Gut shots. Maybe off topic.

I noticed on CNN today the sniper or a copycat shot some poor devil coming out of a steakhouse in VA -- gut shot. Part of the guy's stomach is gone, pancreas gone, spleen gone and the bullet not gone.

I've always hated gut shots. When I used to hunt I got both sick and angry if the prey didn't go down dead first shot. Gut shots were intolerable and still are.

I'm a Buddhist and it's against the rules to kill anything but if I had a chance to take this sniper out personally I'd do it without a second's hesitation and let the chips fall where they may.

I have to agree. I carried it a bit farther, when I had the bar/lounge/pkg store, about drug dealers. If I had a special liscence 007 type, wouldn't have a qualm about doing in drug dealers.

Don't know much about gut shots but they sound relly nasty. What sicko goes around taking pot shots at people like that. Make me sick.

God bless all the families that have been affected by this bastard.

Agreed. But what makes me sick is that now some politicians are starting to rant about more gun control. Especially that lunacy about "finger printing" guns. As if a murderer will obligingly walk into a gun shop and buy a gun that can be immediately traced back to him the minute he starts killing with it. Yeah, right... :barf:

I think perhaps we could train the populace of the US to actually be able to use the guns they own. Like a firearms training. If everyone were armed, terrorists and criminals would be out of the threat business. Take it a step further, and take your neighbors out to the painntball field and do small unit tactics, line of fire, etc.

So, a Guy walks into bank to hold the place up. He shoots the guard, then gets capped by like 10 people.

Burglary and robbery would only be possible with a small army. No longer worth it.

Violent crime would be marginalized, because the fear that those folks feed off of would no longer be present. We'd (ideally) all be assertive, confident, well armed moral citizenry.

Okay, you say, sure we just armed "Dangerous Person X" with a gun. Now he can go on a killing spree. I answer: At least now his potential targets are equaly armed and dangerous.

Reasons this might not fly in reality-- People (Govt?) don't wanna pay teachers as it is, meaning they don't really want you to learn much, past being a neat and tidy wage-slave. If regular education is in this bind, I'm sure a class like this would never be "cost justufied".

Yep. Me too. I think this makes you the best kind of Buddhist in my book! No senseless killing, no killing for fun or sport--only when what's good and right DEMANDS it be done.

Ferrous Wheel,
You make a good point though your considered opinion is not new.
IMHO as long as there are political agendas gun control will be an ongoing, hotly debated topic and, as such will likely remain so without resolution.
Alaska has a working system that deserves consideration: almost anyone can become a deputy sheriff; as I underestand all taxi drivers are required too...makes for a large armed populace.
About all quick shop attendants are deputies and are visibly armed, all hacks, most truckers and many common folk....needless to say not too much armed robbery or violent crime as a result...nuf said?
Good for Alaska, gives the bad guys a reason to think twice.
Try to get a cc permit in Colorado or many other States...the government / politicians just don't want an armed public, simple as that.

I'm not sure in this case that it would make a difference whether this sniper's victims were armed or not, since he's picking them off from a distance!

Whatever one feels about gun control - I think it would be fairly riduculuous to believe that someone like this would really be greatly deterred by questions of legality of gun-ownership - so it seems mad to think that gun control one way or other would have an effect on such a thing.

What troubles me is that a man can drive about in a white van for such a long time, killing so many people and not be caught!? It makes me wonder about the effectiveness of the law enforcement there.

In any case, on 2nd amend. things, here's an article that caught my eye on the BBC: Girls Only Gun Club

I hate the things this 'sniper' is doing, and I know its been said before but if some citizen were to spot and shoot him, so much the better for attitudes on an armed populace.
As far as that white van not being found, I think thats a big question in a lot of peoples minds. If this is a team of 2 or more people, one could be dropping the shooter off a distance away to another vehicle or the like. If he gets pulled over to be searched, no weapon...its keeping track of all the white vans and drivers that they have already inspected that makes this difficult.

Very frustrating days for the U.S....

FYI, the 13-year-old boy who was shot up in Bowie was also hit in the abdomen, suffering similar damage. Last I heard he was still in serious condition.

I carry every day, and I own Level IV body armor, which I'll probably wear to go grocery shopping tomorrow (it conceals under a jacket). If I'm lucky enough to spot this guy, I hope I can take him out.

The white van is a police generated fantasy. I am sure the witnesses are seeing white vans; perhaps even white vans with ladder racks. But, do these vans really have any connection with the crime? There are white work vans everywhere.

Ultimately, this is going to be stopped by the public. Sooner or later people are simply going to get so fed up with the fear and traffic problems, that instead of ducking for cover, they will rush the source of the gunfire and take the shooter out. Perhaps if we allow the public to arm themselves, it will give the public a sense of empowerment, and encourage them to be more proactive. Or, at least to act as a community. The police have done an extremely poor job of managing this case. Instead of a turned on community they have generated a general sense of panic. How much more helpful it would have been to have had all these people out and about with video cameras.

I rather energies the population, then turn them off by asking them to behaive like some assinine ducks in a gallery. Forget the zig-zag and charge! That should be the message. He who gets to the shooter first earns the right to pull the switch for the chair on national TV.

Can I ad to the list of disposibles. Like rapists and Child molesters. Most of the fathers in this country shouldn't disagree with this.

I hope some one gets this guy. If the law gets him he will probably get a few years and be back out to do it again.

SWAG: how much you want to bet there's a bus stop in distance of each shooting?
Guy probably picks a blind. One where he can have multiple targets all the time.

Then he goes and sits at the bus stop til he can see a white van a block away.

When he sees one coming he gets behind a bush, takes a shot with a scoped XP100 or T/C Contender with 15" bbl., drops the first target of opportunity as the white van approaches, and drops the pistol into a canvas shopping bag and walks away or heads for his car or bike.

A long pistol barrel should give adequate velocity to fragment a bullet. Far as shell casings, he probably picked some up from a range where an AR or SAR3 in 223 kicked some out and keeps them in a baggie. Drops one now and then to make it look like it's a semiauto military style rifle.

If they catch him, I hope they disasseble him using all the various parts of a Swiss Champ Army knife in the most creative ways possible. For say three of four days after he screams his voice out.

:) Have a nice day! :)

One of us said it here but I agree with it whole heartedly:
" An armed society is a polite society"

thanks.
where did you get the body armor, David?

I'll add to the list of disposables anyone who commits human rights violations, i.e. killing, maiming or torturing, abusinng other human beings for fun or profit.

at least none of have to live here and go through this every day...

everytime I hear about another attack I pray for you and your family Pen

Take it easy !!

I'm not even affected but I want this guy caught or dealt with in the worst way. I can imagine how people living in the affected area must feel.
