yep so there i was traveling on business last tuesday, sitting in my brooklyn ny hotel room when i felt a pain in my chest i thought it may have been how i was sitting or the cheesburger i had a few hours before untill i looked down at my hands, they were blue.

so without really thinking i walked out to my car and drove to the local hospital. needless to say the local hospital is a rathole..... so the doctor tells me i have had a small heart attack, but my blood pressure and colestoral is fine, it was some fluke,

so now i am off to specialist again today..... keep in mind i am 37 years old and in great shape..... however this new business and my other existing business have been kicking my butt with stress.....

came home to my ash le though.......

Bro, that's scary!

Not to preach to ya, but you definitely need to follow up with the specialist --- too many stories of guys your age ignoring signs until too late.

Sure glad you're OK.

it was surely the scariest thing i have ever experienced...... have to quit smoking and started drinking half caf coffee.......

hey bro, glad everything is OK now, get all checked out totally for sure, feel better!

Jules

Wow, that is scary! Yeah, now might be a good time to lay off the smokes and cheeseburgers!!

Definitely follow through with the specialist, and do what he recommends.

:eek:Definitely quit smoking, heart attack or not. Hope everything goes well for you.

Crap man, being 34, over weight and over stressed myself, this is scary stuff! I will lift you up in my prayers brother.

You mean the hospital released you after telling you you had a minor heart attack!!
You better get to your doctor today, and be in touch with a cardiologist immediately!!
you may not get a second chance.

No offense, but if you have been smoking for any period of time (Over 5 years) you are no where close to being in great shape. You may be lean, and thats great, but thats only a part of the cardiac puzzle. The major factors are Stress/Genes/Toxins (Cigarettes, Cholesterol,Hormones) and their weightings are different for each individual.

I hope you feel better. See a GOOD Cardiologist when you get home, have an echo, stress test AND heart catherization.

how much coffee do you drink?

most people can handle 400mg's per day and be okay if its spaced out, but if it's all in one sitting, or you taking like 800mg's (more then 6-8 cups), you could be inducing scar tissue on the heart and generally taxing it more then it can handle.

I had a freind who had had one of the physically hardest lives i've ever heard of injury wise (deflated nectrotised lung, broken noses, all kinds of horrible stuff) who was told by a doctor that her 6 pack a day coca cola habit (about 210mg caffeine and a lot of sugar) was causing scar tissue to form on her heart, and she was 22 at the time. in fact, she found out about it because she had a small heart attach while pregnant with her second child.

a whole lot of things can add up to be more powerful then you'd expect :(

good luck, I hope it wasn't anything serious...

It isn't "a fluke" it is cardiovascular disease--a disease of your blood vessels. You can think of it as your having irritatable arteries, like some people have irriatable bowel syndrome (IBS). When people with IBS get under stress or are exposed to certain irritants their intestines get inflamed and they get terrible diarhea. When you get under stress or your body is exposed to certain irritants you get inflamed arteries. The problem is not that your arteries fill up with cholesterol, it is more like getting acne of the arteries. The irritated wall of your blood vessels swell with junk similar to puss and when they leak a little puss inside it forms a blood clot that breaks off and lodges in a narrow spot in an artery in the wall of your heart.

Given your youth you probably inherited sensitive arteries. In my case I inherited it from my mother (she died at 52 of CVD). It turns out that your mother's case history is even more important than your father's. An even more important warning sign is if your brothers or sisters have heart problems. You should now warn your siblings to watch out for heart health.

Things that will irritate your arteries: absolute #1 is smoking--the kiss of death for you, #2 is fried food (maybe not so much that it is fried, but restaurants use really bad oils and reuse them till they are toxic), your own belly fat (fat around your middle, often agravated by stress irritates your arteries, it is actually has a different chemistry), lack of excercise (you need to at least walk 20 minutes every day), high blood pressure (irritates the arteries through the stretching I guess--after a heart attack you want yours down around 115/75)). Black coffee is funny, it is bad for some people and good for others. When they average out their test results it makes it look like it is somewhat OK, but actually it is seldom in the middle--it is either a + or a - not a zero effect.

There are things that are good for your arteries that you should be taking. Switch to olive oil for cooking (replace butter and other oils). Use olive oil based dressing on salads (and eat more salads). Adjust your drinking habits. You should drink about one or two glasses of red wine a day (use one at bed time). Do not drink more and do not drink less--this amount is good for your arteries. Buy a two pound bag of bittersweet dark (absolutely not white) chocolate chips (with 60 to 70 percent cocoa in it). Have about 8 to 10 chips a day at breakfast. The cocoa will make your arteries more flexible in the morning--the time of day when you are most likely to have an attack. Take 2 or 3 fish oil capsuls every day and eat salmon often. Take one baby aspirin at bed time every night. This will reduce your tendency to develop blood clots and lower your blood pressure. Eat nuts to raise your good cholesterol. Eat oats to reduce your bad cholesterol. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.

Make sure that your doctor checks your C-Reactive Protein (CRP) level. This takes a High Sensitivity CRP test. This is a direct measurement of how irritated (inflamed) your arteries are. You want to be doing things that lower your CRP. This is a more direct measurement of whether you are doing the right things for your particular condition. Measuring bad cholesterol (LDL) is only an indirect measurement of one of the things that can irritate your arteries.

Take this serious and change your life or you may end up dead or a heart disease cripple.

PS, you want to take Lipitor or a similar statin drug. They know this reduces your chance of dying of a heart attack by a large percentage, they think it is because it reduces LDL, but it might be for some other reason. Get a flu shot and a pneumonia shot ever year. People don't usually pay attention to the fact, but frequently you die from heart attacks when you also have a serious respiratory infection. This may reduce your chance of dying by something like 10-20%.

Chris,

You take care. Get healthy and stay healthy. I wish you the best.

Warmly,

Mike

Man that is scary. Keep good care of yourself man. We are here for ya...

Chris--go with what your specialist advises. After 30 years in medicine, I find that there's lots of difference in one person to the next, and one physician to the next. Above all, I'm wishing you the best and hoping you continue to be well!
