gun shows a good place to pick up a knife?

If you know what you're looking at, you can do okay at gunshows. Gunshows are best for old slip joints. I have purchased knives at gunshows. In fact, my very first custom fixed blade was purchased at a gunshow. All told, I have probably purchased about 10 knives at gunshows over the years and the prices were all fair.

Kansanshooter, make sure you go to Tulsa Nov. 9th for the Wanenmachers Gun Show at the Fair Grounds.
The show in Whichita this weekend was probably around 600 tables at most. The show in Tulsa will be 5000 + tables covering both floors of the SEVEN ACRE Fair bldg.!!
There are many great knife dealers there, and it is fun to spend 4 or 5 hours seeking them out.
There are good deals to be had for sure, as there is some price competion between the dealers. One tip, write the row and location of each down on a note pad, it's not as easy as you might think to navigate back to a dealer with several TENS of Thousands of people circulating around .
Bump into ya there ! Dan.

I buy the majority of my knives at gun shows or gun shops. Costs a bit extra, yes, however I like the peace of mind in being able to handle and inspect the knife first hand. For one it lets me know it's the right knife for me, and for two the vendor usually lets me get the pick of the litter.

Spyderinked that sounds great! I've been disappointed by the last gunshow I went to here in Pensacola, but I don't think I've been to a gunshow nearly as large as that!

Lotsa' junk as noted. Also many items severely buffed. However, I do look for tables with just a couple of knives, and by that tactic got a couple of gray Beckers for a good price and five nearly new 225Q's for $25.00 each.

Nope OUTLANDISH prices.. Only way to get the bang for your buck If to GO WITH knives to trade for guns.. I would suggest NOT ....

At least take your cell phone so you can check the prices online while you are there.

Do this and you wont be taken for a ride.

I find it to be a mixed bag. There are definitely tables with a bunch of junk being hawked, yet there is usually about 4 or 5 tables with some good stuff and 2 or 3 of those with very nice stuff and a good selection. The prices tend to hover between MSRP and internet prices. I got my ESEE 4 without the molle back for $125 which was right between the same model and the with molle back model online. I also got a CQC 7 for about $5 under what is was going for online at the time.

Between my experience and the previous posters it would seem that it all depends on your area and the specific gun show.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Here's my story. I went to a gun and knife a couple of weekends ago and found a mini MicroTech OTF listed at $200. HAHAHAHAHAHAH, yeah right. It was smaller than my pinky. But Gun and Knife shows are just good ways to see the knife in person.

From my experience, not really. The gun show here, the majority of the knives are the $5 chinese gas station knives that they sell for $15.

There are two places that sell ZTs and a couple more than have Benchmade. Two guys have higher end knives like CRK, Strider and MT.

All of them though are more expensive than online.

It's a good way to test drive some knives, find the one you want and then order it offline when you get home.

bull shoot. I used to sell at the Orlando Florida gun and knife show a very long time ago. we had people out there selling the hand made knifes/Microtech knifes/Benchmade knifes and any other brand knifes you could think of. oh yes we had the cheap $1.00 knifes too. They had dealers selling guns starting at $100.00 too. I hate to be going to your gun show the way you are talking about it.

It's both yes and no. Sometimes luck is on your side.

But first things first! educate yourself on knockoff/counterfeit knives on the market. Gun shows are a good place to get had on counterfeits.
