I vote myself in as Bridgekeeper.....that should clear the decks for action...oh wait no because I once went across a bridge and saw that the planks were not all the exact same colour.....šŸ™„šŸ¤—

since unoffical and anyone can answer even tho not getting one:
Yellow. Traditional Classic "easy" to spot of dropped or sat down (unless inna field a daisies) Yellow.

If this were a ranked-choice/instant-runoff poll, I'd go with:
1) White
2) Brown
3) Blue

So, I'm willing to switch to brown if it gets down to it.
However, perhaps if Red gets more than 50% in the initial poll, we should let them have their way.

From wikipedia: This system simulates a series of runoff elections. Voters may rank all candidates as their 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice, and so on rather than indicating support for only one candidate.[12] A candidate with the majority (more than 50%) of first choice votes (the number one spot on the ballot) wins the election outright.[13] If no candidate is the first choice of more than half of the voters, then all votes cast for the candidate with the fewest first choices are redistributed to the remaining candidates based on who is ranked next on each ballot. If this does not result in any candidate receiving a majority, further rounds of redistribution occur.[14][13]
Atta girl, Rachel!!:cool::cool::thumbsup: Let's bring The Porch into the 21st century with regard to voting methods. (I get some kind of morning briefing email from the New York Times, and there was a story earlier this week about "regular" political contests being run now by ranked-choice voting.)

When I look at these polls and see that there are winners with only a plurality of the votes, nowhere near a majority, I think, "That ain't right! Why isn't Charlie using ranked-choice, or at least approval, voting???"

You want it to be even more complicated????
Or are you another supervision candidate???šŸ˜‚

I'm not sure what a supervision candidate is, so I'm not sure if I am one. (The main street 3 houses north of where I live is in the middle of a major 2-year reconstruction, and I do walk through at least once a day as a volunteer, and unwelcome, supervisor :( , so maybe I am a supervision candidate.😁)

If the "color poll" ended NOW, I suppose the Forum knife would be some kind of red, favored by just over 1/3 of the voters, while just under 2/3 of the voters would be less than pleased, as far as we can tell from a "vote for one" method. That doesn't seem like an outcome that's ideal to me!

But I didn't sign up for a Forum Knife, and I'm not voting in any of the polls, so I guess I don't really have a "horse in the race", other than trying to maximize satisfaction. Just taking advantage of an opportunity for consciousness-raising.

waynorth waynorth Charlie, I for one am not going to change my vote.
I said before that one can not please everyone all the time. You took on a thankless job and I commend you for doing it.
You made a decision and I respect that and will not participate in an attempt to sway or manufacture a change in the outcome.

GT, 5K Qs 5K Qs , I do not believe a majority will be unhappy with the ultimate selection. Most of us probably like several of the options. We might prefer one or the other a bit more but will be thrilled with whatever eventually rolls off the assembly line. That is how I am. Both brown or red would work for me just fine. I would even be fine with some of the other colors. What most people fear, including me, is getting a knife that they just flat out find undesirable. What is undesirable varies from person to person of course and is merely a preference. There are no right or wrong options. Unfortunately, a handful of people will come face to face with their "undesirable," but the vast majority will be happy indeed.

Charlie, waynorth waynorth , thank you for taking this on. I do not believe anyone else could have convinced Bill Howard to make a Forum Knife. You occupy a truly unique position in the traditional knife world. The word gravitas comes to mind.

I am so sorry that my undesirable was your beloved smooth white! Is there any way we can make the black cherry more cherry red and less black? I do not want to go against you twice. That would be tempting the Muses!

I’ll reveal my hand a little early. The purpose of two votes and 5 categories is to increase variation in individual answers and get a better view of the population. I’m going to interpret the data like this:

White total = (# White positive) - (# white negative)
Brown Total = (# Brown positive) - (# brown negative)
Other (not red) = (# other positive) + (# brown negative) + (# white negative)

Currently vote totals are
White: 6
Brown: 26
Other (not red): 26

Since ā€œOtherā€ still needs definition, so can I seek agreement that we would select the 4th most popular color by default? I don’t even know what it is, but I’m fine to roll the dice if ā€œother (not red)ā€ wins. What say ye?

Interesting note: only 20/49 people voted for two options!

brown is in the lead in spite of votes being left on the table.

Okay everyone, looks like green is holding at 38, which would require substantial help to get close to the current 113 for red. Logistically that would mean both white and brown camps would need to organize over the next couple of days and get the word out. I don't think that's possible.

Currently with 52 voters accounted for and using my analysis method mentioned above...
the change to white has 7 in favor (net)
āœ…the change to brown has 31 in favor (net)
the change to other (green) has 28 in favor (net)

I'm going to keep this poll open until tomorrow morning, but I think we can start changing our votes. If everyone who participated in this poll would kindly change their votes to brown, I think we can get the under dog win!

I'm looking forward to collaborating on shades of brown!!

I think for the most part many of us will be ā€œokayā€ with any of the colors in the poll. There seem to be a few more people that are straight up appalled at the idea of it being red. While no one really seems to be distraught over the idea of it being one of the other colors. So while more people may be voting red, more people will be satisfied with brown.

Personally, my order of least satisfaction starts with a copperhead/autumn/chestnut variant and then to a bright red. though id prefer other colors of brown over any of the reds. This is just me and it makes it hard to change my vote. Ill still be happy with whatever we end up with.
