We here in the Schrade Collector's forum are pleased to announce part three of our Hurricane Katrina relief pledge effort. So far, this effort has pledged $1,430 for aiding those displaced by the hurricane that hit our gulf coast, with the donation pledges sent directly to the Red Cross or Salvation Army by the donors.

As before, the items listed here will be pledged against on a bidding system, with the person placing the highest pledge for each item receiving that item. The members of this site donating the items pay the shipping to the winning pledger, so none of your pledge goes toward either purchase of the items, or shipping. You send 100% directly to the relief organizations.

The first item is a Schrade 285UH Pro Trapper knife. This Staglon handled knife was produced from 1969 through 2002. It has a Schrade+ Stainless 3 3/16 Turkish Clip blade, and 3 1/8 spey blade, 3 7/8" closed length. The last MSRP on this knife in 2002 was $34.95. Current value... you decide!

The second item is a metal Schrade Cutlery display sign 3 3/4" high and 19 1/2 long. I believe these were mounted across the top of point of sale displays. A very unique item and sure to set off a wall display frame of your favorite Schrade knives.

The third item is a Schrade 108OT Junior knife. This sawcut delrin handled knife was produced from 1964 through 2004, making it one of the longest produced Old Timer patterns. It has a 2 1/16 clip blade, a 1 1/2 pen blade, and a 1 5/16 sheepfoot blade, 2 3/4" closed length. Last MSRP on this knife in 2004 was $31.45.

The fourth item is a really nice black Imperial Frontier Stockman #329. Overall length of 3 1/4", 2 1/4" drop point, 2" pen blade and a 1 1/2" sheepsfoot. MSRP about $25.00 I believe.

The fifth item is a Schrade Uncle Henry LB5 Smokey Lockback knife. This knife has brass bolsters, Fibron stabilized wood handles, and a Schrade+ stainless 2 7/8 clip blade, 3 3/4" closed. It was produced from 1982 through 2001 and the last catalog price was $55.95.

The sixth item is a Schrade Old Timer 6OT Golden Bear Lockback knife. With brass bolster, a Schrade+ stainless 3 3/4 clip blade, 5" closed. It has sawcut delrin handles with a brass thonghole liner. This knife was produced from 1995 through 2004 with a last listed MSRP of $51.95.

The seventh item is a Schrade SK3 Knife Care kit. It is new in the package and includes oil, stone, cloth, and an nstruction sheet. The only date I find for this item is 2000, and it listed for $5.99.

The eighth item is a Schrade Old Timer 158OT Guthook Skinner knife. It has a 3 1/2" drop point guthook blade, 7 1/4" overall with a fixed full tang, nickle silver shield and rivets on a brown sawcut delrin handle. Made from 1988 through 2002, the last MSRP was $41.95. This one comes with a PH2 sheath (not the one shown in the picture) which fully encases the knife, eleminating the need for a keeper strap, much like the original sheath provided with the 156OT Lil' Finger knife.

The ninth item is "a Canal Street Cutlery model #113313. It has a D2 stainless steel blade and amber stagged bone handles (with Canal Street Cutlery shield ). It is an 8 inch Drop point hunter with a beautiful brown ( Made in USA ) leather sheath. Nickle silver bolsters, with a polished marked side blade. The retail on this knife is 117.50. I want to emphasize that this knife is made in the USA the old fashioned american way one at a time with pride and integrity. For those who have not handled these knives it is difficult to understand what this means in a tool until you have held one in your hand. it also comes with the original Canal Street Cutlery box with the label and all paper work. In addition this knife carries an unusually low serial number of 034."

