Hello, guys

I was looking around at e-bay when I stumbled with this nice piece that looks like a hanshee to me.
As my budget will not allow me to get it, maybe one of you forumites will be its lucky new owner.

I'm no expert, but that definitely looks like a hanshee to me. Too expensive, though...at least for me.:(

I looked on ebay and also found a really nice old tin chirra (also too expensive:( ). Don't know how to put a picture up here, but if you search for "kukri 1800's" you've find it. John Powell might even be interested;) .

Whatever...that is a beauty, and a good reason why I should never go near E Bay. It isn't a matter of will power - I have plenty of will power. I lack WON'T power (I won't buy it, I won't...)

not one I'm planning to bid on - but I was curious if anyone knows what it is exactly? The seller has titled it 'UNKNOWN FAR EASTERN KRIS/SWORD' (you can search for that on ebay if you so desire, but it's currently at US$150.00 and the reserve still hasn't been met):

blade:

hilt (very shallow cho??-can't tell):

very nice carved-handle:

square scabbard:

cheers, B.

but there seems to be very little curve and the cho (if it's there, hard to tell from the pic) is quite shallow. B.

The handle could be Nepali as I think I've seen similar, but it looks more to me like something from Sea-Asia. The handle very much resembles some of the water effigies portrayed on some Keris.
I can't recall what they are called.
The blade doesn't show any evidence that it has ever had a cho IMO.
It's a beautiful piece and one I wouldn't mind keeping in my safe.:)

One of the more knowledgable will nail it down for us.

How do you guys find all these great things on Ebay... until now, I considered myself pretty Ebay savy, but I searched the other night for the Hanshee and couldn't find it at all (used all of my search variations and such too)...

I'm getting jealous :) .

typically the sellers don't list them properly - the hanshee pictured above isn't called a hanshee on eBay, it's called 'PRE-WW2 GURKHA KNIFE'....but I don't want to give away my secret method for finding khukuris on eBay ;) .

B.

Beoram, the knife you have posted loods Indonesian or Malaysian to me. It appears to be a variation on a parang; I'll bet you a nickle it is definitely from somewhere in the malay archipelego. I agree that Federico is probably your best bet on pegging this one.

Alan the khukuris can be listed many ways. Try, banana knife, bent knife, boomerang knife, Burmese Knife, Indonesian Knife, Ghurka in several spellings, gurka, gurca, etc. Then all the different ways you can imagine to spell kukri.
I like to watch some of the battles, but I don't bid on ebay or any other online autions, although I understand I may be losing out on some pretty nice Keris as well as some old Marble's Knive's every once in awhile.:)

Good hunting!!!!!!!:D

To find khuks on e-bay, try this:

khukuri
khukhuri
kukhuri
kukuri
kukri
khukuri
kukuri

gurka
ghurka
gurca
ghurka
ghurkha
ghurcha

It's been working for me for a while. You will fing TONS of junk, though.
Good luck

and:
curved knife
curved blade
Nepal
Indian sword
Indian knife
Indian dagger
India
gurkah
knife from Tibet
asian farm tool
Asian knife

and you WILL find tons of incredible junk.

OhBoy OhBoy OhBoy OhBoy OhBoy OhBoy OhBoy OhBoy:D:D:D

Yvsa, John, Ivan and Beoram.... thanks!!!!

I have quit buying stuff on Ebay, but I still sport shop there :) . EBAY does come up with some interesting items. I was able to get two mint condition Pacific Cutlery model 69s and a model 68 balisongs last spring/summer. I have since sold the 69s... even made a slight profit... (a museum supposedly acquired one) and the 68 is my EDC knife. There is something about a Jody Samson hand ground blade...

I'm going to do a lot of copy/pasting the different spellings and such into my search favorites and go hunting :) . I'll be sure to post anything cool here on the forum... Unless I decide to bid on it of course ;). I don't think I could compete with you professional acquisitioners!
