I've had great birthdays, fine birthdays, disappointing birthdays, and a (now-large!) number of them neither here nor there.

But, no matter what, I love my birthday-- just the fact of it, the part where, in contradistinction to other holidays or events, it's My Day.

I've had babies near my birthday; my oldest baby was born 26 years ago today, and my youngest will turn 18 three days after my birthday this year. In other words, I was very close to having to Share My Day for the rest of our respective lives.

~~~~~~
Well-meaning friends, back in those days:
"Wouldn't it be wonderful if the baby was born on your birthday?!"
I digress.
In early December, GEC and KSF brought forth #25 Little Jacks in Blue Camel Bone.
Alert readers just might have noticed that I happen to love GEC's #25s, and also have a certain predilection for blue.
Thus, this knife particular was right up my alley...
... and has seldom left my pocket since it arrived.
In fact, this iteration of this pattern is so much "me," in what it both is and represents of my knife affections, I wanted to share it here.
So when I bought mine, I actually bought two.
One for me (the Used One), one for (one of) you. :)
So, let's play! Tell me about a memorable birthday, a happy thing, say something funny, post a picture, or just chime in to let me know you'd enjoy having this knife.
I'll let this run 1-1.5 weeks, with the goal of having this knife with its new owner in time for my birthday, February 9th.
I hate (hate) having to pick just one winner, so will determine the recipient in whatever randomly fair method I come up with when the time comes.
For (one of) you:
Happy Birthday! ;)
EDITED TO ADD: Anyone who wants a chance at this knife (as indicated in the thread) will be entered for the giveaway, one time total. When the time comes, I'll randomize and select the winner by username, not thread post #.
The point being: feel free to respond to one another (and the great anecdotes, and funny pictures, etc.) in this thread if you'd like to, without fear (or hope!) of influencing your or another's chance at the knife. :)
Happy upcoming birthday! My favorite birthday was October 3 in 2013. My son (our first) was born September 11, 2013, so a few weeks later on my birthday I was just a proud happy daddy!
Two and a half years later and here is the little man. He loves blue too :)
I'll play:) my birthday is new years day, so it's often overlooked. However, my girlfriend made it special by taking me out to eat, going wherever I wanted (that was open), and we ended up watching the new Star Wars. Happy early birthday!
Not an entry, but I have a story of sorts.
About 30 years ago, my Dad passed. He and my mother had been married 39 years. Before he died, he knew my wife was pregnant with what would have been his first grandchild, had he lasted a few months longer. Well it turned out that my son was born on my mother's first wedding anniversary that she spent without my father. So the day was redeemed and became a day of rejoicing instead of sadness for her. God moves in mysterious ways.
Happy birthday in advance P. One of my most cherished birthdays was 10 years ago on my 50th. My wife threw a party for me and over 200 old and new friends showed up. WOW what a bash. Thanks for the chance.
Not an entry, Sarah, but thanks for the love, you're one of the real good members here. Happy birthday and many, many more!
First of all, Happy Birthday to one of our most cherished porch sitters. It wouldn't be the same here without you Sarah.
I'll play along on this one.
Blue is my favorite color, and that one is beautiful.
I haven't pulled the trigger on a #25 yet, but a WLST is definitely on my short list.
My favorite birthday was in June of 2011, six months after my marriage of 15 years ended. A dear friend had come back into my life, and she told me she wanted to take me to dinner for my birthday. When I showed up at the restaurant there was about 50 people waiting there to see me. Some of them I had not seen in 30 years. So many people came together to celebrate me was beyond wonderful considering my previous year had been so rough. After I got home I got a call from Donna who was living in Los Angeles at the time. We talked a while, she wished me a happy birthday and told me for the first time she loved me. I'd never felt so much from so many. One of the best days of my life.
And Donna... She and I have a place together here in Little Rock. Some of the pictures I post are her work.
Not an entry, but Happy Birthday to YOU! Your humor, kindness and unique perspective is so very much appreciated!