The members of the Schrade Collectors Forum initiated the "Gulf Coast Assistance" endeavor to provide help and support to the folks affected by Hurricane Katrina.
This is NOT an auction, the group IS NOT collecting any funds, and THE ONLY beneficiaries of this effort are the RED CROSS and the SALVATION ARMY. The products offered to the top donations are donated by the forum members, and the shipping is paid by the donator.
Less than 10% of the viewers (numerically) post a pledge. This means that a lot of those who view this endeavor (and the prior ones) do not make a pledge or donation.
The majority of those who have made a pledge or donation (honor system - no-one is looking over your shoulder or checking on you - it's your own Karma) are the regular members of this forum. Thank you to them!
And, thank you to the visitors and guests who have also made a pledge or donation, as well as the owners/operators of bladeforums.
It's not about "winning an item", it's about helping the NGOs with assisting the victims of the Hurricane and the aftermath. Each and every pledge or donation is worthy and worthwhile making, regardless of size.
We also need more folks to make a pledge or donation.
Please tell your friends, associates and other organizations about this, and encourage them to drop by and make a pledge/donation.
The first go-round saw $665.00 raised and the second saw $765.00 raised, a total of $1,430.00 from a handful of folks is a huge gesture - let's get more people involved and really increase the amount of funds that are pledged or donated. Tell your friends, family and associates.

And we're off!

Unfortunately, my overage check for my financial aid isn't going to come in until mid October, so I cannot donate any more during this round, but I wish Codger and Delander the best of luck in Round 3 and hope that you will all please donate something towards this effort, even if it's only your good wishes and prayers.

Thank you all.

Hats are out to all who I believe are supposed to get them. Items I donated are all sent. ( Glenn your knife is on the way with a couple of surprises ) I have donated a second 158 same as last. That is an interesting sign that was donated I wonder where it came from. Hats will be offered this round only to those who have not received one in a previous round or in the past. I sent a bunch but some of the regulars declined since they had them. If I missed someone just let Codger know. Codger I sent you some 897 UH as you requested ( they are broken so that you can do whatever it was you wanted to do with the parts ).

However I have saved the best for last. I had to go to Ellenville today so I stopped off at Canal Street Cutlery while there I mentioned the blade forum effort. At this point let me say that I am not real good at soliciting funds. I once used to collect for a bookie in my youth but other than that I really never liked to ask anyone for any thing. In this case I didn't have to as soon as they heard of what was going on they asked what they could do to help. I sure hope some of you have saved a couple of bucks for a rainy day donation. Now i want you to realize this was the owners of the company that I was talking to no meetings no discussion no excuses and no waiting. Just here take this knife on behalf of all of us at Canal Street Cutlery. You may not be used to a company doing business this way since it is rather old fashioned you see it is the way America used to do business. When you reached out your hand you got a hand up and you got it right away you didn't have to wait on hold while the bosses decided what they wanted for lunch.

This knife is a model #113313 It has a D2 stainless steel blade and amber stagged bone handles (with Canal Street Cutlery shield ).

This is a rare opportunity to do a good deed and get rewarded for it with a exceptional knife. In addition this knife carries an unusually low serial number of 034. NOTE I have attempted to show the amazing finish of this blade in the pictures however it is to bright for me to be able to show its true beauty.

As you look at this knife please try to remember that the spirit in which it was donated is the same spirit that has motivated all of us in this project from the beginning. Then I want you to think about any other knife companies, some who were approached and think about just how they responded. Perhapes they yet might. In the mean time personally I want to thank all of you and that includes Canal Street and all its people. LT

Put my $100.00 against the Canal Street Fixed Blade.

I've never done any of my Xmas shopping in September before, but I guess it's time to start now!

I am going to pledge $60 for that Golden Tooth knife. It sounds like a fine
blade.

And add $10 for the knife care kit.

Mike the picture you posted of the 158OT has the regular sheath the one I am offering has a PH-2 sheath which works just as well but is not original it is the same as one in the picture l put up for the first one I donated. LT PS what is an over age check can I get one I am over age for most things.

Yes, it is. It has the Staglon handles and Uncle Henry signature shield.

