Hanshee (?) at e-bay

This is supposed to be the best book on watered, wootz, layered, etc. blades: "On Damascus Steel" by Dr. Leo Figiel. Published in 1991, but I have a new reprint and it is a very good book with lots of great information and many terrific photos.

Yvsa, thanks for finally naming that movie! Everyone talks about it, but nobody can remember what it was called where they did the 'falling scarf' thing. Now I know what movie to look for...

On blade patterns, Lee Jones has put together a good article on "Blade Patterns Intrinsic to Steel Edged Weapons": http://www.vikingsword.com/ethsword/patterns.html

I must admit though that the technical aspects have never sunk into my head. I just look at the stuff and enjoy it!

Every now and then I'll get a phone call from somebody wanting to buy a Gurkha. I tell them if they go to Nepal they might be able to rent a retired one but doubt if they can find one for sale. Of course, this really confuses the issue but I can't resist.

Actually (if anyone is interested), one can 'rent' a Gorkha :). Goto:

cheers, B.

I read an article somewhere about rich Hong Kong businessmen who rented former Gorkhas to serve as bodyguards.

Now, those are some bodyguards I wouldn't want to mess with.:)

The problem was crooks were kidnapping the rich HK businessmen and holding them for ransom. I haven't heard of anybody being kidnapped who had rented Gorkhas.
