Hap40 Caly 3 ?

How does Hap40 compare with the older model ZDP 189 in edge retention? I know it is tougher steel, but is edge retention comparable to M4? I have the older model in ZDP189 and wonder what the new G10 model brings to the table, besides more weight.

The HAP40 sprints knocked it out of the park.

Oh? Do you have one? I'm a huge fan of ZDP, it's incredible stuff. I have 5 or 6 folders in that and can't get enough. m4 is great too. 2 of my favorite steels. If you're claiming (and it could be so, but it's a little hard to imagine) that Hap40 is noticeably more awesome than those, in terms of scary-sharp and edge retention, I'm doubly eager to try some.

I don't have any spydercos in HAP40 but I have in ZDP. Now from what I have understood the ZDP is a little better in pure edge retention but HAP40 is also very good and very tough as well(ZDP is not as tough).

We are beginning to receive them, but we have to have a minimum number in house and through QC before we can begin shipping.

Anyone wondering where it is in term of edge holding should check Jim Ankerson test thread and also can try watching Michael Christy test against ZDP, M4 & SB.

So far, for my use, they are comparable but I like ZDP (as in Endura 4) little more. Bear in mind my Endura has been resharpened many times and my HAP40 Stretch not as much, so the factory grind overheat might still a factor. YMMV.

Dumb question here. This is the first I have seen anything on the Caly 3 Hap 40. Is this a sprint or production? I have had the worst luck on obtaining sprints lately. Thanks
for the info.

I certainly will not turn down dark green HAP40 Caly3.5. But lately, after carrying Caly3.5 for several years, I found myself coming back and carrying Caly3. Both knives are terrific.
