Thank you.
I hope that I didn't mislead you. When it comes to revolvers, I'm a Ruger guy at heart. I was just trying to opine that the medium-frame Taurus offerings don't seem to get the credit that they deserve. That little "65" that I posted is one of the most fun wheelguns that I own. It reminds me of the Smith 681s of yore. It's heavy and robust and seems to easily handle anything that I can throw at it.
That being posted, the GP100 (*for me) is iconic and, like most Ruger revolvers, CRAZY overbuilt. Your grandkids' grandkids will still be pumping full-house 125gr. magnums outta' that thing when our carcasses are feeding the worms.
I can only comment on a newer Taurus I gambled on. Yeah, I think most know Taurus had had a sordid history for a while, but with my sample size of two (including the PX22 Compact), I'm a little impressed. I'm an odd ball and for some reason, I really like 9mm revolver, no real reason (do I need one?). Well, I saw the Taurus Model 692, a quick swap cylinder, medium frame (7-shot) revolver, my interest was piqued.
What post-Apocalyptic fantasy child doesn't day-dream about fighting their way through zombie-infested America with a handgun that can shoot three common calibers? Enter my Apocalypse Model 692.
Well, after a few hundred various rounds of .357, .38SPL, and a lot of 9mm, I can say I'm pretty damn impressed. Impressed with fit and finish, function, reliability and accuracy. The only complaint are their OEM 9mm moon clips. Simply put, they suck and are fragile (I've broken 3 of the 5 that come with the revolver). The additional investment into TK Custom moon clips quickly remedies that shortcoming (they make awesome moon clips if you need them!).
I added some (I think Hogue) Micarta grips and it's such a pleasurable gun to shoot. I usually don't care for ported barrels (I wish the cut the barrel access slots but let the consumer decide if they want the ported holes drilled in at their own expense), but they actually do tame the more stout .357 magnum rounds.
I know Taurus was the brand where it was often heard "friends don't let friends buy Taurus", but I'm going to at least give a nod do this Taurus medium frame revolver (and the TX22!). I don't hate Taurus and I really hope the company can turn the corner on that poor reputation period. They have a rich history of making high quality S&W competitive revolvers at discounted prices way back in their prime.
