Guys I sent my knife in to have a custom kydex sheath made for it. just got it back but im surprised because it rubs the blade a lot sliding it in an out. to the point that its rubbing the blade finish away slowly and every time I remove the knife, there is kydex shavings on the blade.. Is this normal or did they do a poor job building my sheath?? The place I went with was highly recommended and I don't know if this is just how kydex works itself in..?? If you own kydex please chime in and give me some input!!

I've never run across any Kydex that tight. Did you send the knife in to get fitted? If not, it may be a thickness variation from yours to the one the Kydex bender used. Thickness variation happens a lot with Bussekin, from one run to another.

ETA: Can't read. Shouldn't be rubbing that much. Most benders wrap the blade in a layer or two of tape to prevent this.

WoW.....The Kydex I have from some Forum Benders has never produced that effect....Perhaps there is some foreign debris in the Kydex that has now imbedded itself and causing the rub. Try rinsing it out with some soapy water and catch the water to look for any debris....As SP pointed out the Kydex guys wrap the blade in multiple layers of tape to allow for easy insertion and removal and not cause this rubbing.

looks like the fuller is dragging ?
PM me or e-mail me maybe I can help you out.
I do not think it was one of mine :)

Wasn't mine ;) but it looks like what Dave said. Fuller dragging...and possible they didn't clean it on top of the fuller dragging.

It looks like kydex particles along the edge, up the blade, as well as the tip(that is from not cleaning it out after grinding it). Plus the fuller drag.

K... whats the fuller? an how do I deal with it? any input is appreciated guys. Thanks!

Why I HATE kydex.

Had a few knives with kydex and they all scratched the blade.

I've ready you could slowly heat it in hot water and wiggle the knife while kydex is slightly gooey.

The fuller is the groove down the side of the blade, sometimes incorrectly referred to as a blood groove. It's there to reduce the weight of the blade without sacrificing thickness, blade geometry, or the integrity of the blade.

I love Kydex especially when it lined.
I had a bad experience with a contaminated kydex sheath that really scratched my knife.
PM coming.

Honestly the maker should make it right for you.
Either by refund or reforming the sheath
Or making you a new one.

When they pressed the sheath the kydex "sunk" into the negative space where the fuller is.
It would be pretty tough to "fix" that one.

Good luck with the Journey.

I wish I could help, but I would make a new sheath, reforming is a big exercise in frustration, tuning is easy, reforming is not.

No David its not, I met you on here about a week after I ordered this elsewhere..

p.s. you should come to some of our get together s :)
They are lots of fun and you could see a Busse or two :)

I used to share this sentiment, but knives are meant to be used and sharpened. Both of which being activities that tend to scratch the blade, I don't really sweat kydex scratches anymore. Especially considering this tendency can be minimized by purchasing well made kydex sheaths and keeping them free of debris.
