger! :D
