And I'll continue the review afterwards, a little group participation ;)

Ok, long enough, and it was a little tough to sort out too.

It's an image of a Kershaw 1775OR, their OD-1 folder, with a flashlight
shining against the orange G10 scale

What I like about the fact that you can see that track is, you are able
to clean it out, if lint or debris gathers inside, unlike the Junkyard dog style
knives, you have to take them apart to clean out and I've had to do that
a few times, otherwise the lint packs up and prevents the knife from opening
all the way and allowing the lock to engage properly.

Here's a shot with light from the other side;

The knife measures 4 1/4" closed
One thing you will notice from this photo, there isn't a pivot pin showing, which to me,
makes it look even cleaner, a neatly done finish.

There is a roller like mech that allows you to pull back on that to open the blade and
when open, it folds down into the handle

IMG_0268.jpg

so you have the blade and handle an even profile, the blade is made of Sanvik 14C26N
so far, very sharp edge is attainable with it, it arrived fairly sharp, I brushed it up just a little and now it's quite sharp

IMG_0269.jpg

the lockup is by an Integral design, which is for now, quite secure and the blade could use
a slightly thinner edge but it still push cuts ok

IMG_0272.jpg

When unlocking the blade, there is a limiter, much like what Rick Hinderer designed, it
prevents the lock bar from traveling too far outwards, you can see the round piece
beneath the clip, which you can mount tip up or tip downwards on the knife;

So far, I'm liking this knife quite a bit. Of course, most of us will have a liking to a new
knife for a while and then there is the desire for new steel. We'll see how long this friendship lasts ;)

I give it a G2 thumbs up
Thanks for checking,

Thanks Jack, there was a fellow that did a youtube review about the knife
his was a black scaled one, an earlier one I would think and must be there
is some difference as he had a lot of trouble using his finger to open the
knife, while this one is very easy and almost like a switchblade in it's action!

The other part about this knife that accounts for my liking it is the blade shape
it's like a modified wharncliff, with the blade running about straight and then
coming up just a little bit, keeping the point below center, also, the edge
runs right up to the handle with no sharpening choil/notch, I love that it's not there ;)
even a small one will tend to catch in material when you go to cut, this one
you can just take a stab into plastic, cloth or what ever and not worry that it
will get hung up, it'll just cut and the point, well, it's very pointy :)

Gary, you are an amazingly creative guy - you see things a way I wish I could! Nice review - even cooler intro!

Thanks Matt, it's a neat knife, recommend it especially at below $40 is hard to beat!!

Great pic's and review. The OD-1 is one of the best buy's for a made in USA folder. I love the blade shape. The only thing I don't like is the detent is so weak. I guess it has to be in order to use the flipper. If you hold the handle closed with the blade down and just shake the handle the blade will open. Its a fine line to adjust the pivot where the blade opens and the detent keeps it in. I switched the pocket clip to point down cause I was afraid of it opening in my back pocket.

Thanks Robb, on mine the detent seems to be not too bad, but I also
wear it in my right front pocket so the blade is against the side of the
pocket, if it were carried in my left front pocket, I'd worry more about
it opening. I had the smaller junkyard dog open like that on me, it was
tip down and I got a neat slice into my finger and never felt it, just wondered
where the blood was coming from and how I got cut ;) I don't have that
knife any more, figure once it's tasted my blood, it'll want more! :)

I love my OD-1, mine came with a very stiff ball detent that made it nearly impossible to deploy using the flipper, but after pinching the blade and moving it in and out of the detent about 500 times it broke in and became very smooth. It now fires off like a high quality automatic.

Nice review Gary !

I love my OD-1 , the only thing I am concerned about is the lock is not as 'strong' as I prefer and while I have banged it plenty against my bench the lock did not fail... Just paranoia I guess :D

Congrats on a really neat knife.

Thanks guys, been using it a lot the past few days,
such an easy knife to open and no worry of a spring or
torsion bar to snap as I've had those happen before on
assisted opening knives, this one doesn't need it and
opens/fires just as quick or quicker!

Guys at work marvelled a little as I was cutting up some
heavy styrofoam material for some photography I was doing
on one of our machines and needed a section to use as a reflector
just whipped out the knife and click, slice and pocketed it again
all in a fluid movement, sharp she be ;)
G2

Nah, more an edc type knife, the knife I use for leather is still that
custom small wharncliff by Mr Tony Bose, that still rules the roost ;)
G2

I saw that Bose wharncliff in your sheaths and such thread. Great knife and to do great work you need great tools.

Yes indeed Niko, and the OD-1 is working out very well, folks that I work
with are quite impressed and amazed at how well it opens and how sharp it is.
this may be THE one, fingers crossed ;)

Nice, very clear, pictures and informative write-up! I will give this one another look. I am curious how it will hold up over time.

Thanks!

JD

Thanks JD, it's been my EDC since getting it, a very handy size and
nice opening mechanism too, only thing I'd change would be how
thick the blade is near the edge, it could be just a tad thinner
I'd send her off to Tom Krein for his magic, but that would cost
as much or more than the knife itself ;) so, she'll be fine the way she is :)

Ah, at work, just decided to lightly spine tap my orange OD-1 against my leg. It failed very easily. :( I'll post a vid once I get back home.

That's odd, the one I have strikes well with no slipping, but that's not
a test I normally do on my knives anyways, if it was a fighting type knife
I'd guess that would be a more needed test, but the one I have locks
up fairly snug.

Cool! There was also a nice write=up in the German Messermagazin recently. Seriously thinking about this one.

Gary, what kind of edge have you put on this one? A polished edge or a toothy Norton edge. I read you were experimenting a bit with the Norton fine India used dry.
