Thanks guys!

Darksidedenny, It's stabilized spalted Buckeye Burl.

Love it - same stuff on the Trapper in my avatar.
I didn't see in your other thread: what, if anything, did you finish it with? Untreated, mine was kinda dull. I rubbed on 3 coats of tung oil, and it wound up kinda plastic. Would love a lustrous wood finish like yours.

Hey TJ, yea that stuff sure is beautiful. I finished mine with boiled linseed oil. Been putting a coat or two on everyday. It turned out nice but I think I need to wax it and hand buff it out. Been reading about it and that seems to be the final step. I just need to get some wax. I actually have some bees wax and might melt down some and mix with the linseed oil.

I have used tung oil in the past on stuff and got great finishes. Sand the wood to a high grit then I would put a coat on and let it dry a day or two then apply more and rub it out with 0000 steel wool. And the last coat of oil is just light and left as is.

Hope that helps a little. Im still learning about what works best on knife handles. I did want to use tung oil but can't find my can of it.

So maybe I just shouldn't have steel-wooled the last coat? That's easy enough to fix - I can put on another coat.
I do have BLO and beeswax, too, so if it doesn't work out I'll try that next - or on my next project.
Thanks!

Dex, this is my favorite of all the awesome mods on this thread, and hands down the best looking Becker I've ever seen!

I am awed and inspired. Great work!

Thanks man!

Here are all three that I did after I added a patina to them.

Hey keroscene, I like those handles a lot! Very nice work and cool design.

Whew!! Hyper-slick!

I tried a set of Bocote wood scales that started out thin, and they show in the results. But at $8.oo, what the hay. Mine are fitted on the BK5 next to Tommy's Honduras Rosewood on the BK9.
