I am in my late 40s, and don't get into much contemporary music. My musical progression seemed to stop in my 20s, and I usually listen to classic rock and a splattering of music from different genres that was popular in the late 80s / early 90s. I say this as a disclaimer before I admit to LOVING "Girl Talk."
For those of you that don't know, Girl Talk is Gregg Michael Gillis, an American disc jockey specializing in mashups and digital sampling. It is hard to explain, but he takes very recognizable instrumental parts of one (or many songs) and digitally mixes them with lyrics from another song. I would have NEVER listened to this based on the description of this music, but have found it to be incredibly enjoyable. I was introduced to it by a pair of 20-something girls that I rock climb with, and now it is the standard soundtrack for when me and my middle aged friends hang out. Imagine Ozzy and Ludacris mixed together, or Elton and some recognizable pop rift from the 90's twisted together with some other instrumental background. It sounds nuts, but this guy pulls it off.
BTW, this stuff is NOT "g-rated." It has has some rap music that contains a lot of profanity. For me, this is not a big deal. However, I don't want to offend anyone that might feel differently.
Cheers.
