Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I've apparently become a weekends-only Guardian when it comes to posting. I've been trying to keep up with reading all the posts in this thread on a daily basis, and have succeeded on most days. But I haven't posted in this thread since last Sunday. Here are some posts from earlier this week that caught my attention.
...
Thanks Gary! That’s two great ones you have pictured today! :)
I appreciate your kind comment, Ron. :)

Dave, you're a magician at finding internet images appropriate to any subject that comes up! :D:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I can really relate to this cool cat's attitude about winter, except I do admit winter has one feature I think is pretty great: no insects!

Thank you my friend, Xmas norovirus probably helped  Well, as long as you're not running around in ski-masks, supplementing your pension, you'll hopefully stay unfettered GT! :D A couple of great shots there, you've really captured them well :)
...
Thanks, as always, for the encouraging words, Jack. :)

...LOL... Thanks GT, yes it's a rosewood big'un.
...
Thanks again GT. I have always admired Man Jack and that Ironwood is one of the runway models.

Thanks for the ID confirmation and for the compliments, Dwight. :) That ironwood lambsfoot of yours looks like the sort of dark, decadent knife that the well-to-do carry! ;)

...
Last week I mentioned that I had won an auction on everyone’s fav web site. I was not sure by the pictures whether it was horn or wood. It arrived late yesterday and it turns out it’s a nice smokey grey colour horn. Pleased with this one.

View attachment 1084129
Congrats on acquiring the smoking horn, Russell!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

...
5K Qs 5K Qs Always a pleasure seeing your knives and their images.
Thanks, Harvey. :) No magic in my pics, unlike yours, but my pics usually give a fairly realistic representation of what my knives look like (to me).

My two new lambs got comparison after a little polish.

Notable pairs of lambs frolicking there, @WDJ & Alan!!!:thumbsup::cool:

...
Always cool when you find out something about a song or artist you've known about for a long time.

Yeah, the head and stomach just doesn't tolerate what they use to!o_O:D

Mmmmm, perfect pair to have close!:) Also great photos!!
...
Thanks, Dennis. :)

Okay, I'm back home and on my laptop. Let's see if I can master the multi-quote again :D
...
Beautiful duo, GT.
...
...
Edit: My first multi-quote. I can do it!
Thanks, John. :) And congrats to you both, John and Vince, on your multi-quote mastery!:cool::cool: If I could figure it out, anyone on The Porch can do it!

Super two tone wood. Love it more every time I look at it.View attachment 1084391
Astounding wood! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I respect Sam's viewpoint, but on Sesame Street I learned that it's hip to be a square (apologies to Huey Lewis & the News):

Killer pics and knives, GT.

Bob & Doug has been a long time favorite of mine. I got this album as a kid...eh.

Thanks, FBC. :) Love those long neck bottles the Mac Bros are swigging from! :D Do any brewers still use those "glass cans"?

...
Morning Guardians, hope everyone had a great weekend :) Like Vince, I'm starting off the week with my AC :)

Great photo of your AC, Jack!:cool::thumbsup: I enjoy walking, but I NEVER look as stylish as this couple! :(

One of my favourite days of the year tomorrow - Shrove Tuesday - Pancake Day! :) ...
I believe the reason pancakes are traditionally eaten on Shrove Tuesday is to use up ingredients that used to be given up for lent, like butter, eggs, milk, etc. It wasn't just meat that was given up. I will enjoy my dinner tonight, and whatever snacks I may eat. Fasting tomorrow.
...
I found the discussion of Shrove/Fat Tuesday discussions here and in the Lounge quite interesting. In my city, for some reason, the day before Ash Wednesday is usually covered on the local news as Paczki Day, with paczki being Polish jelly-filled pastries (originally prune filling, but now almost anything). Current city population has a fairly small percentage with Polish ancestry, but I think many years ago, most of the Catholics in town were Polish, and maybe that's how the tradition became popular. The owner of Marge's Donut Den was on the news, and basically told the same story as Vince about paczki being a way to use up ingredients that were prohibited during Lent.

One of my trophy buckles, some of my leather work, and my Lambsfoot...
Triply impressive photo, John! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool::cool:

Actually I have to say I like cats. I can't eat a whole one. But I like em.

Terrific Tuesday Guardians, I think it's pancakes for the win today, Rosie agreed with me.

I finally was able to persuade all my Guardians to get together for a family portrait! ...

Great mood and perfect lighting with all the wet.
Thanks Harvey.

You too Dwight, superb pic, as always, my friend
Thank you Jack.

And the famous 'Clam Bridge'. A bit of argument as to how old this is. Many believe it's Iron Age so about 2500 years old, but some think it's medieval; about 14th or 15th century. But there's evidence to suggest it's actually an old standing stone, dug up and reused as a bridge. So Iron Age then..
What a lovely stone!! It looks like the surface is actually concaved from the foot traffic.

Thanks for the ID confirmation and for the compliments, Dwight. :) That ironwood lambsfoot of yours looks like the sort of dark, decadent knife that the well-to-do carry!
:D

Good to see you here GT :) Did you put off loads of jobs until you 'retired' or something? ;) :D

Spoken like true Northerner.:p You'd think I'd learn by now, the downside of summer is mosquitos.:mad:

Thank you for the great photos David! They’re very interesting and fascinating to see. :)

What a lovely stone!! It looks like the surface is actually concaved from the foot traffic.

Thanks chaps. Yes Dwight, indeed a grove worn over centuries of use. But if you like that, here's a shot of the surface of the packhorse bridge.

