Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is well. Apologies for my absence yesterday, I had rather an arduous day I’m afraid. I was up at 5.30am to go to London, but on my way to the train station, I received an alert that my journey would be disrupted. It turned out that thieves had stolen cables for the lines overnight, and the trains couldn’t get between Leeds and Doncaster, which is on the route to London. There were various options, one of which was to go back home, and I nearly did that! The train station was full of anxious travellers deciding what to do. Fortunately, I was early, and made a good choice to get a train north to York, and then got a train from there to London. I was warned that the train would be packed, and without a reserved seat, I might have to stand, but I got on the fast train coming from Edinburgh, which was quiet. With only one stop before London, we made good time, and I actually got there 15 minutes ahead of my original arrival time. In Leeds, my train was 2 ½ hours late Leaving! Unfortunately, I was also having connectivity issues with my phone, which made it hard to make calls, and impossible to get online. I don’t know what’s going on, but my internet speeds are appalling at home today, and I’m hoping I can actually post this!
The court case I was covering was over by 1pm, but my return train wasn’t until after 8pm. I felt too tired to go exploring, but sat in an interesting old park to have a sandwich. It turned out to be the churchyard of a church, which had burned down in the Great Fire of London. There was another ruined church nearby, which had been bombed during the London Blitz in World War 2. A security guard told me that an Indian woman had paid £7 Million for the weather vane, but I don’t know what was special about it.
I managed to meet up with my old pal for a coffee, but he had other commitments, so I went for some food on my own, having pasta and a glass of wine. I had another coffee to keep me awake, and then sat outside King’s Cross station listening to a talented Soprano singing Opera, and listening to the random babbling of the crazy people who are in abundance in London.
Eventually, I was able to board my train, which was quiet, and I finished off the small book I’d purchased earlier, and started while I was waiting for my pasta. Back in Leeds, my phone issues prevented me from calling a taxi, but one of my buses stops outside the station, and there was one waiting. It was after 11pm by the time I got in, and I went straight to bed. Unfortunately, I was in so much pain with my legs and feet, I had difficulty sleeping.
I don’t think I’ll be doing much today, but I’ll be carrying
L’Ariete. Have a great weekend Guardians
I might have to edit in a pic when I get my internet issues resolved!
