had a minor heart attack

You mean the hospital released you after telling you you had a minor heart attack!!
You better get to your doctor today, and be in touch with a cardiologist immediately!!
you may not get a second chance.

Hay man, this very same thing happened to me almost a year ago to the date. Went to the ER (it happened at 2 AM...woke me up out of a sound sleep) and they told me that they thought I had a heart attack. I'm no doctor, but I know that numbness and pain down my left arm, combined with what felt like was someone stacking cinder blocks on my chest and squeezing was good enough for me, but since I arriver via EMS, they drew blood, gave me a small nitro patch, and an aspirin. After 4 hours in the ER, hooked to monitors they told me that crap...then comes the "funny" part...They wanted to admit me for a few days for observation! My ass, I had a heart attack, and when I questioned them about the blood proteins, the looked at me real funny. I checked myself out and went home. Made an appointment with my Dr., and the day before the appointment the same thing happened, this time at 3 AM. Another EMS ride to a different hospital, and I was being prepped and was in surgery 30 minutes after arriving.

Three arteries blocked...2 @ 95%, and 1 @ 100%...

Don't wait to see a specialist. Get yourself to a good, and I mean good as in heart surgery capacities, hospital, tell them what has happened, and let them take it from there. Don't waste any time.

Good luck, smoke and prayers...

That IS scary. I'm 55 and overweight, I could stand to lose about a whole person, If I had to stop drinking moonshine and quit smoking crack and crystal meth I could probably handle it but DECAF  , what would I wash my Oxycodone down with? Seriously though the baby aspirin thing is a no brainer. Do whatever it takes. I hope you get to feeling better.

Hey Bro, I wish you well!! See a specialist ASAP. I know, been there done that! I am an LEO and have been a Martial Artist/Instructor for most of my adult life and it was qute a shock for me. On father's day june 19th 2005 I had a heart attack and I was alone in my apartment. I didn't quite realize it was happening to me even though I had responded to these calls numerous times in my career. I had extreme jaw pain coupled with chest pressure. I called a friend and he called a rig and off I went. Next day after testing it was found that I had a blocked artery and that afternoon I had Agioplasty with a Stent.

I didn't think this would happen to me since I was in shape and my cholesterol was low. But I learned that the real killer is stress an I had loads of that! Bad divorce, LEO and shift work plus two jobs. I was a walking time bomb at the age of 46.

I completely changed my lifestyle went back to riding (my HOG on wheels) and learned to relax. I'm lucky and so are you to have a 2nd chance to change things in my life. Please do so Bro and God Bless. I hope others are reading these posts and maybe they can learn from my mistakes and lack of insight.

I had my first heart attack when I was 37.Never smoked but owned a bar for a bunch of years.Second hand smoke damage to my left lung, bad.
Had a Quad,4 way bypass in 1992.
Worked hard my whole life and it is probably what has kept me alive.
A bit of advice.Go see a cardiologest.Today.Do not wait

You will be in my prayers
Randy

Don't wait to get checked out. last year, I ended up in the ER because I was having pains at the knee level of my right leg and was unable to walk, turns out I was having multiple blood clots because of unhealthy eating and lack of exercise.

After I went through this ordeal I sure wish I had seek medical attention when I first noticed some of the symptoms..

Woah! Go get a thorough checkup! Hope you feel better real soon.

im 46 and for the past 15years have been eather in the gym or running and 5 monts ago I had tripple bypass no heart attack just felt like I had the flu and my blood pressure went way up. better now 100% like it never happened it took 4 days in the hospital to find out what was wrong....HAVE IT CHECKED OUT

Holy Oinkin' Thunder!!!!!

Take care of yourself Chris and know that scotch will fix whatever ails you. . . .

Jerry :D

Get checked out ASAP guy. That stress is a killer. Like said before, lean doesn't mean your in shape. Good luck!!!

Many sound observations were already made, some excellent by Jeff Clark.

