Happy Birthday to _jody744__ !

A sweet giveaway. I will play.

When I was younger, I lived and worked at Crested Butte ski resort in Colorado. Back in these days ( early 90s ) Snowboarding was not as accepted by the mainstream. We were still the rebels who were out of control.
Late in the season, when conditions were safe, the ski patrol would take a limited amount of people, to hike to the top of the mountain, and ski down. (12,170 ft.)
I finally talked them into letting me go. They had watched me for a couple of years on the black diamond slopes, and I played my birthday card.

After the hike up, and a rest to enjoy the view from the summit, I dropped over a cornice and into the deep powder for a great run to the bottom. I won't forget that day.

Happy Birthday Sarah. Very kind of you.

Scott

Blue!! I love the color blue :), so please count me in on this generous GAW.

Happy almost Birthday to you!

One of my most memorable birthdays was a year and a half ago. My wife and I have 2 biological daughters and we couldn't have anymore. So we decided that we had the resources and love in our hearts for another child so we decided to adopt. The adoption process was long but realitively painless. On my birthday 1 ½ years ago, we went to the "Registro Civil" (I'm not sure what that is in English!) and we picked up our new daughter's Birth Certificate with her new name and her mommy and daddy listed as her parents!!! What an awesome birthday! It was the last of the paperwork needed. What a joy she is. Oh, and as many adoption stories go, my wife is now 21 months pregnant!

My birthday is February the 5th. When I was young, around four or so my Dad would take me to a babysitter thru the week. We'd always stop at our local (small family owned) gas station on the way.

That particular morning he left me in the truck to listen to the radio while he grabbed our snacks for the day. Today was different though, the music stopped and the disc jockey said, "Happy Birthday to Matt out in the truck!" my little four year old mind exploded with joy! How did they know? I beamed from ear to ear that day til it hurt.

Years later I learnt that my Dad was inside calling the station. Still it's one of my favorite childhood memories along with that truck an Isuzu Pup, by the time my Dad sold it, it was in terrible shape. Still I cried for days, all the time and memories of riding along with my Dad.

Happy Birthday Very Soon Sarah:thumbup:

Not an entry thank you, I don't own any Blue knives....but if it were Green...:D

"Lavender's blue, dilly dilly, lavender's green.
When I am King, dilly dilly, you shall be Queen"

Thanks, Will

It's a great giveaway. Please include me. my birthday tale is quite recent, but it is not about my birthday. Almost every year, finances permitting, for her birthday I have taken Conchita to our favorite sushi place, where I had taken her on our first date. This year, we learned that, soon after her birthday, the restaurant would close after twenty-five years. The owner wanted to retire, and he had received an offer for his building that permitted him to do so in style.

Of course, we had to go. It was our last chance. We waited until about a week before the doors would shut for the last time.

We were joined by a couple of our daughters, one of whom had worked for several years at a restaurant that closed a few years ago; based on their shared experience, she forged an immediate bond with our waitress. We had been drinking some fairly expensive sake. After pouring a round she said, 'I'll just leave the bottle here', and left to attend to other tables.

The upshot was a very jolly and well-lubricated dinner, followed by a cab ride home.

Well, happy almost birthday!
I don't have any particularly mentionable birthday memories, although I usually spend the day (or a day or two before) shopping with my Mom (craft stuff, thrifting...) and that's always a good time. Thought I'd share a couple of interesting knife-related moments with my daughter (she's almost 3):

One time we got a package that had a bunch of that packing paper in it, (the really long sheets) and I thought it would be fun to let her color on it, so I pulled out my knife to cut it. As I was cutting it, she ran off and got her toy kitchen knife, and proceeded to 'help' me cut it. (top knife in the picture). I thought that was pretty funny/cute.

Another time, she was playing, and brought me the bottom knife in the picture and said, 'that one's for you'. I guess she's noticed that her Mom likes knives.

I'm in.. I sure like the color of that blue camel bone. I don't really have any funny b-day stories so I scoured the internet for an owl cake picture and this is the best I could come up with lol

Edit: I found a better one.. first one's pretty funny so I left it...

I wanted to quote all these posts. I've been grinning and misty.

Great thread.... from a great ( most of the time... I quote, and grin)person.