For those of you who think this is over about 30 minutes ago I got this reply to an inquiry I made from a seller regarding an article I had bought. It kind of says it all.

hi...sorry for the delay, actually, I shipped it yesterday. for some reason, I didn't get any notice from paypal about your payment, and did not realize that it had been paid until I was catching up on my paperwork, THOUGHT that it was unpaid, and when I went to the auction page to send an invoice, it had a 'paid by paypal' notice on it...... I went back thru all my emails, then went to paypal to check, and there was your payment. Again, I apologize, I don't usually wait to check on auction payments, but we have been consumed with the hurricane........ we have both friends and family down there. Ours have finally been accounted for, they have very little left, but my best friend's 82 year-old father is still not accounted for, AND her 4 sisters have lost everything. this is really a terrible time for so many !!
Hope you understand........
Again, I apologize for the delay
Barbra
Hope you understand.

LT that was really something special. I know i'm not done giving and I know
not many others are done giving either.

I love the Schrade sign but have no where to place it.

It really is not that big ( the sign ) . How many do ya need. LT PS that Canal street is the absolute cats. The trouble is that being a small outfit that produces quality there will never be alot of them and a serial of 034 is pretty neat. I really was amazed at there generosity and concern . There is no doubt that one, is the pick of the liter of what has been donated. Del being the gentleman that he is put 100 on it which gives it repectability and while the retail is around 120 the fact is with a number like 034 it will be pretty rare. I will not go against Del He is a friend. But at 100 it is a great deal. No offense Del none of us are in this for anything but getting the job done and I thank you for not leaving a piece of art given from the heart swinging in the wind. You are indeed BIG HEART. LT

I just checked out this fundraiser, and what an excellent idea; to combine our passion for nice knives with helping out people who have lost so much. It has been, and continues to be, heart wrenching to see and read about the devastation on the Gulf Coast. And quite frankly, I am tired of the negativity of blame that's been going on. I understand it; it's just an outlet for grief and anger, but positive action, such as what this fundraiser is all about, is the ticket. What a great bunch of folks here...gives my two Schrade knives more meaning to me now.

I noticed this project was started by a fellow Canadian, so I gotta keep up the Canadian content here, and put up what I can. (I'm over the Rockies from you, Delander, in Nanaimo, B.C.). I don't have much right now, but I'll do what I can.

I will donate $50 on the Uncle Henry LB5 Smokey Lockback. If I get it, it's my daughter's Christmas present, since she was born the same year that this knife was first made: 1982.

Thanks for doing this, Schrade people!

Thank you fixer27 and pocketknife. Any pledge, no matter how large or small is appreciated and furthers our goal of helping to relieve the suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Pledging on an item with thoughts of making a gift of it to someone else is a great idea. Del and others have done that very same thing.

I added your pledges to the first post at the top of this page. It seems an easier way to keep track, so just look at the first pledge update on each page and it will apply to the entire page.

And while I am at it, I'll add another item to the pledge list. MarcA has donated a knife to the effort, but he put it on ebay to draw from a slightly larger donor base. It is a mint 507SC lockback with sheath. It is the "Big Cat" scrimshaw edition, and he requires the buyer to send him proof of winning bid donation to either Red Cross or Salvation Army. If you happen to read his listing, you will note that he has included worldwide shipping.

As I post this, there are as yet no bids. It is a six day auction, and since MarcA posted it as a tribute to the effort his Dad, Delander started here, I thought it fitting that I post the link, which is ordinarily forbidden. If anyone objects to my posting the whole link, I will modify it to just the auction number.

Thank you Marc! You are indeed a chip off the old block!

Codger: Please put me up for $40.00 on the 285UH. It will make a nice mate to my Canal Street Trapper. I already have a Canal Street Drop Point #003 headed this way from Bill Horn or I would be pledging against that one.

Open Arms.....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have stretched this Fund Raising effort to E-bay in hopes of helping a little more, and maybe (hopefully) a few hundred people will see the knife I have put up for auction. Could a few of you guys get the ball rolling to spark the interest in other potential bidders.

I have listed a Schrade 507SC Big Cat Scrimshaw.

Good work Dad!!! Ya done good...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've copied Marc's post to this thread.....

OK,
I don't know how to do the cut and paste thing very well, but I hope you folks get the point.

Oh yeah,
We are off and running on this great donation, as of now.

Thanks Marc...oh, and welcome.
