Hammer time

I have some fiberglass handled hammers, but I usually use plain wooden handled 2 to 4 lb, either cross pien or single jack types that I get from HF for just a few dollars apiece.

They are easy to modify on the belt grinder for shaping blades and seem to hold up well, even the 4# that I use on round bar A2 and 52100 mill balls.

The old one was a stanley hammer, the kind with a bright yellow fiberglass handle. I was quite flabbergasted when the manager called it abuse. I was too buisy picking my own jaw up off the floor to even think about raising even more of a ruckus. I couldn't speak for like a minute while I digested that bit of input.

I got a chance to hit some 5/8" round W2 with the new one today. Gonna need a little more sanding in the handle, but wow, I didn't think I would notice such a difference!

If you finish your handles with 60/220/ then 400 grit, wet the handle with a damp towel between grits let dry and move to the next grit, finishing off with 000 steel wool. Stain, buff with SW and coat with tru-oil,let dry and buff with rag. makes a good-look'in handle and feels great. Just thought I'd throw that in.
