OK, so once again being new, Inhit my first large Gun Knife show this weekend and there's this guy from Miami, Fl - P&C Custom Damascus Knives and Leather, he's got some really nice looking stuff, very custom with lots of arsty filed groove work on the back of tang, all Micarta Scales, 6-8 pins per handle, some huge blades and they are priced 100.00 - 350.00 ea including what appears to be a very nice well made leather sheath, I'm thinking China..... How can someone custom make that stuff in that price range ? He claims he makes and folds his own Damascus, (25 ton press) he said, I'm scratching my head and thinking .....damn those china copies are good !!!! Any thoughts ?

Non stainless damascus is not super expensive to make, but it is a skill and it takes time to make it. File work takes time too. He sets the prices on his labor and could easily sell this kinda stuff for that price. Ask for pictures of his shop or something. Most makers love when people take an interest in what they do and how they do it. Doesn't mean they will tell you their secrets, but its not hard to tell when someone is the real deal.

I met him today. He seemed to know his stuff, but I am new so I am not one to judge. He talked to me for a while, explaining the process a little. I took pictures of his knives. I would post pictures of them if you want to see. He also showed me a knife someone else made, it looked awesome. It wasa blue handle, kukri and fighting knife in one. I have a picture of that as well.

Learning is part of the process. Most of us make mistakes and sometimes we make extremely good choices and don't even realize it at the time. Going to the shows is great. Do what feels right to you now. Buying knives (firearms, or any potential collectable) is a learning experience and the journey is a lot of fun. Knowledge is crucial.

I would shy away.

Like for example, at ECCKS 2013, (East Coast Custom Knife Show), there was a "custom" maker who had a nice little stand full of interesting knives. Among them was a double bladed folder, much like the Kershaw Double Cross.

One steel blade, one ceramic blade.

$100.

Made in China.

A lot of makers make their own carbon Damascus, which can be created fairly inexpensively. We have a maker that sells Damascus slip joints of excellent quality for $200 and less right here on the exchange!!
You don't want to assume, ask for pictures of the shop and the process. More than likely he will quickly engage you in a long conversation

P&C Custom Knives is a fraud.... He claims to "make" his knives, but in REALITY... the blanks are from Pakistan. I don't know if the sheaths follow suite, but I am sure they do. I asked if there was an alternative for the sheath; because I did not want the P&C stamp on it and he said that every sheath was "custom" for the blade. I purchased a "Peter Rambo Style Knife" (P&C = Peter and wive's name?) for $175 at the Miami gun show. Unfortunately after Ebaying "Rambo Damascus" I realized that I paid $175 for a knife I could have purchased for $60 on Ebay.... The ONLY difference is the "skull crusher" tip at the end of the knife vs the machined polished stud included with the knife on Ebay... "custom"... I received a story about the sheath maker, and how he is an 80 year old "saddle maker" and is bothered by special requests.. aka NOT stamping a sheath... so much, bull... the Ebay knives have the same EXACT sheathes.. there is no "master leather worker" behind the scenes; just a bunch of CRAP.... I was swindled and I know it's on me. I should have done my due diligence and researched the knife before buying it, but it is still frustrating to get fed a line on BULLSHIT and fall in the very expensive pit of "trusting what you hear"... oh well, lesson learned, and I hope this post exposes this fucking guy so someone doesn't get stuck in my position. He sells decent products... for two or three times the price.... #fraud #neveragain

That's actually kind of funny. There is a kiosk at Sarasota Square Mall that caught my attention because they sold Spyderco knives. Kind of strange for a mall. Anyways, I went up to the kiosk and talked with a relatively knowledgeable gentleman who insisted H1 was the steel of the future. Conversation progressed and he showed these "one of a kind, custom made knives" and told me the same story about the saddle maker and his knife making son. Beautiful looking knives, could've fooled anyone and nearly did fool me. Except I read this thread when I got home.... The only reason I found this thread is because I remembered the stamp "P&C Customs".

And from what I understand, the gentleman who ran this kiosk was selling these at a gun show in south Florida at the time for a low cost, trying to make me close the deal insisting that the price would jump by $200 if I didn't act while the gun show was in progress because that was the price down there. He claimed the knife's blade was folded some 516 times or something like that.

You might want to check the validity of the Spydercos next time you are there. In for a penny, in for a pound as they say.

Some one was selling similar products with a similar story attached here earlier this year. I passed since they didn't look hand made like they claimed. I have made some of my best deals at gun/knife shows but you have to know what you're looking at. I've scored TI, Orange, Brown and Peeled Ply Militaries for excellent prices but also have been offered blatant or not so blatant fakes of Spyderco, Benchmade Balis, Rolex watches and so on many more times. Only one that "got" me was early on when I wasn't that familiar with Spyderco and I paid too much for a "second".

The knife kiosk at my local mall is mostly mall ninja junk, cheap swords and throwing garbage. He can "order" anything you want but then again so can I.

Does P&C maybe stand for Pakistan & China?

Ok we know that your full of of it bring us all the same knife for $60 I will buy as many as you can provide. Have you even tested the steel? probably not because you dont even use the knives that you buy, Meaning you are a guy that I remember crying about how nice it was and now your posting smack about a great knife at a great price, Guys this character is just a blade idiot. it doesn't matter how good or bad because he wont use it to do anything ever. Try it looser and then tell me about how good or bad it is. Like I told you and all guaranteed for life from us with a great edge what more can anyone ask. Maybe if you were man enough to use one everyone would know your a big wiener.

Great introduction sir. Is it safe to assume that you are P&C Customs?

On the topic of gun shows, having a smart phone can really mitigate the chances of getting burned. Questionable product. Google. Questionable price. Google. Not perfect but it definitely helps.

PC customs needs some customer relations help. Are you saying the blades are yours, or are they made overseas?

Try and give someone a good deal and they spit in your face. I've been making knives for 20 yrs + And we forge our damascus up to 200 layers anything higher and we buy the billet U.S. Damascus only no pakistan and no china, Mostly Penn Damascus in every pattern and if the price is right we have it made with our choice of steels the only reason we sell our stuff at a good price is moves well at lower prices. a few yrs ago when the economy was better we asked way more for my blades, But right now and for the past 3 yrs it is very hard to move anything above 300 dollars, Not to say you cant sell it but it takes much longer to move and my mortgage wont wait. I don't mean to be a jerk but this guy doesn't even know me and is posting lies that could cost me later down the road. We take pride in our knives and even if I had to buy pakistani damascus I would admit it and still sell the knives because we have used pakistan damascus many years ago but we can get the same thing here of better quality and a good price. Any of you can visit me at the shows in Orlando West Palm Miami Ft. Myers and see me in person and I would be glad to help anyone out that wants a nice knife at a decent price and if it ever breaks we will replace it no questions asked. So calling me a FRAUD and saying all those lies without even knowing me is wrong and if it affects my lively hood I get twice as mad wouldn't you?

I would get very mad too.

You should look into getting a Knifemakers membership here on Blade Forums. I believe it is only $65 a year (please correct me if I'm wrong) and it allows you to sell your creations. This is a great outlet for makers big and small to get their products out in view of the largest knife community on the planet. Think about it.

I look forward to seeing your work either here or perhaps in Orlando sometime. Good luck in all your endeavors.

Hey there fellow Sarasotan! My friend was just telling me he saw that spyderco kiosk the other day. I haven't checked it out yet because I hate going to the mall.

Do you by chance have any online albums with photos of some of your blades? I would like to browse them if they are avaliable.

Thanks for your time,
NCCNC
