Just a quick question all....the handles on the Scrapyard knives looks like rubber but I assume that it's supremely tough and firm. Is this correct?

These don't work loose over time or distort do they?

Thanks!

They are res-c. Not rubbery but Not hard plastic like Ontario. You just have to hold one. It is super tough and firm. They DONOT work loose or distort. They are damn near indestructible as any handle I have ever had and far more comfortable. My res-c boys:

The material is called Resiprene-C, and it is indeed tough!!!! I have several Scrap Yard knives, and have NEVER had a problem with a handle!:thumbup:

You're welcome!:D Keep in mind that when Busse made the "Basic" series, they had Resiprene-C handles as well. I don't recall reading any complaints about them either; they are just great knives!;):thumbup:

Thanks again...I have a couple of Busses and I want to add a Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard to my collection. I found a Scrap Yard here on the forum and now I REALLY WANT IT! :D

Go for it!!!:D It is part of the Busse group, run by Dan Busse. Don't be afraid to check out the Scrap Yard forum as well; many of us are on all three forums.

The best and most eloquent way it was described to me was this: It feels like a car tire.

Pure and simple and really accurate. :)

Here's the info from the Scrap Yard website on Res-C.

Handle Material Used

All Scrap Yard knives come equipped with Resiprene C handles. Think of Resiprene C as an all-terrain truck tire with better chemical resistance.

Resiprene C was made famous as a handle material when it was used on the Busse Combat Basics. These handles have all the advantages of rubber handles without any of the disadvantages. They are comfortable, shock absorbing, slip resistant when wet, and provide insulation from the cold. Unlike Kraton, Resiprene C is a Non-hygroscopic material which means that it will neither "take on" or "emit" fluids. This quality not only gives them unparalleled durability but makes them extremely easy to keep clean as dirt will simply not stick to them. It is impervious to salt water and petroleum based chemicals, and is much more resistant to higher and colder temps than is Kraton. Resiprene C is likewise impervious to the powerful insect repellent, DEET. It is so amazingly tough and durable that Busse stands as the only company to have ever put a Lifetime Guarantee on a rubber handle. All Scrap Yard handles are fully textured to supply a slip-resistant purchase in any grip configuration. So, whether you hold the blade in a saber grip, reverse grip, upside down grip, side grip, or whatever which way you are required to hold it for your particular application, you will be assured of having a secure hold.

The handles are tough and then some. My old, sturdy standby Basic 9 has seen a BUNCH of use over the years. The knife and the handle are still ticking. Honestly, I like chopping with the Res-C handles better than any of the other Busse clan blades. They are amazingly ergonomic and easy on the mit while allowing for a secure grip.

It's hard to explain the feel. Very tough feel. It's doesn't "give" at all but it has a soft surface to it.

Keep in mind the warranty. If a handle ever did loosen up, The Yard has you covered. This gets me wondering if it's ever happened. Has anyone ever heard of a res-c handle getting loose? Maybe after throwing one too many times?

the handles are tough rubber but not rubbery in feel.
The handles have extremely close fit to the tang, they seem almost molded to the tang, and the lanyard hole goes trough the tang as well.
I do not think it is possible to get any wiggle in the handle ever.

Res. C is one of the most comfortable and durable handles that I have ever used.

Another res c fan here. It makes a big difference in chopping shock, and it is head and shoulders above krayton.

I own two Scrapyard blades and have zero complaints. Just to add to the pile, the res c just works. It is great stuff! Do it!!

Not to hijack the thread but while its here...
If I were to strip the coating with paint stripper on one of the sycko series, would it damage the handle?
