As usual, things have been crazy around here. Our rather extensive projects for our house have cranked way up - me being knocked out of commission with my bad back has made everything go faster, since we're just hiring professionals and I'm staying out of the way.
- We had the back yard leveled by a guy with a Bobcat (the mini tractor, not the mammal).
- We had electricians come up to drop power - so there are no overhead power or internet cables overhead in our yard anymore, they all go underground from the pole to the house. We only have one ISP, but there were three other sets of cables left over from previous owners, and some of them were drooping so low that I could touch them. All gone now! They also ran futures over to where we are planning on putting a metal shop in the back yard. We did have some neighborhood excitement when the electrician's team nicked the water main with their excavator, which lead to a 30 foot geyser in our backyard, and water being down for 19 houses for about 90 minutes. Good times! (The water main was marked in slightly the wrong location. This is probably the first time it's been exposed in 65 years or so, so fair enough that they were a few feet off from remembering where it was.)
- Our ISP managed to knock our internet connection out a couple of times during this, beside the time they were actually scheduled to do the work.
- The day before our anniversary we had to have power down for about 6 or 8 hours for them to finalize the change, and it was in triple-digit heat, so we didn't want to stay home, but we needed to be nearby. So we rented an Airbnb about 15 minutes away for a micro-mini-vacation for two days.
- This week we're getting concrete poured in two places - a side yard we don't ever use is being turned into a courtyard, and we're getting a pad in the back corner where we'll put the metal shop (won't install the shop itself until next year). The side yard is where our AC's heat exchanger is located, so that had to be moved, so again we're back into triple digit heat for a week or so, and have no AC. You guessed it - we're at a different local Airbnb this week.
- I work from home, and have too much happening on my projects right now to miss any work, so this isn't a vacation for me, it's just a work week from a weird location.
Dawn has had to bounce back to our house almost every day to either consult with the concrete contractor or meet with some other contractors who are bidding on future work. She brought back a very interesting piece of mail from our good friend @Jack Black with a Yorkshire Day card and a fun book! Thanks, Jack, this is delightful!
