Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

These horn handles are exquisite. I don't believe there is another organic material that delivers the heterogeneity of horn. They seem as disparate and unique as paintings on canvas. From sunsets and galaxies to Jackson Pollocks. I sure hope we have more of them at some point in the future. :rolleyes:

You caught me, Jack. I was trying to get her good side. Here is the humble handle side.

Hey, that looks pretty nice too :) It reminds me of my horn knife from last year - unfortunately hammer marks were not properly polished out of the blade. Wright's are going to fix it for me, but it'll need to have the blade completely re-polished and the etch reapplied :thumbsup:

Unfortunately, the very inconsistency, in terms of both colour and 'character', makes getting a large run done difficult. I asked for red and white horn for the 2018 knives, like the one below, but the colour ended up being quite different. There's also the issue of the horn shrinking or warping in the hot, dry climates some Guardians live in :thumbsup:

Heres another one Dwight.:p :D

Well, I may have to seek some of these out as a private enterprise. :) Thanks Jack and that is another amazing beauty.

Picking out one knife is not so difficult, I spotted that knife on the bench while visiting the factory with @Cambertree . I have picked up a lot of nice horn models for Charlie @waynorth, and a few other folks :thumbsup:

Jack, I like these golden ones as well, I wonder what the reason is that some come out black and others golden? :confused:

The black is just plain buffalo horn Dave, it's cheaper than the golden oxhorn. Wright's mainly used to use plain black buffalo horn for their horn-handled knives, as did the other Sheffield cutlers. The more colourful stuff is a relatively recent thing, with demand for it probably fuelled by this thread. :thumbsup:

Edit - As for what causes all the character, I have discussed this at length with Wright's Head Cutler, and we really don't know. It could be caused by some sort of mineral deficiency in the buffalo for all we know.

You see Jack by starting the Guardians, you have affected the marketing and history of the lambsfoot traditional path, ta' dah :thumbsup::thumbsup::D:p

@donn I liked the little Masseys and the Ford N series, nice and low. That B Deere was always scary for me as a kid, with the narrow wheels. I think it was a '49 model.

How does horn do in a hot, humid climate?

I'm about to hit the hay here, but as always, it's been a pleasure shooting the breeze with you all - just don't want you thinking I'm ignorant if I don't post again! ;) :D Once again, have a great weekend Guardians :thumbsup:
Bet you'll be up before I hit the hay, Jack! Hope you have a great weekend.

I'm going to a hockey game tomorrow night with my daughter. Would love to get a shot of my lambsfoot with the zamboni in the background, but they don't allow knives in the arena/building. We got sent back to our car last time because we were both carrying knives. I only had one, but my daughter had two or three. (Raising her right! :) ).

Proud papa moment. It's sad that our society is so scared these days that a small, innocent, little pocket knife is banned in so many locations. But that is the world we live in and I guess we have to adapt.
Yes, it's a real shame. I've used knives (pocket knives, kitchen knives, hunting/camping/fishing, etc.) many thousands of times. Never hurt anyone (well, cut myself a couple of times) or used one as a weapon (except bayonet practice!). Knives are indispensable tools.

I'm not even working this week, but this thread (or the combination of several threads I read regularly) is moving WAY too fast for me to keep up. Here are some posts I've enjoyed sometime recently. :rolleyes:

Amazingly Charismatic AC, Ron! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I'm gonna ignore the snowy pic and bask in the warm glow of your 2018 Guardians ebony, Jer! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Resplendent rosewood, Joe! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

...
I mean, just lookat it! :)

Usually, I'd find the discussion of lambsfoot ergonomics stimulating and satisfying, but today I'm not THINKING lambsfoot, I'm just FEELING it! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup::p Like Rachel said, Just lookat it!!! That is sublime stag right there!

In my pocket today.