One serious word of caution: there's no such thing as a minor heart attack. Yes, it may have been minor meaning that not much of your heart muscle tissue died, but it is a major event that means you have atherosclerotic disease of your coronary blood vessels (cardiovascular disease or CVD in short). The disease itself cannot be cured, but can be extremely well treated and in the best case scenario even reversed to a degree.

Quit smoking now if you haven't done so yet or else the cigarettes will kill you. While some people may be able to smoke their entire lives with impunity, you obviously can't. Don't push it, take it seriously.

Go schedule yourself for a stress test, cycloergometry, to evaluate your performance, so you will know exactly where your aerobic capability limits are. Once done with that, you need one hour exercises at 80 % of your maximum capacity at least three times weekly (after about one to two month period to enable your heart to regain some strength).

The diet is also quite significant - saturated animal fats are not your friend. What you need is vegetable prepped on olive oil, white meat, dark fish, low salt. You only drink pure water and yes, do occasionaly drink a glass of good quality wine (like three times weekly, no more).

You need blood pressure as low as you can tolerate it, but by no means higher than RR 130/80 mmHg. If you cannot achieve this with diet and exercise, you need drugs to lower it. As for cholesterol, unless your LDL is low and HDL is high, you need one of the statins (for life).

Unless already done, you need one of the ACE inhibitors as soon as possible. They are basically anti-hypertension drugs, but are crucial after myocardial infarctions as they help remodel the heart muscle tissue. Get one now! I would also seriously advise a small dose of Aspirin (80-120 mg daily) and a beta blocker in a small dose (preferrably bisoprolol 2.5 or 5 mg in the morning).

Put this together and your options are rather good. If you neglect it, they might not be.

And while I know everybody is wise on the Net, I am an MD and am treating such cases often (too often for my tastes).

Cheers,
Rok

P.S.
And, to make your life better and to relieve stress, by all means help yourself to some INFI fix!

Chris do not neglect as others are stating!!

I suffered a heartattack 1.5 years ago myself. Now live with two stents in my arteries and a lifetime on medicin. Was in very good shape myself. It happened to me after Mountainbiking for 110 kilometers. And the race went well. Just after I got home my left arm began hurting....A LOT!!!! I'm now 42y old and feeling fine. I was/am lucky that my heartcapacity hasn't become much worse...

The things ROK says is exactly what my cardiologist in the Netherlands are saying.

Take good care of your body and health!!

And a little bit of INFI now and then really helps ;) and using the INFI is a real stress reliever:thumbup::thumbup:

And push for a cath.

It is the ONLY way to get an idea of what is blocked/narrowed and what is not.

While pretty intrusive, it is the best $$$ you'll ever spend to get the answers... Will also establish a baseline if nothing is there.

Stay well man.

Hammy

You've already had a lot of good advice.

My suggestion -- follow it, and NOW!

Meanwhile, I and my clan are praying for you. And we will keep it up.

I'd sure like to be admiring VTW's artwork a year from now, ten years from now, etc!!

dang, i'm 33 and i thought i was doing great with stress and fitness and all that jazz.
this is one of those things that makes you think. on the other hand i got some thrill issues. if i don't get a good stress dose, i just don't feel right. same goes for coffee, i drink the black blood of the earth like it's a religion.

hope you are going to be ok man.

Take care man!

Within the bike racing community I have seen a lot of very fit guys come up with heart issues due to stress. Sometimes you need to slow down so you can stay fast.:thumbup:

Sounds like you were lucky, take the advice of the others that are "in the know". Give us an update how you are.

Man... Just had a Chicken Steak and Cheese sammy. Feel like throwing it back up now. This reminds me that I have to change some things in my life as well. 40 now and the Stress has never been greater in my life...

Dewd, listen to the advice above. Sounds spot on.

Seems ironic, but consider yourself lucky. Take the hint. Get a full cardio checkup with the best cardiac group you can find. If you need to make some life changes, do it now. It’s worth it. I’ve been down that road and it’s only by the grace of God I’m here to tell you, don’t ignore any symptoms and do everything your doctors/cardiologist suggest.
Live long, live healthy, live smart!