How do you find that CC4 David? I'm not sure I really need to re-sharpen a knife in the field anymore, but you never know! :D

Fantastic pics my friend, I might have to see if I can get a visa to visit when the weather gets a bit better ;) Thanks for the link too

Thank you for your concerns about Lucy's welfare :) Yes, it was 9.40am and I was on my own in the gardens, in fact the whole of the city centre was very quiet until an hour later. I guess all the tourists must want a lie-in and/or be nursing hangovers! :D

Hope you're not having to work today David, and that you have a nice Sunday :) It's actually stopping pouring it down here, so I might sneak out for a walk ;)

Great pic Dave, have a good day my friend :)

The CC4 seems to be quite good. I actually sharpened my mates Mora on it with excellent results  I tried making a little angled support/jig for it but couldn't get the angle right
No not working today; sat in reading and listening to the rain/sleet/Force 6 wind whistle round the house.
If you want to visit Wycoller you could do a cross border raid and no one would know :D
Bronte Bus out of Hebden Bridge to Haworth then walk up to Bronte Bridge. Pennine Way to Ponden Reservoir then the 'Bronte Way' which would take you into Wycoller. It's certainly a good days stride out. The only problem is the Bronte Way which runs alongside the River Worth between Ponden and Watersheddles reservoirs is, in parts, a bog, unfit to be called a footpath. But as the moors round there are meant to be open access you could, in theory, just walk over the moor.
Or you could just catch the M4 bus from Keighley to Burnley and get off at Laneshawbridge :D:thumbsup:
Hope you've dried out

Thanks Jack. We have been lucky not to have tornados like Alabama. Tis the season.

Thanks John. :)

Yikes! Yes, we don't have many of those Dwight, our weather is very changeable, but it's rarely life-threatening. Same with the wildlife, you're unlikely to encounter anything more dangerous than an ornery old bull or a truculent farm dog

Good morning, Guardians!
39818146663_1d6fd73095_b.jpg

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.

Great character Vince - like its owner! ;) :D

Good morning, Vince. I like how your stag already looks 10 years old.

The stag is probably at least a couple of decades older than that John! :D

Thanks chaps. Yes Dwight, indeed a grove worn over centuries of use. But if you like that, here's a shot of the surface of the packhorse bridge.

Another fantastic pic David :) Thanks for your thoughts on the CC4  Sounds like you're having a nice day my friend :) That's interesting about Wycoller, I might give it some thought when the weather settles. If I was to go to Haworth, it would probably via Keighley (its a nice ride from Hebden, but an hour's train ride to Hebden from Leeds). I hate it when footpaths get like that :( I've been on the M4, definitely have to think about that too :) Yes, had my cap on, and my Barbour, and I missed the worst of it, all good now, and the sun is out again now (fierce hail-storm 30 minutes ago)!

I had an old Webster's dictionary, but my son took it off to college. Yes, there are still kids out there using a dictionary, the historic value isn't totally lost on this generation.
One of my favorite dictionaries is a facsimile of Noah Webster's first dictionary from 1828. Maybe I will post a pic soon with appropriate knife content.

Maybe winter in Michigan, but not in Texas! Had to spray my yard yesterday for insects after I mowed.

Now my catch-up efforts have switched to "best of page" mode, in which I try to limit my comments to one post per page, the post that I very subjectively find the most "remarkable" on each page. Most of them included below are pretty pictures of lovable lambsfoots! ;):cool:

As much as I love my AC and the new ironwood, I keep coming back to this rosewood as an almost-daily carry. So simple and so awesome.
Joe
@solphilos and @JoeGoblyn, those are a couple of radiant and respectable rosewoods!:cool::cool:
I make sure all of my lambsfoots get "equal time", but like Joe, I think my rosewood is still my favorite.

Stellar sunrise stag, Dwight! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

... My loving wife had lunch with her girlfriend, and went out of her way to Rise and Dine, a Pancake House, one of my favorite places, with a short stack(4). Thank you Dear.

Impressive Ironwood, FBC; congrats!:cool::thumbsup: The grain reminds me of a cartoon crocodile with only its beady eyes above the surface of the river as it stalks its prey!!
Or it could be simply clever product placement, as Barrett suggests :p:D:

These are the two I currently have...

Congrats on the Pere David stag lambsfoot to join your jigged bone model, Senhor José!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

This red habanero ‘rescue plant’ which was basically given to me as a ‘dead’ twig, has been a surprising little producer.

Congrats on the new lambsfoot, Brent!:cool::thumbsup: That ironwood looks sweeter than honey!

Nope it's just about perfect. Of course I'm used to my Wright's large rosewood lambsfoot which wild horses couldn't drag open but even that's loosened up over time.

Thanks for the description of your sharpening stones. I thought I'd give a Lansky Turnbox a go which just arrived this morning.
bd1Er0Y.jpg
Please let us know how the new Lansky set-up works out for you, David!:cool::thumbsup: I've been considering investing in something a little more specialized than the unglazed rim of a ceramic candy dish lid (even though that works quite well for me ;)).

Pin-striped elegance on the rocks, Dwight! ;):thumbsup:

"A family photo"……. I'm a knife newbie...… I came upon the BF site about a year ago during a search for something on the internet..….(I bet other old guys like me will remember when you used to use the "Thomas Register" to find things)...…. Anyway, I bought a knife around that time which started me down the proverbial rabbit hole...…… One very pleasant arm of the hobby is the Lambsfoot group & their thread dealing with that specific knife...…… Being an inquisitive cuss I acquired a Lambsfoot knife direct from Sheffield..... Then another...…..Then another..... And another...…… And now the 2019 Lambsfoot….. So I thought I'd post a family photo for Lambsfoot aficionados to enjoy...…... View attachment 1087143

Alan, you've posted a series of striking pics of your ironwood lambsfoot!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

My ironwood lambsfoot refuses to go into storage with my other knives, and insists on hanging out on my desk or the kitchen table. I don't know how much longer I'll tolerate such insubordination!
