Muskrat man, you are correct. I doubt, however the letter was made on the die that way. It looks to me like a late strike from a cracked die, and perhaps the letter broke completely off after this strike, or even after a dozen or hundred more. The dies, no matter how identical they appear to the naked eye, are almost as individual as fingerprints, more so after they have been worn or otherwise damaged.

Codger

Lobo has declined to pledge on the Schrade tangstamp die, feeling it is worth considerably more than he can pledge. He has asked that his pledge be kept and moved to the "no item" catagory. It is a one of a kind item folks, not to mention the antique knife box that comes with it.

Thank you again for the pledges Slufstuff and Redshanks. The UH/OT book is a great reference on those modern Schrades.

Slufstuff,

No need to be sorry, (sniff, sniff :( ...just kidding :D ), welcome aboard, and thanks for the donation...

Bill

Codger, the tangstamp dye is great, sort of like the knifeknutts ultimate
cocktail ring, but speaking for myself and my budget I must pass.

(I think the hitman from Visa is knocking at the door right now  :D )

Too later fixer27, El Lobo has beaten you to it....unless.......

Codger

Seriously, I know the feeling. I'll soon be typing on the computer by candlelight.

Just bringing this worthy cause back to the top

Also, don't forget to drop over to eBay and put up a bid on MarcA"s knife. Looks like the action is a little slow there.

Not any more :) 'crumplehorn132' is me BTW.

I just recieved another item donation from Robert Clemente. He is donating TWO copies of his book to the GulfCoast Assistance pledge drive. O.K. guys, this is the one you need. It is the best resource currently for Old Timer and Uncle Henry knives.

"A CATALOG HISTORY OF SCHRADE KNIVES (Uncle Henry and Old Timer) . A handbook compilation of information and research taken from published product catalogs from 1953 to 2003.

This handbook is unbound and punched for a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" notebook, complete with table of contents. Over one hundred pages, current as of late 2003. This is the third edition, fifth printing. It is also available as an "e-version".

From Robert:

Each page is devoted to one model. All UH and OT models ever produced and run in the regular shortline catalogs are represented in this 100 plus page handbook. I have chosen a 5.5” x 8.5” notebook format to allow greater ease in using this reference tool and to accommodate future updates and your personal notes. The many included features take the guesswork out of the research on any of these knives.

The dates of manufacturing and production
The prices of the knives through the years, starting and ending
Statistics such as closed lengths and blade lengths
The weights of the knives and the sheaths
Appropriate manufacturing nomenclature such as steel and handle materials
Relative value guide, price at end of production and selling price as of 2003
Model tracking and cross pattern manufacturing with comparisons
You will also enjoy the catalog “stories” and insights for each knife

Each page is written in numbered, outline format, in precise, easy to understand language and accurate dates. The book has recently been edited for content and format and is accurate up to 2003. You may obtain the book in hardcopy, on heavy stock paper with 7-hole punch ready for your notebook, mailed directly to you. On this offering, I will also include electronic transfers (or floppy discs by request) of pictures of each of the models.

Item #13 Schrade Book
Item #14 Schrade Book

Codger ( I am not a Schrade knife expert, but I play one on the internet!) :D

Hey I never even thought of that ( Good idea Bob) I will put up a ( second edition soft cover ) copy of my book The collectors guide to Switchblade Knives. I will if the donater ( if there is a donater) wishes personalize it ( with whatever they would like within reason ) I will also sign it with the same signature that I put on my monthly checks to the Phone and electric and other companies that I receive bills from each month. Yes I own all the knives in the book . I will also put up a copy of my CD which is different from the book ( the book is a historical and price reference. The CD is a virtual museum tour of my collection of switchblades which has grown since the CD came out ). These are to be two separate items.

Now I realize that our little band of Schrade a holics are getting thread bare. However I must in all humility ( spelling? ) say that this may be the opportunity of a lifetime. You should be aware that my writings have been compared with Ernest Hemmingway. Oh wait a minute it wasen't my writing it was my drinking that has been compared to Hemmingway.

