I'm setting up some tests for a review, as I complete each part, I'll add it to this thread, so I don't end up starting a bunch of different threads.

For a quick start, I give credit to DH1, since I believe he mentioned attaching a small washer to the lanyard as a tool to open the handles with.

I took my HEST to a hardware store and found that these 6mm metric flat washers, not only fit the screws pretty good, the center hole is just large enough for 2 strands of paracord to fit through.

Good idea on the washer. One note I would add is to carry two washers in case the opposite screw tries to turn when taking the handle off.
 
i like that idea before then i was using a widdgie bar.... i was thinking of having the widgie bar as a lanyard any way.... but this is simpler. i had to modify the widge bar to fit.... but thats easy.

Good point, and since they are so small a second one might be a good backup!
 
Just wondering, who needs a bottle opener when you allready have a sturdy fixed blade?
The washer is good thinking.