D Dschal , I revere that rosewood you're rockin'! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

That Cracker Jack is looking swell, Gary.
Nice post.
I appreciate your taking the time to write that, Vince! :)

At first I thought "DC" meant "decapitated", but I think maybe you are confusing St Paul's Cathedral for our national capitol building. That's a souvenir pub sign a friend brought me from London.
To answer your question, the only honest lawyer is a .... well, you can fill in the blank! ;)
We also got a "pub sign" for "The Quiet Woman".
You're exactly right, Vince. :oops: Even though I didn't see the dome until my 2nd look at your post, when I saw it I thought, "Ah, that headless lawyer is in Washington, DC." Cool pub signs. ;):thumbsup::cool:

Rex is on the lookout for Arthur. He's very protective.
Rex is a K9 King, Vince! :cool::thumbsup::cool:Any relation to Rex the Wonder Dog?

Your posts are always a treat to read my friend, and those are superb pics of your Cracker Jack :) :thumbsup:

There's a pub of that name in a small town on the edge of West Yorkshire. I was out hiking that way, and thought I'd call in for a pint. I have to say, it may well be the worst pub in Yorkshire, and the worst beer I've ever tasted in a pub anywhere! o_O They should sell the sign, and burn the pub down! :rolleyes:
...
Your kind remarks on my posts are encouraging and appreciated, Jack. :) Was the bad pub named "The Honest Lawyer" or "The Quiet Woman"? I should know in case I'm ever shipwrecked and washed up, thirsty, on the landlocked West Yorkshire coast! :D:D

If you sit like that dog while doing yoga, that might be the source of your knee pain, Dave! :eek::thumbsdown:;)

Yeah, I know! 5K Qs 5K Qs wanted to replace the clip blade on a trapper (or mini trapper) with a lambsfoot. I would have traded for the spey and kept the clip.
We are a diverse group, but that's good.
;)
But, as Rachel said, Lookat 'em!! :cool::thumbsup::D Who could resist these beauties??

So I guess not everybody is as lucky as me and has a wife that nags them to clean up their mess? :oops:
Role reversal for me, John. :rolleyes: I've been trying to convince my wife for almost 35 years that neatness has many benefits!

Hypnotic horn, @lambertiana! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Alpine Climber AC, Vince, with some stately and sober Guardians there! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Posted this in Beverages thread, but figured it might fit in here too. :) (My lambsfoot sure works up a thirst!)
Alcohol Chugging AC, Vince! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup: Probably finally celebrating your naming him Knife of the Year! ;)

Here's RALF enjoying a bit of sunshine before this weekend's snow storm.

RALF looks like he'll be up to whatever challenges hit you guys; hope it's not too bad, Jeff! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Anytime, Gary, anytime. :cool:
This is my favorite pic out of the bunch. Cracker Jack is looking mighty fine, mighty fine indeed.
...
Thanks, FBC. :) I like the totally unplanned "bolster sunbeam" that showed up in that pic. :rolleyes:

Fascinating post, Jack! I enjoyed every minute of it. Though it is rather beyond me as to why someone would take the pains to fake something that is so seemingly mundane, I cannot but feel sorry for the unfortunate guy/gall that likely got duped... Like Ron, I also have seen the plastic covered Winchester "Lambsfoot" knives. Odd things... They never appealed to me and the price is somewhat absurd. You can find them by searching: Winchester Sheepfoot.

Here are a couple of pics that I swiped off the bay.

I had not the time or the ability to take proper pictures today (rotten weather...). Please forgive the recycled picture. Though it isn't too old.
...
Thanks for the Winchester lambsfoot images, Dylan. Is there consensus about the source of those knives?
If we must apologize for each recycled photo we post, I have a LOT of apologizing to do!! :eek::rolleyes: Dylan, if I give proper attribution, may I just quote your statement in my signature to save time??

Toffeewings is a handsome example of the 2017 Guardians horn lambsfoots, Jer! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Early afternoon here, and my internet connection is awful o_O I'm carrying this feller again ;) :thumbsup:

Mesmerizing covers on that rascal, Jack! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Dwight, is your radiant rosewood resting on a draw pin for that Kubota? :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

...
Well, ever since I ordered a bit of Colman's Mustard some time ago, it has become a bit of a favorite of mine. ... I thought I only ordered one jar but I received a case of six! I don't think I will be running out anytime soon...

Dylan, you seem to be having some surprises with recent orders of yellow stuff! ;):p:D

All Consuming AC you have, Travman! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Here's mine again - Cracker Jack on the rocks.