Frankly I do not mind the donations but the postage is killing me. Just kidding . By the way usually the display box that the tang stamp will be in goes for between 30 to 50 dollars by itself ( this is the original type box used in the 1953 esquire magazine ad) and to own a tang stamp is among the rarist of knife memorbilia and to own one from Schrade even rarer . The tang stamp I picked was Schrade NY USA SS102. If memory serves ( I am to lazy to look it up that was a fruit knife ). If so the doaner should still be able to find one around and would then have the knife and the tang stamp. Neat huh. Where else ya gonna find one. OK here are all the pics. OK codger ( as they used to say on hawai 50 BOOK EM Danno.) LT PS I am adding the pics of the tang stamp since apparently there is some interest in it.

Well, Ebay has pulled the listing fo the 507SC... Apparently I was in violation of some rule they have for fundraising. I need a letter from each organization to state that I have permission to do so...

I'm not sure as to who the high bidder was before the auction was pulled.. If any of you have the answer for me I would appreciate it..

Sorry Fellas...

Codger,

As you know, I've made my donation for this round. But I feel that it may be sorta lowball for the value of the tangstamp and the case. I'm not in a position to increase that right now, as I've done this in several places and I'm at my threshold. I wouldn't expect it to go for a lowball bid. So, just add this one to the general total, as I wouldn't want to win it at that price and I'm glad to help again.

C'mon folks fire up, there's still nice stuff and still time to help.

Bill

I'll give up buying my next knife, the Salvation Army needs it more than I do. Put me down for $30.00 on #13.

That tangstamp is tempting me like a..... well nevermind. But all I could do
is shuffle around pledges and that would not be in the spirit of the pledges
so I must pass.

Codger and LT; I just returned from a day at the Spirit of Steel Show in Grapevine,TX. On the drive back (having looked at some vintage Schrades and a HUGE collection of push button knives), I said to myself. "Self, you should contact Codger and find out how to get that Clemente guy's book, and while you're at it you should see if you can get LT's book too. Then I come back from the show and alight at my computer and find all this new information.

Now what's the difference between Clemente 13 and 14. As a novice Schradeophile do I need both. Nay...can I afford both?

LT: I assume the second printing contains the same information as the first printing and the only reason there was a second printing is because they ran out of books....Yes?

If there is sufficient information forthcoming from these two ICONS then I will for sure bid (and attempt to get them)

Thank you kindly for your attention.

Paul

PS LOBO, see what you drug me into? I used to be happy when I couldn't even spell Scharde.

Double PS: Codger I got the knives form part 2, and the pin...thanks...BUT I DID NOT GET MY GRAPE STEM!!!

Triple PS Is this the same Clemente that pitched for the Black Socks?

Paul,

Item # 13 and item #14 are the same - two books donated by Mr. Clemente - I recommend this book.

Del

Codger: Put me down for $15.00 on the remaining Clemente book, and $15.00 on LT's book. That make's $70.00 total for me this round and it will go to the Salvation Army come Monday morning, win, lose or draw.

Paul

Another PS Thanks for the recommendation on the book, Del

Yes they ran out of books. Same junk ( er I mean information). Actually they brought the retail down from 50 to 40 when they went to soft cover. Take a look at the tang stamp you can mark your own grape stem or vine if you are in TX. By the way the reason I picked that stamp is that it is fairly easy to get the correct knife to go with it. In fact check out 6561458798 it is a strange world I just ran across it. Any old rare autos at the show? LT PS I JUST WUV OLD AMERICAN SWITCHBLADES.

Sheathmaker, #13 and #14 are two copies of the same book. You only need one, unless you pass along Schrade disease to a friend as El Lobo has done. Then we might have to contact Robert about a case lot. I too need LT's book, and I am ashamed to say I have not acquired one yet. Superfly locks, pushing buttons and pulling balls, switching blades, it is all foriegn to me.....so far. But I feel like I am missing out on a great deal of early innovation in knife design just because I was born too late to walk into a mom-n-pop and buy a nice knife like those, or even be given one for Christmas. I understand there is a lot of Schrade related history in there as well.

Codger

Paul, Redshanks has pledged $30 on one, and Slufstuff pledged $15 on the other. I entered your pledge on LT's book. What do you want to do?
