Gun Talk-Anything that goes Bang Anytime!

Some stuff from my old job-the M4 was a blown barrel I chopped at the 203 cut, rethreaded and opened the gas port a little. With a regular buffer it ran at 1200rpm-only had one mag that could keep up. With a heavy buffer it settled down at 900 or so and ran like a top. The kalashnikov (her name was Lois)is a Tabuk, stock chopped 2" (so I could reach the controls in armor lol) and spacemarined out so Big Army would look twice at the really tan dude with the AK before they lit him up...

really awesome posts guys, love this stuff; post more plz; really cool m4 jw

Wow Tinkerer! a 30-06 pistol?!? Your real name must be Ahhhhnold! No seriously what is it like shooting one of those. It appears to be about 8" bbl? With the long wood, it is almost like a extra short paratrooper carbine with the folding stock missing. Cool and looks like a lot of fun to make.

Actually, the barrels on this one are all 18" long. With the grip about 5" from the rear of the gun, flip is not terrible, but you need a good hold. Most of us shoot from a bench or bipod anyway. When you're hunting, you rest the fore end on a branch or pack for steady shots. Record to date is one of our shooters shot an antelope at 800+ yards with a 6.5X284.

Yes, it's yet another addiction.

You think this one is pretty, you should see my burl walnut 308. Or my laminated cocobolo 243.

Wow. 800 yards with a pistol! The terms "trigger control" or "surprise shot" come to mind. Ham fists need not apply, that is one pistol that takes proper technique to reap the rewards. I remember when Savage released that model. It was the same year the released their scout rifle concept rifle to compete with Col. Cooper's original design.

I remember the Savage pistol had a poly stock on it. Is that a aftermarket stock? Do you need to use pillars in the stock or did you glass bed? Sorry for all the questions, I just love Savage arms and have been a huge fan since my first Savage. I got a Savage model FP110 in .308cal for my 14th bday from my gram. Yup... My gram is the best! Lol... She got me a Norinco Mak90 for my 18 th bday. Anyway... Your Savage rocks bro!

Excellent idea for a thread:D

I love that it started off with an old Ithaca 37. Like Heber, I'm a lefty when it comes to long arms and usually shoot pistols right handed. A very kind forum member sold me a well cared for Ithaca 37 DSPS. 20" barrel, 7 rounds in the tube, and old enough to slamfire:D Even though it's meant for police work, it still has the hunting scene engraved on the side:D

I debated on what gun to carry today. I settled on my boring ol' FNX-9 since it's so comfy and reliable. I stuck my "always gun", my M&P Bodyguard in my vest pocket. I decided that it felt a little too off balance, so I added my trusty little LCP to the other pocket for a New York reload. When guns weigh less than a heavy folder, why not double them up;)

I've bitten by the Traditional Folder bug, so I packed my lovely Laguiole folder that Andy Roy of Fiddleback Knives gifted me several years back. Pretty sweet little set up for the day:D

My irrational carry gun is polished stainless 4 5/8" Ruger Vaquero in .357. It's heavy, it's low capacity, it's only single action, etc etc etc. However, it rides so nice in modified 1911/M9 Tanker shoulder holster. I love those old single actions and I shoot them well. It needs new grips. The black hard rubber ones are fine, but it needs wood or stag or something else.

Jake, I'll let you shoot my .357/9mm Blackhawk with it's Walnut grips, but you can't keep them. People have tried to talk me out of my walnut grips. Buy your own dang it!! LOL.

Love them convertable Rugers!

I agree - I have a consecutive serial# pair of stainless Vaqueros with interchangeable .45 Colt and .45 ACP cylinders - they were part of a special run made for Davidson's. Even with the rudimentary sights, they are impressively accurate!

Man, I would love to have an Old Army. Too bad front stuffers aren't as popular:(

I hear you Jake, there is something so calming about shooting cap and ball guns. Good times, good conversations with good people. The giant clouds of smoke only add to the appeal.

18"-heck, the barrel on my scout rifle is the Col. Cooper approved 19", in .308. I was thinking it was a 14".

Give me some time Jake, I got some wood and a Vaquero, maybe I can whittle something out.

Mine is a Birdshead but the bottom of the grip is the same as a standard Blackhawk and I got one of those too.

I've done it before, I'll see if I can do it again. They can sometimes be a challenge and I'm weak at the moment but maybe I've bottomed out and will now improve going forward.

Hey Bawanna, you have any 1911 exotic wood grips for a full size non bobtail? Just the standard size. I'm always looking for nice wood.

Don't have much made but I have lots of wood, out of stabilized stuff which I really like.
PM me with what you want em to look like and I'll try to whittle some out.
I'm down on the mat right now, have been all weekend but I'll either die or get better soon. Not sure which would be better at the moment, my body hurts just to type this.

No whittling for a day or two for sure.

I want to build some for a certain Ruger Commander that lives semi locally too.

FYI I run bobtailed grips on some of my non bob tailed 1911's, they work great, look great too. I sometimes cover up the mainspring housing pin, sometimes notch for it, or sometimes just bobtail the grip.

Try to stay different ya know.

Take care of yourself there, my friend.
Smoke and positive thoughts because being sick is the pits.:)