My oldest (18), her bday is 3 days before mine in December. When I turned 41 my wife
took me to a nice place to eat and to see Brian Setzer in concert after!
Bad thing about birthdays, the Blade show is usually here on her bday weekend.
Makes for a tough June, we live less than 1 hour from the show..
Count me in, please and thank you.
Not an entry, but thanks for your generous GAW and for all you bring to us here! :thumbup::thumbup: I'm impressed by the planning that you have obviously put into this undertaking!
I'm also enjoying the birthday stories folks are sharing. :thumbup: Good luck to all the entrants! :)
An editorial suggestion: changing "Alert readers" to "Readers with a pulse" may be more accurate. :D
memorable -- about 20 years back, on my second (& so far final) tour of college, mom decided that since I didn't have a functioning car to drive to her place for my birthday (165 miles away), she and her hubby would surprise me by driving up to the campus.
so she showed up at the city park with a cake that had a picture of snow white on the front and said "happy birthday Amy" -- because mom found it cheap at the grocery store (someone ordered it and then changed their mind about what they wanted) and because there was a girl I had met a few months earlier named Amy (who lived 500 miles away) that mom liked and thought should be part of the family. She left mad because I was not intending on marrying the girl I had only seen twice and supplying her with grandchildren. OTOH, the cake was chocolate, and the gesture was sweet -- although more than slightly surreal.
Hope your birthday goes better than you could hope, thanks for the generosity, best of luck to all who enter, and congrats to the winner.
Sarah,
I'd love to have that little Warny/Sheepsfoot in Blue which happens to be my favorite color aas well! :thumbup:
I like bright & dark Blues! And Blues Music too! :)
here is some food for thought on our fav color!
Blue
¨ Blue is the color of the sky and sea.
¨ It is often associated with depth and stability.
¨ It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.
¨ Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect.
¨ Blue is strongly associated with tranquility and calmness.
¨ In heraldry, blue is used to symbolize piety and sincerity.
¨ You can use blue to promote products and services related to cleanliness (water purification filters, cleaning liquids), air and sky (airlines, airports, air conditioners), water and sea (sea voyages, mineral water).
¨ Blue is linked to consciousness and intellect.
¨ Blue is a masculine color; according to studies, it is highly accepted among males.
¨ Dark blue is associated with depth, expertise, and stability; it is a preferred color for corporate America.
¨ Avoid using blue when promoting food and cooking, because blue suppresses appetite.
¨ When used together with warm colors like yellow or red, blue can create high-impact, vibrant designs; for example, blue-yellow-red is a perfect color scheme for a superhero.
Light blue is associated with health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness.
Dark blue represents knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness
Happy early Birthday. My wife's Bday is Feb 5. My moms is Feb 28. Mine is in Dec. so you know what that means. Growing up when I got a birthday present people would say "that's for your birthday and Christmas". Really? Who does that to a kid? I'm not bitter or anything. Anyway, this is very generous of you. And if I win it can be for Christmas too. ;)
SWMBO's birthday is the 4th of July. She of course gets fireworks every year for her birthday. Mine isn't so entertaining. Except for my 16th . That day Mt St Helens blew her top to celebrate.
Thanks, Sarah.
Not an entry Sarah, just wanted to wish you a happy birthday. ;) Thanks for the entertaining stories.
My favorite birthday is the 24th of November, 2007, when the light of my life suddenly appeared in my life full of charm, attitude, and ready for fun. That someone is my Granddaughter, Mary. She's now a lively 8 year old, at times she has an almost adult gravity, and then she's ready to play with blocks, read books, and do her favorite thing, dance. Here's a couple of pictures, both of which I took and am very proud of, one when she was four and one when she turned 6 and it's her first day of kindergarten.
Since her birthday is so close to Thanksgiving, her birthday seems to last all week, a fact she rather enjoys, as do I:D
This is a lovely giveaway, and I very much appreciate it. Thank you.
