Had the sheeple experience

How U handle this is simple.
First, I don't loan knives.
Second, I carry a slipping in my pocket for use in public.

People in many areas have just been brainwashed by hollywood.

I have begun carrying slipjoints as they seem more easily accepted. Additionally, I was surprised at how many people didn't know how to use common locking blades like a backlock. I started carrying the slippie as so I can loan a tool for those that need it and to have when there are a lot of onlookers and a larger blade isn't called for. I'm still unsure how a fixed blade would be accepted as I think they're viewed equally more like a tool when in use but as a weapon when carried. I think a lot of people just don't know what to think if I whip out a millie in a board room so I stick with the barlow or similar medium sized slipjoint.

I always have more than one knife on me as I like the "funner" blades for when I'm certain not to catch comments like if I'm out in the warehouse or production floor.

And your argument for carrying a knife is not as strong as "hollywood's" (whoever that is)?

Seems like someone passionate about knives would be able to easily counter "hollywood's" argument, educate, and "flip" the person.

Huh. Not an hour ago I was upgrading my phone and noticed the sales guy had a Benchmade in his pocket. I commented on it and he happily showed off his nice tanto A/O Barrage and I showed him my FRN Chapparal. Nobody around us even blinked, though one guy did ask how I knew it was a Benchmade when it was still in his pocket.

I was about to say its always more effective to educate people than it is to just come here and complain, but I'm not following who had the issue, if anyone, with your knife.
Made it more confusing than necessary. My buddy was ok with it. People who were with him opening a package were not. His take is that even a Dragonfly would have freaked them out. I'll leave my knife to my pocket or slicing apples and pears as needed. Or maybe just keep a paring knife in my office.

Scissors in the office. Kitchen knives in kitchens. Utility knives on construction sites. Everything else suitable only for camping/fishing/yard work. A pocket knife of any size for general utility is an anachronism.
They had scissors and it wasn't working. Didn't see the package so can't say what the issue was.

Make that three of us. I have worked in construction in the field all the way to financial management in a bank over my last 60 years. Carry the right knife for the job (smaller in white collar situations is better) and keep it in your pocket unless it is for your own use. Let other folks get their own knives. How one handles situations has everything to do with perception.
<snip>
The solution is simple, RipD. Keep your knife in your pocket.
Agreed. Will continue to use it to cut my apples and pears and not offer it up.

Was just sharing a story. Not trying to stir up any trouble or make anybody look bad. I honestly thought was amusing. I can get company branded Swiss Army Classic for ~$15. Will keep one of those around.

The Victorinox Secretary is perfect for that kind of atmosphere. One good sized blade for you, one tiny one for everyone else. It also doesn't hurt that it is super slim and light so it can be carried in casual or dress pants or even a shirt or dress jacket pocket.

So, "we" lose and "they" win.

This is what I don't get and I'm not trying to bust on you in particular..."sheepdogs" come in here all the time complaining about "sheeple" .... even the name implies how wimpy and unmanly the "sheeple" are...and who are the ones who do nothing but back off and come here to complain?

The "sheepdogs."

I think folks don't realize who is leading who around.

Use your knife in a way that changes peoples' minds.

 I just got to that part. The company you work for puts their name on SAKs. Knives. Roll that one around a bit.

If you can't act in a way or come up with a logical reason for carrying a knife, then you prove the "sheeple" correct.
Unfortunately , some people fundamentally believe that humans can not be trusted to have potential weapons . Weirdly , they are often supposedly "humanists " . Compromise with such a viewpoint is counterproductive .

Well, you can rest easily knowing that there will always be threads here complaining about "sheeple" rather than doing anything about their views.

I don’t think this situation is likely to improve as long as people who should know better continue to refer to knives as weapons instead of tools. Forged In Fire is my pet peeve on this.

This is why I always carry an Alox SAK. Those are the only things I'll let people use. And I don't open it for them. I think people tend to freak out less if they open it themselves.

Last resort is my keychain Spyderco Ladybug and Leatherman Style. Usually non-scary due to the presence of keys.

I worked before in an office and people would comment often jokingly to not piss me off I might cut them though the only times I ever took out my knife at that job was to score cables, open boxes, and sometimes pry the wall plate off an outlet. My current job is in a government office so I am more cautious about when and where I use my knife but I do carry it visibly in my pocket and am allowed to do so. I only have one person in my office who has a fear of knives but she does not really take issue with me or my carrying. I haven't had much experience with sheeple probably due to living in a southern state where it is all too common to see a person with a pocket knife. I do try and avoid lending out my knife too often when I have do they use it improperly or can't figure how to close a locking knife but I am of course happy to assist and use my knife for the needed task assuming it is a task for a knife.

All the comments about conscious raising, how you use your knife, carrying a slippie (my tactic), etc are very true. There is one other thing to remember though. Some people are just buttheads.

So they won't be persuaded or have their conscious raised. They will freak out, get upset, cluck like mother hens... because that's what they do.

Luckily they aren't in the majority. I like the post about the knife guy whose coworkers commented on his big knife and clucked a bit but in the long run "didn't make a big deal about it because he didn't". Now he's the "knife guy", and handy when they need a knife.

And why do you think they are like that? Stupidity? Inability to think on their own?
