Handle material

David, you got that Bura Tarwar?! Great snag! It's amazing and I'd love some more pictures.....

Good job George on your collection. Six CAK's is awesome! I don't have a CAK or an AK yet...

My friend (who can break anything) asked me for a HI Blade.. He's been helping me A LOT build my house so I'm going to have to pick one out for him.

Those 'used' blades that popped up would've been perfect, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for an AK/WWII/Tamang/ASTK/M43/KLVUK or something for him...
I wpuld get your friend a CAK with a preferably wooden handle, they don't call it the "unbreakable knife" for nothing!

Thanks. Damn I hope you know how lucky you are, that is a real beautiful gem right there. My regular 15" AK was made by kumar as well. How much did that beauty set you back? Already over my khukuri budget but damn if I don't want one.

I'm not 100% sure what it cost but Yangdu sold the antler handle 16" AK and a 12" Foxy Folly for $155

That's a particularly beautiful example, with the variations of coloration and depth, though I think that technically it's horn (from a water buffalo).

I really can't argue with you about it, though Ms Yangdu said it was antler.
I've seen a lot of antler handle knives by various custom knifemakers and none looked even close to this.
Thanks for the suggestion as it jared my memory!

George:

That handle is beautiful, but I wonder if it is antler or gray horn? Maybe polished antler has that same look.

I have a WWII era vintage "officer's khukuri" -- a tin chirra, 18" OAL and 18 oz -- whose handle is gray horn and looks a lot like yours.

Yangdu told me it was antler but I'm wondering if it's Gray horn? Anyway, it's very beautiful and unique. I love mine and really love yours!
