Think I found the one as far as a mid size fixed blade goes....Got my BRKT fox river today...wow is all I can say, never had a knife feel that comfortable in my hand. my quest is almost over got my perfect folder and what I believe is my perfect fixed blade (time will tell for sure)..next is the chopper..(now I got to get good at sharpening a convex grind, always have trouble when the blade starts to curve.)

Use a mouse pad and sandpaper. It's really quite easy once you get used to it. Also, regular stropping is all I ever do with my BRKT's and Fallkniven F1. If you keep it tuned up, you'll rarely need to sharpen it.

Congrats......

Rescue Rilet,
Hope you enjoy your Fox River Knife. It is my favorite knife ever and the only one I carry.

Thanks for the support guys, I get a little trepidacious about carrying fixed blades when hiking and such...mostly sheeple related issues. I'll need to experiment with different carry options.. so far it seems like wearing it on my belt with the rest of the sheath riding in my back pocket might be the way to go.

congrats riley... those fox river's are great knives... i opted for the northstar instead...:o

Now youve got the barkie bug for sure!! Glad you like it, the bravo I scored off of tarmix is by far my favorite blade, along with my psk. I was just beaten out on your fox river, was gonna scoop it up, till I saw you got it. Im sure it went to the better man anyways, as Im sure that it wouldve rode backseat to my bravo. Now you need a matching firesteel!!

Sorry dude didn't mean to step on your toes....I Don't know about the better man thing either...Couldn't imagine doing an ems run as long as you guys do.. I want to kick most of my patients out after 5 min LOL never mind 45-an hr. I feel bad about beatin you out though as a consolation I have a brand new 12 inch tram...it's no barkie bu tis yours if you want it..never been used or sharpened. I got a couple so it's no trouble for me. Glad you're liking your bravo 1

Congrats! Great knife

I'm curious though, since we both hike a lot in Harriman, what negative sheeple experiences have you had. I've always carried a medium-large fixed blade while hiking there and no one has given me any guff (although maybe that's because I'm the one carrying the "big" knife :D) Seriously though the only time people gave me funny looks was when I was wearing a ripped up bloody t-shirt and bloody bandages on my hand.

Holy crap man, that is totally unnessasary. BUT.....I have been wanting one of those trams.... Yeah my transport times suck. Especially psych pts. I have learned alot though, gotta know your skills when youve got no one but you for that long!! I love it though, you really get to know your pts when you have them for that long. Ill PM you my addy if youre absoulutely sure bout the tram. No worries on the barkie either.....Gotta spread em around ya know?

EDIT- NO PICS???

Was doing some bushwacking and I ended up coming out on a part of the A.T. not far from the Lemon squeezer, I came across a few day hikers...LL bean types, I had an f1 on my hip in a pouch style sheath, (pretty innocuous I thought) but the woman pointed and said "oh my god look a knife" her boyfriend or whatever grabbed her and pulled her behind him..as if to shield her from my murderous onslaught....so I shot them both...in my imagination anyway I actually just smiled and said gd-morning and they nervously rushed passed me. I know they are just uneducated I see a blade and think life some others see it and see death, but I'd prefer not to freak people out.

J Williams send me the addy I'll box it up when I get home tonight also should warn you those trams come with like no edge...

I thought so too....cause in my head I was like oh my god look... no knife...I've taken a workmate on an overnight and when he asked what he should bring I said a knife and his response was classic he said "why are there bears?"...I made fun of him for like a year.

love those vic rucks dude, I am growin real attached to my one hand trecker w/ plain edge blade put on by me. Thanks to bear the dog who made me order one w/ all the pics I saw of his!!

THeo? Just out of curiosity why where you wearing bloody rags?? Wow this thread really took on a life of it's own huh?

Its a long and embarrassing story that involved two dogs, a rabid deer and an improperly sheathed Chris Reeve Mountaineer II. I had to slice up my t-shirt to make bandages, I'll tell you about it in person :o

Theo, I look forward to it I've got finals this week but starting next week my sched should open up for the summer.

My question is this, wouldn't carring the knife partially in your pocket violate concealed weapons laws? Maybe you have a CCP...unfortunately I am stuck in one of the 10 stupid states now allowing CC.

Just wondering.