I'm still looking for the most memorable one.

I'm in.
My Birthday is on the 4th of July. When I was a VERY young boy, my folks had me believing that all the Fireworks and Celebration was on behalf on MY Birthday! And I believed them. For a year or two.

Wow, this is great! Thanks, guys. :D

I've added this to my original post, but will say it again here:

Anyone who wants a chance at this knife (as indicated in the thread) is entered in the giveaway. When the time comes, I'll randomize and select the winner by username, not post #, with a total of One (1) Chance per member.

The point being: feel free to respond to one another (and the great anecdotes, and funny pictures, etc.) in this thread if you'd like to, without fear (or hope!) of interfering with your or another's chance at the knife. ;)

~ P.

Well I am a couple of days late ... not an entry. Just wanted to say thank you and wish you a belated happy birthday. (Same day as my mom's and she just celebrated her 89th on the 24th.)

Not t'all-- my birthday is 2/9, so you're right on time. :D

-- I started to go back through and multi-quote the lot o' you in order to more specifically respond to your offerings, but my first attempt ended up too much like a Romper Room Magic Mirror Scenario. Even more, I was afraid of missing someone.

I already wish I had a knife for each of you. Dang.

For now, please know that I am loving the responses in all their variety and content, will continue to read and enjoy them as they come, and greatly appreciate y'all's showing up to play. :)

Ohhh! Sounds like fun... :)

My friend brought her dog to a party and we were surprised to see that the cake had a striking resemblance to her dog!! :D

I have had many great birthday celebrations but none quite as memorable as October 15, 2014. I have 2 daughters, 1 was 3 and the other was 6 months old coming off a spinal surgery that "set her back" a few months so that she was essentially a very large new born. The 3 year old was in full blown tantrum mode because she wasn't getting near enough attention with a new baby and a major surgery in the mix...

So I sat her down and talked to her about how important it was to me that she behave while we went to my favorite Italian food joint and how proud she would make me if she could get through dinner without getting in trouble. All through dinner I could see her struggling. She would come over to me and hug me and ask me how she was doing. She wanted desperately to impress her father and it touched my heart to see her trying so hard. She made it through the entire dinner like a perfect angel and ate every single bite of her food and I was so proud of her and myself for making this great evening happen!

So I pick her up to carry her to the car and she immediately loses every single ounce of chicken Alfredo she ingested directly on me... Covered me from chin to belt buckle! Come to find out, she had been fighting a migraine all through dinner and didn't want to tell me because she didn't want to disappoint me. I've never been so sad and so proud and so disgusted at the same time! Since we were both covered in puke, she rode in my lap back to the house and fell asleep on me before we got there. I ended the night of my birthday bathing a 3 year old who is dosing off covered in puke with tears in my eyes.

Definitely one I won't be forgetting any time soon! My daughter and I got a lot closer that evening... She's my shadow as soon as I walk in the door from work until I put her to bed.

Oh... This year I decided we would go bowling... I get more satisfaction out of seeing her have fun than eating Italian food anyway... And I don't think I can ever eat there again after that smell!

Awwww! :) What a great story and photo

^^^^^^^^^

I agree with Jack, great story and photo!.........jfowl31, Those are the moments you and your Daughter will always talk about.
There was a similar one for me and my Daughter that involved her beautiful white comforter for her bed, a fence, and a hose in the wee hours of the morning. She's 26 years old now and we still talk about it.:)

Not an entry, but Happy early birthday P!!!:D:D

Happy Birthday in advance P. My birthday is Sept. 12th. My father told me it's better to give than receive on your birthday. Thanks for the GAW.

My favorite birthday would have to be bowling with my friends when I was very young. I had a few of my friends with me. I still remember that. Happy Birthday.

I don't really like to make a big deal on my own birthday. I'm happy just going out to dinner with the wife. I do miss living closer to our family back in Arkansas, because my mom would always make chicken and dumplings for me on my birthday. :D

I do enjoy baking a cake for my wife on her birthdays, something I started doing after we moved away from home. This was the first cake I made for her in Arizona. I wanted to make a double layered cake, but we didn't have any round cake pans, so I sort of improvised. I also wasn't aware that I needed more than one thing of icing to make a layered cake, but at least it looked good from the front.
