Guitar WIP

Interesting. Thanks for posting that.

So far, it's been fun. More fun than knifemaking, in fact. The knifemaking has become a job, and I think I needed a hobby to balance it out, otherwise I think I was heading for a burn out, you know what I mean?

I started trying to play music 5 years ago. I was getting burned out being around knives 24-7. When I bought my first custom Dobro, I was hooked with the beauty of the instruments. That led me to want to build one. I actually have a couple of orders, but I don't want to make it a job. I want to keep it fun.

Phillip, you are in good company. WT Fuller was a friend of mine and a good friend of Harvey McBurnette. WT told me that Harvey made a better guitar than he did knives. Good Luck with your "hobby"

I can't glue anything together until I get some more clamps, but I do have the pieces for the heel block ready to go. I'm arranging the pieces to have a herringbone pattern, which I think will look pretty cool:

I'm also planing down the headstock to 1/2" thick, which is what it needs to be to accept the tuning machines:

I need a new plane, too. This one is broken, so there's lot's of sharp points to dig into my palm.

I got the head stock reduced now, and the heel block glued together:

My very primitive "shooting board", used to get the seam between the two pieces of the top perfect. They aren't perfect, but they're close.

Wow, you're not messing around... nice work on the truss rod. Are you going to slot your own fret-board or buy a pre-cut one?

Damn, Phillip... this is amazing! Thanks for taking as many pics as you are... its really enjoyable to sit back and watch all of this unfold.
