Gym shorts and knives

I always carry a knife. One of the harder places/attire is gym shorts. The clip hanging off the pocket looks terrible. I've been carrying my delica inside the waistband and it works really well. What do you guys carry with gym shorts?

No offence but where do you work out that you need a knife on you? I work out in a gym. I guess if I needed to defend myself I would club someone with a dumbbell. BTW what do you do in the steam room? My PM2 would make my towel sag!

I don't carry a knife when I am working out. It gets in the way, and looks a little silly to me. Besides if I need to defend myself in the confines of an exercise facility I can throw a 15lb dumbbell pretty quick.

If I'm wearing mesh gym shorts for a quick trip to gas station or Walgreens etc... I will wear a mini griptilian inside my waistband aswell, I find that athletic shorts don't support the weight of the knife very well.

When deployed, I don't have the option to wear normal clothes. It's utility uniform, or PT gear. I also carried a Delica, clipped to my waistband.

My reasoning behind the choice is the combination of light weight and strong closed bias from the back lock.

I actually live in a very safe town and area. I'm not worried about anything happening in the gym. It's more for the walk to my vehicle. I just wear a lot of gym shorts around the house as well and for walks with the wife and dog.

No real reason needed, to wear a clipped knife in gym shorts. I clip whatever I want to shorts, jeans , swimming trunks or boxers lol habit mostly. I prefer coated black clips that have a little wear on them so as not to shine or stand out. My gym shorts are black.

Self defence is hardly the only reason to carry a utility folder. Knife nuts AKA hobbyists will carry anywhere for the sake of it... What's the chances of him neeing to cut something in the gym? The real question is, how bad would it suck if he HAD to cut something :D

Glad you asked! I wear gym/basketball shorts around the house and I almost always carry a FRN Spyderco Dragonfly 2 clipped to one of the pockets. So light you'll never even notice it!

Whichever folder has been my main folder carry is what I carry when wearing gym shorts. I wear gym shorts around the house at night, and in the morning when taking the dogs out. Lately it's been my ZT 0200. I clip it to my waist band, but OWB. I don't wear gym shorts running errands, and I unload enough trucks at work that I stay in shape while getting a paycheck.

Usually Benchmade small Bone Collector or Mini Grip if there's nothing I'm fiddling with

I jog on trails a lot and always keep a knife clipped on my waistband at about 4:00. I tighten the draw string pretty tight so I can carry what ever I want. To be honest I usually carry a ZT0630, Southern Grind Bad Monkey or a ZT0562CF. None of them have ever come open or had a problem with rubbing me raw. With that said I run about an 8:30 minute mile so I am not smoking up the trails and really jostling things about.

When I wear gym shorts around the house or a quick trip out a Dragon Fly 2 is my preferred blade.

Look, I'm new around here but this seems to be the wrong attitude. I'm not calling you out but it's really a personal decision whether or not to carry a knife and where. The people that want to take our knives (and guns) ask those kind of questions. We shouldn't.

/soapbox off

I wear gym shorts a lot around the house and to the store or gas station. I don't carry a knife when I do. I have a few in my Jeep. I often don't carry a knife even when I'm in jeans or cargo shorts. Same reason. If I'm going out on a hike or something, then I'll carry one. Keeping one in the vehicle or in your bag might be better. I agree, gym shorts don't carry the weight well.

I don't go to gyms, but if I did, there's no way I would leave anything of value in a locker. I've seen too many news reports, and heard too many stories from people about stuff getting stolen from lockers.

Even when people bring their own locks, I've seen some techniques thieves use to easily "pop" open lockers even when there is a lock on it. There's more than one way to open a locker. People might be surprised just how easy it can be.

In a gym, I would keep my valuables nearby at all times in a gym bag (along with water, towels, cell phone, etc). I'd use a duffle bag big enough to be highly visible and not easy for someone to just pick up and walk away with it without being noticed (like some little fanny pack).

As far as the question of "why would anyone feel the need to carry a knife there?", which is a question that seems to come up every now and then, my answer is - I don't just carry a knife for the times when I know I will need it, I also carry a knife for the unexpected times when I don't know I will need it (and I don't mean for use as a weapon). I can't count how many times I've found myself needing a knife at a time, or in a place where I never expected to.

OP isn't talking about knife carry in the gym.

I wear gym shorts almost exclusively. I carry every knife in my rotation in the pocket. I do switch to waistband carry for energetic activities.

I carry a Tasman Salt with a shock cord lanyard ring in a pocket. The H1 steel doesn't give a damn about sweat, the post gym trip is usually soggy, and the gym is in a skanky part of San Bernardino. I take my boys to the Kids' Club a couple times a week when I hit a class, and I have seen lowlifes around there too often to not keep my eyes open and take a few reasonable precautions.

It looked like he was in post #7 when he said "I'm not worried about anything happening in the gym. It's more for the walk to my vehicle". I interpreted that to mean he was concerned for his safety when leaving the gym. But perhaps my interpretation is wrong.

In any event, what to do with ones knife when at a gym is still an interesting topic. :)
