This weekend I stayed with a buddy at his cottage near Sharbot lake. He has a cabin on Farron Lake and a 30 acre wood lot about 15 min away. We also went over to some of our research lakes to help our students sample and did a quick survey of a new lake in Foymount which was loaned to our school for research purposes.

Anyhow, photobucket scrambled my pictures in their order and I am too lazy to tell the story in a linear fashion while finding pictures. Just think of this as a Quentin Tarrentino post. This is a shot of the lake in Foymount, this little town is an old airforce base and one of the highest settlements in eastern Ont. There was still lots of snow on the ground and to our surprise still ice on the water...

Sasha - that cabin is the one that was lent to our school and research team. The owner bought the land for remove its lumber and he logged it pretty extensively. What is interesting about it is that he owns 400 acres that completely surround the lake. Also because of the high elevation of the lake (it is on top of a large hill, the lake and its watershed is completely isolated from anything else. It is a great study system and we are thankful that the owner is giving us the opportunity to use his land and resources. He's a bit of an older gentleman and wants to see his property provide some use.

Looks like an awesome place! I bet you can't wait to get back there when everything is lush and green eh!

Terriffic pics!!

Kgd when i think of a log cabin thats what i pic in my head. One lever porch in the front over looking a lake with woods all around... A dog just complets the pic for me. Thanks

Excellent pictures, kgd. Reminds me of many past Spring canoe trips - the landscape, that is.

I'm surprised the Dicentra cucullaria is up already - (That's Dutchman's Breeches and yes I had to look up the binomial :o)

Jezz K, thanks for the pics. I miss the East coast dearly, your pics give a reason to work harder to get back there as soon as possible, thanks.
