When I was a kid, 'Golden Syrup' was commonly referred to as 'treacle', and in London, the word 'treacle' is used as a casual endearment
In Yorkshire, it was often pronounced closer to the Old French, 'Triacle', from where the English get the word. Properly made, parkin can be quite expensive to bake yourself, but the one I got yesterday had a lot of 'filler' in lieu of traditional quality ingredients

Thanks DaveThere was another place me and Matt went to, but it certainly won't be becoming a favourite!
In the centre of Leeds, is the city's oldest church, St John's. There is a public garden next to it, and tucked away in this, between the church and the road on the other side, Matt told me an odd little pub had opened. We actually thought it had opened in the spot where a cafe had been, but the cafe was still open, so we went through a gate, and in a small wooden shed, a strange, but amiable pair of young gentlemen, wearing bow-ties, were standing behind a small bar. They had a couple of oddly-named and overpriced beers, which Matt told me had a 'Harry Potter' theme. It was cold, dark, and raining heavily, and we didn't really understand why anyone would want to stand in the rain drinking beer. One of the fellers pointed to a couple of small, unlit sheds, saying we could drink our beer in one of them. It sounded about as appealing as their beer looked!

Later, Matt sent me some guff from their website: "The star of the show? Our outdoor magical chalets - cozy, themed hideaways where you and your friends can gather, laugh, and toast the night away, even on the chilliest evenings. With twinkling lights and a touch of wizardry in the air, The Wand and Tankard brings a unique sparkle to Leeds' social scene."![]()
Back in the 1980's, I was eating some pistachio nuts in a pub, and the brother of a friend I was with, who had just moved to Sheffield from a small town in the North East, was watching me intently. I offered him some, and he took one, opened it carefully, put it into his mouth, and said, "They taste a lot better without the shells!"I got to know Steve pretty well, but not long after, another friend told me that they had seen him in another pub, on his first night in Sheffield, amiably drunk, but complaining about the nuts he was trying to eat

Hello, Guardians. It’s been a crazy couple of months. Traveled to Atlanta, Springfield Missouri , and Newark Delaware for three away games of my nephew’s. They lost all three. Spent Thanksgiving in Pennsylvania with extended family and had a great time. I Also included pictures at a cool Dinosaur Museum that we stumbled on in South Bend during our travels. Sorry I’ve been sparse on the forum. Hope everyone is doing well. I’ve carried this HHB about 90 percent of the time over the last 2 months. Yes…..I’m still rooting for those sorry ass Dallas Cowboys
. Did I mention I HATE WINTER!!!!!

I needn't have worried about devestating Tool Man with news of my absence tomorrow, as he is blubbing in bed with Man Flu again, and so had no interest in anything else. For an ex biker, he isn't half soft!
I got a free coffee in the cafe, and headed imto town for a haircut, but they were short-staffed at the barbers, so I had to leave it. I settled for chips and gravy instead

Sorry to hear about the slip and slide Barrett. Glad there was no permanent damage. We used to see a bunch of ads for Lyle’s Golden Syrup when we had to use a VPN to stream episodes of The Great British Bake Off. (Now it’s on Netflix, so no VPN needed, and no more ads.)
A while back, Julie and I were looking for a new place to go eat. I found a place nearby that seemed like it might be ok at first, pub fare and all that, but the more I looked the stranger it seemed, with oddly named menu items and drinks. Turns out it was a Dungeons and Dragons/Magic the Gathering themed place. We passed.
The girls both love pistachios, but need help sometimes opening the more difficult ones. The other day we were walking around Costco and they had samples of some chocolate covered pistachios. Scout took one, sucked all the chocolate off and then held the pistachio out and asked me to open it for her, thinking it still had a shell.
Great pics, Paul. Y’all have been busy!
Glad it made it there so quickly, Jack!I use those glasses cloths all the time, and find them both useful and amusing. Just be careful with the ones that look like food around Tool Man!
Your chips and gravy look tasty!
We got 6 or 7 inches of snow here the last day or so. I got the driveway all cleaned up this morning and was walking back from helping a neighbor with hers when I slipped and fell on our driveway. I landed pretty hard on my knees, and my wrist is a bit sore, but I don’t think I did any real damage.
I’ve been meaning to post a picture of the excellent Gerstner chest that I won inRufus1949 Bob’s recent GAW. It came in last Thursday (or maybe it was Friday), I just hadn’t gotten around to it yet.

