Hanson EDC for Blade -NEW CLIP

Great looking knife, but I would go with something else for the clip too. For me the ti (and its colour) stands out too much against the handle material.

It was my call not Dons. He was going to go with something more brown and I asked for blue. I think this knife may go through different phases through out its life and I like hearing all your input. Thanks all!

Many of the first custom knives I have ever seen and held before I owned one had blue liners. I guess its basically default for me.

Fantastic folder.

If it was for me, I would like the liners & the clip in a less "loud" colour.

Kind regards,

Jos

You guys are all Fuddy Duddy's. ;)

Jon, I LOVE the vibrancy of the blue liners. It's why it jumps out at you.

...and the color acts as an accent on the clip. HOWEVER.....

From an entirely practical standpoint, I've yet to see an actual clip on a 'user' which didn't get scratched. It's the only thing hanging out there in a tight squeeze and it's GOING to get scuffed.

Adding to this natural occurrence with a fragile finish bears my hesitancy. Not the color.

It needs a damascus rub bar. An inlaid clip.

Two things I especially like: The recess of the clip and the thumbdisk. That's classy.

These are high class problems.

BTW: I rank this a 10 on the Clack Factor™ action, with a score of 7 on overall CF volume. The blade simply doesn't have the bulk to resonate.

If it were up to me, it would not have had a clip at all. :D

I can do a damascus clip (not mosaic), but I like what Coop said about a damascus overlay, or inlay on the existing clip. That might be very cool. A textured clip might be cool also.

I will not let Jon talk me into grinding the natural texture off the mammoth though.

Thanks for the high 'clack factor' grade, Coop!

Leaving the Ti clip natural silver color with look like crap ! I might be able to take it passed blue into a gray color that would look OK. Texture is also a good idea for it.

Good thing is, if Jon wants it different, he has my address... :D

I agree! Personally I think that a clip disturbs the visual "flow" of a folder, and in use, it gets in the way. Nearly all of my fancy custom folders are clipless!

As for the mammoth, that texture is fantastic. It would, indeed be a shame to grind in to it. Although I keep wondering how it would look if it showed more "white" stuff in combination with that gnarly texture...

Kind regards,

Jos

Wow, Relax gents!! =) This knife is first and foremost built as a strong user. I wanted that kind of ivory due to the texture feeling in the hand. I like blue so I went with the blue green stuff but it turned out to be beautiful ivory anyway. I never suggested I was gonna shave this one down. Don's probably just picking on me because he has secret issues with my having him shave down the Zulu folder. Just wont admit it ;) :) This brings me to the clip. Clips are ugly, we all know that. But every knife I have enjoyed carrying (with the exception on Don's) had a clip and I always use it. So for carry I figured this knife should be like the other I like and sport a clip! Its remove able so I can just not wear it all the time if I don't want. Don talked me out of double bolsters becuase its not practical in this case.

Good convo btw guys. :)

But let me reiterate that I have no desire to mess with the ivory on this one! I should also reiterate that EVERY single knife of Don's that I used seemed to cut better then literally everything else i've used in my life.

Well Guy's I'm a little confused now. I'm working on a 2 5/8 closed EDC I was thinking about a clip on it. So ya think it should be damascus instead of titanium? :D

I have passed on many customs (on dealers' sites) because they lack a clip. I like to carry a knife, and I don't like it moving around in my pocket. An owner can always remove a clip, but can't put one on if it wasn't designed with one (unless the maker is willing to insert a clip on one of his clip-less knives).

I personally like damascus clips because they "wear" better, but only if the blade or bolster is damascus. It needs to match something else on the knife. Anodized clips show wear pretty quickly IMO. In this case, Jon's choice looks good to my eye. It ties together with the liners and adds something that personalizes the knife.

After some thought I have come up with a solution. If Don has a piece of similar mammoth or a scrap piece from making these scales I think that he should screw it to the top of the clip, thus covering most of it and blending it in with the scales. An overlay if you will.

Hi Jon,
Well I can see that you didn't check with everyone before you ordered this knife. My question is do you like it?

I love if cliff and am absolutely stoked to get it almost more then I have been with many others. I have no problem with the knife but thought it could open up interesting discussion. I know the knives I like to carry so this was built that way. It was not made to please everyone.

Do you like it? Can't wait to hang with you in two weeks!

The great thing about customs is that you can customize a knife to your own preferences. It goes without saying that a custom made knife will be taste-specific to the owner. It combines the best of an EDC knife and an art knife. And that's not easy to do.

Exactly my view on all this. Thanks!

Jon, I do like it a bunch. My only problem is it is a bigger knife than what I like. Don't hold that against me though. But it is a kick ass piece.

Looking forward to seeing ya also.

Take care

Don did exactly what I wanted and I couldn't be happier or more exited!

Bingo! Great folder, Jon. Can't wait to see it up close and personal at Blade. As far as the clip is concerned, you know who to send it to if you decide you want a change. And, different from the Zulu makeover, you can still go back to blue down the road.

I like your taste, man.

Vey nice knife. Congrats. Way too pricey and fancy for me to carry as an EDC, but if I ever hit Powerball . . .

As for the clip, I do think it is too bright/light colored. However, I would not like Damascus. I think hot blued would be perfect.
