Happy Fourth All G-A

 Thanks Everyone,so far Chief, just awesome

I'm hoping John gets on the plane to St. Louis with sore arms from fighting Tarpon

Tomorrow we have a double header Eagle Ceremony

Two Eagles, that's awesome!

We had one of those when my son and our Scoutmaster's son made Eagle the same night, we had our Eagle Dinner together. Then he ceremonially turned over the Scoutmaster's patch to me to close out the evening (the one from my earlier photo).

One of the things that I'll never forget was when my son gave his Eagle Mentor pin to his Scoutmaster. I saw the look on his face, and it made me realize that if we make a difference in even one boy's life, to inspire them to love their country, love and care for the outdoors, and go on to be good citizens, every single second being involved in Scouting is worth it.

Congratulations to your Eagles Vince, from Troop 21 in Northeastern Pennsylvania

Vince,
thank you for the giveaway. Just like Andi (I guess), I felt that somehow it would be "wrong" to enter this particular giveaway, but I want to thank you anyway, just like I thank all you people who entered with nice stories and pictures.
No, I'm not American, nor I'd like to be; not because there's something wrong in being American, but because I'm happy with my roots and what I am, just like you guys are with yours. So, obviously, July 4th doesn't really mean much to me: I know what it is, but emotionally it has no effect on me. But...
Some years ago, I happened to be in the US in this particular day, by pure casualty. It was my first time in NYC. Now, of course I knew that it meant something there, but I have to be honest, I wasn't expecting to realize how much people over there really care about this day and how much it means to Americans.
I always thought that "special days" only have a reason to be if people "feel" them, and they're not just a day off work or a parade to watch on tv, or a couple of tv specials to watch at night. From what I saw that day, I understood that it really is a special day for you, and I really hope you lived it at the fullest. And I'm sure you did.

Vince,
The knife arrived today and I am still totally blown away by the neighborly and hospitable behavior on this Forum. Thank You and John for this huge showing of generosity. I will try to figure out how to post a picture of this beautiful slimline trapper that might possibly wind up being the "one" for me.

Thanks Again,
Grover Pope

Wow! Address sent, and thank you very much, I really appreciate it Vince, and thank you to your wife as well, not only for the GA but for serving as Scoutmaster. It isn't an easy job but seeing the guys having a good time, watching them learn things (sometimes by accident :D) is a terrific experience.

I'm hoping that our Troop has at least one more Eagle this year, he's got his project lined up, now he's actually got to do it!

They're great kids:

Vince's description and close-ups of the knife here.

Vince, thanks for the continued glimpses into Mr. Lloyd's philosophy and approach-- much appreciated.

We're still in awe of what just happened....

Seeing how happy he is with that knife really makes this one of my fav GA threads since becoming a member of this forum.

Good form! :)

Glad you liked it, it was fun getting all the Cubs and Scouts together :D
We've been growing the last few years and thankfully even getting some parents to volunteer, not an easy task!

We love Gettysburg, though haven't had a trip there for a couple years so we're overdue. We would have gone last Columbus Day weekend but couldn't get enough leaders due to other commitments, it happens. The older guys have all earned their Gettysburg patches but we have 2 patrols of younger Scouts who haven't been there yet. Plus when we go we have a re-enactor dressed in full uniform with us, my brother-in-law is with the 20th Maine group, and he's an Eagle out of our Troop. He's great with the Scouts and really knows the history, the guys love it!

Here's our crew the last time we went:

This Columbus Day we're going to Boston, the NEPA Council has a bi-annual "Traveling Camporee" for all Scouts in our two Districts where we go all over the place. Two years ago it was Pittsburgh, before that Williamsburg and Ottawa. Imagine 450+ Scouts and Scouters wandering around the Canadian capital, it was a hoot!

We've scheduled a Patrol Leaders' Council later this month to do planning for the upcoming year. I know Gettysburg will be one of the trips they'd like to do next year. We've stayed at a regular campground that our Scoutmaster found a number of years ago. I'll have to check into McMillan Woods, thanks for the tip!

Cheers,
Griff
