Even though it's over, I would like to share a few birthday memories.
- I am a huge fan of museums, zoos and aquariums. (I understand that there's good and bad with the latter two.) For my 30th birthday, my wife surprised me with a weekend trip to Atlanta, GA to visit the Georgia Aquarium, and see their whale sharks!
- For an earlier birthday, my wife put together a surprise dinner at one of my favorite restaurants with some friends. Obviously being unaware of this, I went out with co-workers to play basketball. Eventually she let me in on the surprise and I got there, albeit very late. I felt pretty bad, but had a good time at dinner.
- The most memorable birthday, by far, was when my twins were born a few years ago. In the operating room was the first, and only so far, time I ever felt like I was going to faint. A nurse must've noticed my face was green, and got me a stool. Seeing those two little faces for the first time was the most amazing thing, a moment that I don't think will be surpassed in my life.

At the risk of indulgence, I am returning to this thread once more before it sinks into the annals.
I had hoped to respond more specifically to the variety of contributions, but this far down the swiftly moving stream I will simply say again, Thank you-- for the pictures and stories and camaraderie shared here in this thread, for birthday salutations both public and behind-the-scenes, and for certain blue gifties that showed up at my door(!):
Wouldn't you know, my birthday itself turned out to be... anticlimactic. A combination of momentary but extremely poorly-timed illness, bad weather that precluded dinner out even had I been able to enjoy it, and my celebrates-everything-with-me friend begging off due to concerns that I might be contagious(!), and all kiboshes were enacted on any semblance of "Special" on the day! I am glad I had no truly Not-To-Be-Missed Plans that had to be foregone due to circumstances (waves at Jake), but it was still a disappointment. Oh, well.
Y'all were, once again, a highlight.

The illness and the missed chance for revelry will only be remembered for so long, but those wonderful blue gifties will last a great deal longer than that. One day you will remember this as the blue knife birthday instead of the contagious cumpleaños.
