Damn, Damn, Damn,

If I can't talk Marc into going in with me on this, I might have to sell a "D" !!!

Or, live on bread, beans and beer for the next few months.

But, put me down for the $1,200.00 on that beautiful set.

Del

YOU DA MAN!!! Del, I'm proud of you and after you get that set I'll be proud for you. Bread, Beans and Beer isn't so bad, in fact you probably could give up the bread and beans.

Paul

That's a beautiful set Andy. I'll step up with ya on that one Dad... Just remember I only get 2 big paycheques a year.... lol ;)

I go to work with everything seeming normal and I come back and the whole
thing has went through the roof! :D

Good Job MarcA and Del. :D

The answer is obvious Do not go to work besides it cuts down on time available for important stuff like poker and sampling beverages. You know with Canal street and Andy who is right up the road. Perhapes us northern mountain knife boys can start a little competition for the Tennesee Mafia. Perhapes the North shall rise again. ( sung to the tune of dixie ) OH I am glad I am in the land of TAXES. Hilliarys eye on the White House never Laxes. Im going to stay and I will pay Hip Hip Hooray NY Land.

All kidding aside you guys are great. I guess the further North you go the better it gets. Andy could we talk you into donating a pontoon boat. For those who do not know it Andy is one of the largest sporting goods and boat sales around also as you can see his heart is as big as his business. Thanks for taking the time to get involved I know you are busy and I for one really appreciate it.

Marc I do not know you but I do know your dad and you have every right to be proud just as I know he is of you. Just one question I really hope it does not offend. The only other fellow I ever knew who only got two large paychecks a year was a fellow I met when I worked for the NYS DEPT of corrections. You might say that he was in the banking business ( withdrawals ). I sure hope you have your dads sense of humor. On the real side thanks for caring. LT

LOL

LT, Marc has his own contracting business and renovates houses. A lot more work than the 'banking' business, and, probably not as profitable (in the short term). :-)

Andy is a great guy and, a straight shooter - no pseudo Schrades from him.

The folks here on this forum are all a great bunch. Maybe it's because they crink drown Royal?

Its Canadian you know. LT PS I met a few guys in there who also were also involved in filling contracts ( contractors) so to speak. OH Well ( AHHH FUGET ABOUT IT ) as they say. .

It's all good LT... I'm always at work, most of you guys have the pleasure of leaving work at work... My lifestyle isn't that glamorous.. Trust me on that! I'll be joining my Dad for a few beer, bread and bean dinners... lol

I'm glad to see everyone on this forum come together for this effort.. And it makes me feel good inside knowing that a few more people out there have the same idea that " Every little bit helps"....

After this maybe we could concentrate just as much effort to fighting taxes, or gasoline prices... LOL... It's a good thought... And just so you know, are taxes are far higher than yours in the States... FAR!!!!

Just bringing this worthy cause back to the top

Also, don't forget to drop over to eBay and put up a bid on MarcA"s knife. Looks like the action is a little slow there.

This third donation round will end at 11:00 PM EST on Monday, Sept. 19th. Unless some manufacturer steps forward with a selection of inexpensive items, this third week will conclude out site's effort to gather pledges for the Gulf coast assistance effort.

The 11th item, donated by MarcA, is on ebay. I will add it to the list, but you must bid it on ebay for your pledge. Folks, the bid right now on this knife (shipping included) is only $11.50.

All of the original ten items have now received initial pledges. There are still 3 1/2 days left to increase a pledge on one of them.

......I suppose I could put up an original Schrade tang stamp. It would be smaller one, ( smaller letters) and of my choosing ( if any people show an interest in wanting one ). I never thought about it till this minute. If there is any interest I will also include it in a 1953 Schrade Walden wood display box. I will post a pic if there is an interest. Tang stamp would probably not be Schrade Walden but would be Schrade...

......Tangstamps are an interesting study themselves. They tell as much about
a pattern as a mint mark does on a coin. I collect photos of the various
tangstamps on my two favorite patterns, and they have helped me
establish a crude chronology of production. Changes of wording is the
most obvious, as well as changes in location, but there are minute
changes in the stamps themselves, both in the typestyles, letter
spacings, and even wear. Tiny chips and cracks appear as they become
worn and the letters round. Sometimes these defecta fill in with dross
and make error stampings where an "O" has no raised center, or a pair of
letters run together. Occasionally an error tangstamping will be seen
that slipped by QC with a letter or number missing altogether. To have
an original tangstamp die to display with your favorite knives would be
a collector's dream. What say ye members? Do we hear an "aye"?

P.S.- Sorry, I could not bring the pictures forward.

With Sheathmaker pledging on the UH, I'll pledge 15.00 on the 1080t.

And 15 dollars on the 158OT, I just got one and love it, someone really
should pledge more on this fine kife and sheath combo.

That puts me right at 100 dollars for this round and that is my budget.

Good luck

I just put a reply in part 2 with some pics. Part 1, 2, 3, Hell this is getting confusing. Let me know if there is any interest in the tang stamp and display box. LT

OK,

I'm having a glass of wine (or is that whine?...just kidding LT) and like the cheap date that I am, my defenses have weakened.
Therefore:
Put me in for $15 on the Imperial.
Oh heck, put me in for $10 on the sign, as well. I don't want it to feel lonely.

My donation this time will go to the Salvation Army.

Bill

Fixer, El Lobo, LT632ret, Delander, all of the pledging members and donors, your generosity is outstanding. Through these pledges you, WE have made a difference for somebody in great need. No doubt Uncle Henry is looking down on us smiling because the heart and old fashioned values his company, ethics, and products embodied live on in the few that proudly proclaim themselves Uncle Henry's Lost Souls.

Here is one example of what I was describing about the tangstamps. Look at the lettering in SCHRADE closely. Now, these dies are very expensive. It took a die maker a while to make each one. And each one will only make just so many impressions before it is too worn to use. Look particularly at the letter "D". Do you see an oddity? Most of these were made by hand the old fashioned way, by material reduction (removal), with the diemaker looking through a loupe as the work progressed. Then, when the lettering stood proudly enough from the background, it was polished, and then annealed to a RH much harder than the bladestock it was intended to stamp. This hardness also made it more brittle, a necesary tradeoff. A proud letter could actually crack free partially or totally from the die base. When that happened, as soon as it was noticed, the die had to be replaced, just as with coinage.

Mr Levine (withhold comments please) recently posted an illustration of the need to establish baselines in order to know what was a normal production design and what was a varient, or an altered item. Rich has gone to great lengths to explain this here in this forum (most recently showing a repaired knife). Well, by examining as many tangstamps of a particular model as possible, and cataloging them, one can roughly establish a timeline for the manufacture of a particular pattern. It is not unlike forensic science.

Hi Guys,

I am an occasional reader/poster here, wanted to help out in your great efforts for hurricane relief. I have made a max bid of $35.00 on the Big Cat knife on eBay, the current bid is $26.00. Also please put me down for $15.00 on the #2 Schrade sign (sorry El Lobo) and $20.00 each on #3 and #4 (Sorry El Lobo again and fixer27). I will make my donation to the American Red Cross.

Again, thanks for everybodys efforts!

Good Show Slufstuff, it seems that I am destined for the 158T. Make my
pledge $30 on that little gem.
