Hey guys... it's my brother in laws Birthday soon.... this week.
I was asked to give him one of my knives.

I didn't know what to do ! I bought them cause I liked them.
I thought well.... I'll give him a lionsteel that I carried twice

Its nice has micarta m390 steel light weight. I like it 👌 just don't carry it alot.

But.... I wanted to give a spyderco because that's my favorite. But I also don't want to give one away because I'll want a new one or is not made any longer.

Am I being stingy and selfish ? Idk

You gotta upgrade your membership to ask that kind of question, we're not psychiatrists here...

I'll give my general vague advice:
There is no right or wrong decision in life. You make the decision and learn to live with it, so consider the consequences before you do it.

I'll send you my PayPal info, that advice was not free.

Edit: I apologize for the tongue and cheek. I echo my friends below me: give him what he wants, not what you want him to have. Good luck buddy.

This is such an odd request that I'm dying to know more. Not, "Hey, you know a lot about knives -- why don't you pick a cool one for your brother in law?" But, "Would you please give your brother in law one of your knives?" o_O

Assuming you want to follow through, I'd say give him the one you think he'll like best -- and if it's one you don't want to part with, buy him the same knife instead. Absent other input, that lionSTEEL flipper looks like a lovely choice.

My Wife was the initiator on this one.
Because I do have alot of knives in most peoples point of view.

I would like to give him a nice knife that I enjoy but again... they are not easy to get and are rather expensive.

Tbh if given the choice I would get him a military as that's one of my favorites.

I'll go through with it one way or the other.

I would start by trying to figure out what knife he would like, and go from there. It might not be your favorite,or it could be one you can purchase for him.

I assume that he must want and appreciate a nice knife. Otherwise, if he's going to use it to open cans and scrape gaskets, I would buy him something a little more budget friendly.

It sounds like you are expected to give away something that means something to you? Is your BIL even a knife guy? Would he know the value or appreciate the gesture?

Maybe I'm just being cynical, but in-laws don't have the same ranking with me as blood relatives. Heck, my brother/sister-in-law are lucky if they even get a card from me on their b-days.

Don't feel forced into giving up one of your possessions if YOU aren't comfortable doing so. Talk it out with your wife.

Screw that, I'd just buy him one. Or I'd buy a new of one something I have and give him the old one.

Matter of fact..if they arnt knife people, I definitely would not give them a nice knife to start out with, unless you give them a whole story about it and to treat it properly.

I’d say no. Or, give him a cheap knife. If he’s not into knives he likely won’t appreciate a nice one anyway. I e given away a lot of Cold Steel stuff Lites, or for something nicer, maybe a Micarta Civivi Conspirator or something.