Mine holds six. That's all the lambs I haveMay I ask how many lambs it could hold?
Happy to see the chest has arrived.
I may have to get one.
May I ask how many lambs it could hold?
Barrett, thanks for the detailed answer. I'm looking for one to just hold my lamb collection. It really depends on how you put ‘em in there, but it’ll definitely hold a few.
With the included drawer dividers, you can get 12 or 13 in each drawer. The only downside is that the slots are a little too narrow for some knives. HHBs, Waynorth and Cosimo Lambs fit, but the swell at the butt end of the standard Wrights and Albers Lambs makes them a little too wide, and they have to lean against the divider.
![]()
If you stand ‘em on their spines, you can basically double that number per drawer — there are 27 knives in this pic — but personally this wouldn’t be my preference.
![]()
Without the divider, you can fit 18 per drawer, maybe 20 if you arranged ‘em right (for example, if the two rows were all shorter knives, you might fit a couple long ones perpendicular to the rest along the back).
![]()
I didn’t test out the top section, but it’s a little more spacious than the drawers, so you could probably put 20 knives up there, maybe a couple more.
So for the whole thing I’d say you could fit a minimum of 44 Lambs with the drawer dividers, 54 to 60 comfortably without the dividers, and 70+ if you really crammed ‘em in there.
Thanks Steve, I got well wrapped up before I went out, and was glad I didStay warm buddy. We're digging out from about 6 inches of snow this morning.
Nice ensemble DaveGood morning, Guardians. Beautiful lambs, Gary! And glad to hear your back is strong and your sidewalks are clear of snow! No snow in north Texas but the chilly weather persists. I’ve pulled my bayou trapperagain, ironwood naturally. View attachment 3047280
I only buy one dlice Dave!Looks so good, Jack. How do you stop at one slice?
Looking good Steve
Great jigging Bob
Interesting Barrett, I thought they didn't advertise it anymore, but what do I know, I don't even watch TV!We used to see a bunch of ads for Lyle’s Golden Syrup when we had to use a VPN to stream episodes of The Great British Bake Off. (Now it’s on Netflix, so no VPN needed, and no more ads.)

Mike, sorry to hear that your illness is causing sleep problems. I know that it can be debilitating as well. I’m lucky if I can get 2-3 hours of sleep at night due to the medications I’m taking and the nerve pain in my back and legs. I’ve learned to nap on and off during the day and it helps. I hope that they can can find a solution to your problemI had a bad night last night. I think I got about 3 hours sleep. This morning I was up and at the hospital for a chest CT scan, breathing tests, and a "6 minute walk" test. Next week I see my pulmonologist. Hopefully the tests will reveal that I'm responding well to the drug on I've been on for the last six months
When I got home I posted a couple of comments on BF and then crashed for a couple of hours and forgot to post pics
Without further ado...

Thanks Dan. I've actually been sleeping better lately, but still get a bad night on occasion. Can't fix my lungs. Best I can hope for is slower progression of the disease. I go to an allergist tomorrow for testing regarding the cough. My allergy doc recommended I take a max strength Mucinex every 12 hours and that really seems to have helped with the cough. Hopefully, after I see my pulmonologist next week, I'll be done with doctor appointments until February, but one thing I've learned as I've been sucked into the medical-industrial complex, is that doctor appointments breed doctor appointmentsMike, sorry to hear that your illness is causing sleep problems.
