This morning I was looking to buy a Spyderco Southard and decided to shop around. I first checked ebay looking for a brand new one and this one was one of the first returned search results:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/spyderco-br...958?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item1c3ea3a79e

I jumped on it, seeing that the seller feedback was 100% positive, and thought I got a great deal. Tonight, after returning to the Ebay page and doing a little critical thinking, I have a suspicion that I may not be getting exactly what I expect. What raises my suspicion is the price, the misspelling of "CTS-240p," and the words "Brad Southard style."

I paid using PayPal btw.

What do you guys think?

I think you need to stop looking to save a couple bucks and shop with legitimate stores that deal primarily in knives, hunting, fishing, etc. The Southard fakes are pretty darn good. It's almost as if someone from the Taichung stole the plans for it and sent them to be made for pennies in China. How else can they get the design, shape, and tolerances closer than almost any other Spyderco so far? Blunt, yes but it needs to be said for others that might read this thread.

Yeah, of course I was looking to save a few bucks, like most people do when they shop. Now of course I wouldn't have purchased one listed for 70$ but the fact that is was listed at 215$ didn't really make me question it until I started thinking more about and looking at prices elsewhere. I have just been holding out hope that I found a great deal on one.. guess not. Thanks for bringing me back to the real world. Bummer

Yes, I will look into filling a claim right now.

edit: apologize for posting in wrong section

"Brad Southard" says it all.
I'm picturing the seller making air quotes with his fingers while he says it. Get your money back.

I will play the devils advocate on the other side. I used to sell as a dealer and still get notices all the time from some of the major distributors on knives on either clearance or at special pricing, A couple weeks ago I received an email with a few Spyderco's on special until they were sold out. 25% below dealer which dealer is usually 50% of retail. They could than be sold by the few dealers for less than anyone else. So maybe that is what happened in this sellers case. I am not saying the knife is as stated but it is possibly legit.

You've been had, my friend. This one is going for between $58 and $80 on AliExpress. When in doubt, always check there first to see what counterfeits are coming out of China. And, never let Ebay feedback be your guide. There are unscrupulous types there who sell counterfeits all day long with hundreds of positive feedbacks.

The thing about this is, some of the dealers on B f sell that very knife for only $10 more + shipping than that eBay price.

In general, with big ticket knives, I like to buy them from professional specialty sellers (like BladeHQ, GPknives, knivesshipfree, etc) not only because of a guarantee of what you're getting, but also peace of mind, potential warranty/returns (sometimes), and supporting those businesses.
Just my $.02, goodluck

My brother showed me this exact one tonight. I told him a new Southard with a CF scale for $215 is simply too good to be true. Then I looked and saw that it's being counterfeited now. He messaged the seller and asked for details on who made the scale, etc and the guy just said they came from a distributor that way and he sounded very UNknowledgeable about knives. My brother then asked him if the knife was legitimate and the seller stopped responding. As if the other things weren't red flags.

Yep, this was totally a huge goof on my part. I should have known better, and I did know better. I was way to hasty and trusting, of a seller on Ebay of all places.

Well it looks like to file a claim on Ebay, you first have to try to work it out with the seller. So I messaged him stating that I apologize for any inconvenience but I would like to retract my purchase and if he or she chose not to accept, that I would file a complaint through Ebay. I am still waiting to hear back. Unfortunately Now that I have most of my PayPal funds tied up in this, I am unable to purchase a real Southard in the meantime.

^ I am laughing at the thought of the seller doing air quotes while saying "Brad Southard" like Dr. Evil in Austin Powers.

Also, thanks for not calling me a big dumb idiot, I know most of you are thinking it.

Typically on ebay..... if a person doesn't have at least 400+ transactions and a rating of higher than 99% I won't even buy from them. Even then I make sure to read their transaction history and what people say about them. With just 23 transactions, for all you know he was the buyer on all 23 transactions. Lesson learned.

He has a few knives for sale. I am always Leary when their profile shows no knife sales and all of a sudden they become a seller of knives.
And do not post actual photos of the knife!!!

You don't have anything to worry about, he will refund your money, because he has no were else to sell his shit & doesn't want to up set the apple cart

Not an idiot , simply learn from this and moved on , we all got smarted in life after we got scammed a few times.

+1

I'm actually even more picky than that on the bay. It's usually 'stores' I buy from on there with thousands upon thousands of positive feedback.
