Handgun question

Ruger SR-22 (.22LR); it has decent reviews. I have the Walther P22 but reliability is spotty. Good luck!

I have a Bersa in 380 with a 7 round magazine and its easy to manipulate and very accurate. Mine is an older Firestorm. Now they are called the Thunderer and you can even buy them with a 15 round capacity. I also have a Ruger Sr-22 handgun and I've had nothing but failure to feed problems with mine. I'm going to have to send it in to Ruger. When it cycles properly its a dream to shoot and very accurate. I also have a Smith Wesson model 351PD, 7 shot 22 magnum revolver. Although its not cheap in prce it's a great little revolver that is light weight, easy to shoot and very accurate. Mine really likes the Hornady 45 grain FTX Critical defense round. Another one that I really like is my Beretta Tomcat in 32 ACP with the tip up barrel. Another very accurate little handgun. Kel-Tec makes some great little handguns, afterall Ruger thought so much of them they copied them and called it the LCP.

the Walthers are pretty comfortable and a bit easier to work the slide then the Ruger LCP ... but you may want too look at the Ruger LCR ... S&W also makes a M&P revolver that shoots well. You can find some of the S&W 3" kit guns or Ultra Lites in 22LR or 22Mag resonable too if you keep an eye out for them.

As someone mentioned the Berreta Tomcats have a tip up barrel so she wouldn't have to rack the slide at all and come in 22 or 32 ... I prefer the 22 option of those.

I dont know the size/weight limit you're looking for but the Berreta Cheetah in .380 is one of my favorite med to small sized Autos its a bit larger and heavier but makes it a joy to shoot and easier slide operation.

Good luck I hope you find one that she will enjoy shooting.

I second the walther pk380. I got one a few years back and carried it for a while. I gave it to my mom because her Taurus tcp was too hard for her to operate and shoot well at her age. She loves the pk380. It's easier for her to rack and the bigger frame has awesome ergos so she can shoot it pretty well.

John, i think you mentioned that she once had a beretta 84. Beretta used to make a model 87 which is a .22 cal cheeta. Basically the same platform as the 84 and 85. Not sure if they make them new still, but I am sure they are floating around gunbroker once in a while. The only thing is that they were pricy when they were new back then. More money than the 92, 84, 85, and Px4 series. I guess that was due to the more limited production, not sure though.

If you are considering revolvers and ok with .22, a nice S&W model 63 would be fantastic. Its a small J frame and the best .22 cal revolver i can think of ever besides the older colt diamondbacks. I am pretty sure they still make the 3 inch barrel new, but a well taken care of used S&W is as good as new lol

I would not recommend any .25acp - ammo is expensive and the ballistics are laughable.

Do you want your S&W .38+p back? That would be perfect for her and I do recommend the small revolver for people who don't train or would be better off firing from inside a pocket or purse.

Let me know - I can bring it up with me to Michigan - and I'll sell it back for the same price you sold it to me -

Otherwise, has anyone shown her proper technique for racking with limited hand strength?

I just picked up a sig sauer p238, its a .380 and it is on the smaller side though. I can get a firm two fingers on the handle while the pinkey is under the mag it also came with night sights. Just went to the range today with it and it was a pleasure to shoot and the accuracy was great for how compact it was. It might be a little to small what you're looking for though, I kind of just wanted to share my excitement for this new firearm.

I could not even shoot that little Airweight good, so I doubt she could. We went to a large gun store yesterday, and she held and worked some she liked, and fell in love with an S&W M&P .22 Compact. We are going back Thursday do try it on their range.

If she likes the S&W M&P .22 Compact look at the Walther P22. I bought one for my wife several years ago and she shoots it very well. It is accurate and after break-in has had no feeding issues. Another rimfire to consider is the Ruger 22/45 Lite. I've only had mine a few months but love it. I still think a lightweight revolver from S&W, Ruger, or Taurus would be a better choice than any auto pistol.

Of the guns Connie has owned, (Glock 19, Beretta 84, S&W 3913 LS, and Taurus 85), she has shot the autos better than the revolver. I`m going to mention that this is just for enjoyable shooting, not self defense. Our house gun is a 3" S&W Model 629 loaded with Winchester Silvertip .44 Specials. Because of the weight of it she can shoot it fine, but it is not a plinker.

I should also say that I really liked the Glock 42 and Ruger LC .380 Custom. I may have to do some trading myself!

Have you heard that Glock is finally coming out with a single stack 9mm? From what I've heard, they should be out in the next month or two.

If the Mrs. has owened and enjoyed a Glock in the past, have you comsidered a 2lr conversion kit for the Glock 17 you currently own. It could be a cheaper option than buying a new gun.

If she liked her cheetah, you can probably find a beretta 81 or 82. Those are the 32 models. that would be my choice for her.

If the slide is too difficult on the cheetahs, then perhaps a quality revolver would be the better way to go. Choose the gun that will be the most fun.

......... I`m going to mention that this is just for enjoyable shooting.......
Does it have to be a handgun? I ask because my wife loves to shoot and her favorite is shooting skeet. She is also "overly" fond of my 10/22 set up with a bull barrel and tri-pod. Few things make her smile like busting skeet or plinking away at small targets.

I'm leaving the decision up to her, I'm not going to try to influence her unless it's a junky gun.

If she liked the M&P I think she will enjoy shooting it. Thats the gun my niece learned with and still shoots it on occasion when she visits. And the M&P I have has been a very reliable firearm. Good luck ... thats my trouble I always find something that catches my eye and end up bringing something home too.

cbwoods-- I saw that Glock announcement too-the Glock 43...looks to be very similar dimensionally to the 42...might have to pick one up when they come out. Probably be a tough sell to the wife though... you know, "you have one that looks just like that already!" :D:D
