Thanks pal The Howarth was a gift from English knifemaker Paul Mason, it was his boyhood companion, so led a tough life. I should do something with that point really. Paul used to post here, many years ago. I hope him and his missus, Jan, are doing well, nice people

Had a great day with the wife. We took a good long walk around the local lake, which is a pond anywhere but Texas .

I had the lamb that started it all for me. Rough in every way — uneven grind, liner gaps, mismatched ebony, bear claw snap. Still love it.

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I had a quiet evening, reading, listening to some music, and having a few glasses of wine. It's unusual for me to have the time for that lately I need to do some housework today, and then I have a work meeting at 6pm, to sort out what I have to do this coming week. Yes, Howarth's was once a decent-sized cutlery company, but like the others, it waned over the years, and Jack was the last of them. He ended up owning Wright's too, and both names were used. John Maleham rented part of the ground floor of the factory building, where he made a selection of artists' tools, and he wanted to buy the building from Jack. Jack was old, and wanted to retire, so he would only sell John the building if he bought the cutlery business too. While John bought both the Howarth and Wright names, he only ever used the latter. I did ask him about getting some Howarth Lambs made up, and he was agreeable, but then suddenly retired, so it was one of many project that never happened

Good morning Guardians, I'm off to the dentist for a filling - lost when a previous dentist hit me in the teeth with the dental pliers! Get a clean and polish while I'm there, and then I'm going into town to do a few things, and hopefully meet up with Wolfie, maybe get a pint if he makes it! Thanks a lot for the kind words David, I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to go abroad to get my teeth fixed properly - not sure it's a good investment at my age, but they were fine until I had to change dentist

The Giraffe Bone is one of 6 Wright's knives that J jsdistin worked on for @ReaperAL, who kindly gifted me half of them
