Hanson Slip Joint for Carry

Don has had a fair bit of mammoth ivory like that. I remember awhile back he some red mammoth ivory with that kind of crackle. It was some of the most beautiful ivory I have ever seen. Don is very good at picking out the best stuff.

I keep several of Don's images on file. Here is the red mammoth Keith is referring to, I believe.

And, another close up of Jonathan's.

Dirty ivory at its best! ;)

Yeah Joe, thats the one. I like the smooth finished blue ivory best, but this stuff is growing on me. It adds a traditional look to the knives IMO. Dirty looking? Yes! I think it would be to devistating to scratch up a pretty blue/green handle.

I used to buy a lot of mammoth in the rough, bark and mud still on.
Was able to save the bark with the best texture and use it like stag,
not taking any off the top. I still have a good bit, but my source for this
material dried up.

Jonathan, by 'dirty', I was referring to Don's comment about buying rough bark with the mud still on. I love the stuff. Natural grip!

that is very nice looking material.

I think that is a positively exquisite EDC knife!! CONGRATS!! You are going such pleasure out using that beautiful knife!!

Come to think of it, I think this little girl would make a nice handle material.

What do you say Don?

Thanks so much everyone for the kind comments. This whole experience made me really happy. :):):):)

Jon, that's a pretty snake. My bro is a snake nut and has a dozen or so.

Todd, this is some cool ivory. But the folder you just posted is ''Off The Hook''

More texture of the red one....

Ah, yes.....the infamous "damaged" MS test knife.:D Don chose not to submit this knife for testing even though it would have likely won one or more awards because it allegedly had a TINY scratch somewhere where only he could see it.:p That is an amazing piece of ivory. I have told a number of people about it and some of them have never even seen red mammoth ivory before. Apparently it is pretty rare and STOOPID expensive when you do find it. But you can see why:thumbup:

Jon, I borrowed a large bowie from a collector.

It really wasn't an issue, but I was freaking out at the time :o

Jon, another great Hanson for ya, and a user to boot! I hate to be a wuss but discoloring that blade would really freak me out. You are da man.

That bark mammoth is way cool and the damascus compliments it very well. Congrats on landing yet another winner.

Your snake is a beauty. Had 4 (2 large redtail boas, 1 California King, 1 nasty bastard albino cornsnake) and a Mexican redleg tarantula when I was married to my last wife, current wife doesn't like 'em so I respect that. She collects knives and loves Don's work so I have no complaints!
