Bushmasters are often preferred over Colt. Colt will always command a premium, preban Colts especially. But Bushmaster was the other contractor for the military rifles and most think their tolerances better than Colts as well as their prices.

Munk, they were seafaring and landfaring folk, the vikings. They set up trade routes thruu Russia into asia, jaunts to the new world, britain, iceland, greenland, maintained trade rouutes with the mediterranean, persians, India, etc. They could get snakes anywhere where they traded that had snakes.
He probably used sankes to horrify those folk who had never seen one, making the psychological component of this torture even greater.
It is easy to think of folk in history as barbarous/ignorant or without the means to do what we do today, and this is just not so. People have traded commodities and curiosities across great distances for quite some time. We just do it faster. Little has changed.

That's actually what I'd thought, Ferrous. I just didn't know how far south they went. I can imagine what a poisenous snake carried up into Northern locales would do psychologically to the victim and all those who witnessed or heard about it.

Ferrous Wheel, I got the body armor from www.BulletProofME.com. They make a point of selling to non-police citizens, and they even sent me a loaner police surplus vest while they make a custom one to fit my stick-like body (size extra-small, extra tall
). Not cheap (no khukuries for a while 
), but comforting.
Pendentive, here's an article that goes with munk's comments about the murder rate (in D.C.) being unaffected:

The two guys caught are certainly dead men walking (if Virginia doesn't kill them, Alabama will). I'm not too gleeful about that, though. Certainly they should rot in jail, but I guess I'd like to get some answers from them, which won't happen if they rush to get the needle (like Tim McVeigh). From the rumors I've heard, Muhammad isn't saying anything. Also, granting the State power over life and death makes the libertarian (and historian) in me nervous.

whispers continue about a middle east Islam to domestic terrorist, 'atta boy." Nothing substanciated. Anyone know if the evidence about a middle eastern connection in McVeigh was ever laid to rest? Some people, witnesses, were adamant there was such a connection. ONe newswoman staked her rep on this and lost. If any of you conspiracy buffs have followed this and know the approximate truth let me know.
